Greetings, Monday chatters! TONS of questions in the queue; will try to get through as many as possible -- might be a Lightning Hour as opposed to a normal late-chat Lightning Round. Onward!

Hey, Brent! I recently picked up Maikel Garcia, who should soon have 2B eligibility in my league. How excited should I be about this guy?
Brent Hershey
12:03
League size/makeup matters ... but in general, I think he's now leaning towards 12tm mixed relevance. Playing every day, speed over power currently but not a noodle bat. Not a good team context, but 3B seems to be his. Like it in the short term.

Hi Brent, happy Monday and thanks for your time as always. As a HQ subscriber, I know a lot of time was spent before the season looking at possible gainers and losers from the rules changes. About halfway thru the season now, what do you and others think about individual player winners and losers. Stolen base surprises? Pitch clock impacts on pitchers’ performances?
Brent Hershey
12:04
Hoping/trending to getting some of this analysis up on the site for subscribers in the next few weeks. Lots to process. Thanks for being a sub!

Hey Brent, Miguel Vargas is down to .202 and looks worse every day. I'm thinking Dodgers at some point have to trade for a 2B and send Vargas back down to the minors to get it together. How do you value him long-term?
Brent Hershey
12:05
Long-term, there's still value here ... but agree that short-term (IE ROS) that the ground is getting shaky. Talent is there to go back on a run (and as such, I think he's still got a long-term future) but I'm benching him in leagues where I have other options for now.

Happy Monday, Brent.  I am in an 18-team mixed 5x5 league and lagging behind in HR. 5 bench players and no minors/IL.  Donaldson has a $7 CDG, which is highest among FAs and good XPX (and is top 5 in Statcast Brl/PA based on limited BBE).  Do I wait out this painful stretch? What do you see ROS for PA and HR?
Brent Hershey
12:11
Seems like a lot of risk factors here - age, durability, a Yankees team under increasing pressure - that makes me dubious about counting on a rebound from JD. There's just not enough BBE to really take anything away yet (50 is the bare minimum I use; he's at 45) ... so without that, there are a lot of negatives here. Maybe you keep on the bench, but I'd be looking for upgrades (while realizing yours is a deep lg).

What kind of impact will Jordan Westburg have in Baltimore after his call up today?
Brent Hershey
12:13
Seeing him a bunch in the minors coming up; he's always struck me as someone who has the skills to produce. Positional flexibility helps in the short-term; feel like BAL is going to give him more priority than say Joey Ortiz. Solid regular production more than a star player, no one crazy great tool, but all-around contributor — but all depends on how the MLB transition goes. If I had those answers ....

16 team mixed with obp. Who to start in final roster spot this week: Gurriel (slumping) J Sanchez (away), J Lowe, O Miller, A Gimenez (showing life) or Grichuk (6 home). Thank you!
Brent Hershey
12:19
Rough when factoring in BHQ's weekly hitter ratings; most have tough weeks. Probably would take Grichuk at home.

Thanks for the chat!  9 team AL only 4X4 Please rate the following SP G Williams, JP France, Canning, Woo, Bradish, Detmers.  Looking for wins and ratios not strikeouts.  Please rank following OF Olivares, Moniak, Julks and Vierling.  You are the best!
Brent Hershey
12:24
Going to take this as rest-of-season (ROS):
SP: Detmers, Williams, Bradish, Canning, France, Woo. Tough to take Ks out of it for sure
OF: Vierling, Olivares, Julks, Moniak

Especially for AL keeper purposes and limiting to players who are already in AL farm systems and haven't already touched the majors, is Jordan Westburg the most likely looking player to go hard after, or can you think of others to wait for.
Brent Hershey
12:28
Will always be others, possibly including O's like Cowser and Kjerstad. But Westburg is up NOW, great mix of skills/opportunity. Given the time of the season, I might push a bit and go after.

Likelihood D’arnaud is traded?  What is his value ROS vs H Davis, B Naylor, Y Diaz, considering possible PT limits on D’arnaud / Diaz?
Brent Hershey
12:30
A trade would surprise me; I think ATL likes what they have here and the arrangement seems to have kept TDA healthy. Figuring he stays, I'd put ROS rank as Davis, TDA, Diaz, Naylor

Who has the highest ceiling for (i) 2023, and (ii) long-term: Casas, Nolan Jones, or Alek Thomas?
Brent Hershey
12:31
i. Jones
ii. Casas or Jones
I'm a big Thomas fan and am excited to see if the adjustments he made in AAA carry over, but the other two have louder skills for fantasy.

hi Brent, ROS NL Only 5x5, top 2? grisham, joe, madrigal, rojas, J. Davis (mia), Y guriel, Marcano. Thanks
Brent Hershey
12:34
A fellow BHQ staffer pointed me to Grisham's stat cast page just yesterday ... I had no idea he was hitting the ball that hard this year. With that in mind, I'll take Trent, then Marcano. Just don't trust the roles (potential PT) of the others.

Brent!! Oscar Colas is heating up in the minors. When he gets his 2nd chance (likely soon), how valuable due you think he might be at his ceiling?
Brent Hershey
12:35
Don't think there's a star ceiling here ... but on a CHW club who is playing out the string and moves a couple of vets at the deadline, opening up a spot for Oscar? Think Colas could get a long leash under less pressure than early in the season. Could work.

12:36
As always, thank you! What are your thoughts on Sean Manaea? Is he roster worthy in a 10 team NL 5x5? Stripling?
Brent Hershey
12:36
Would be dubious of both in even in an NL-only. If I have to choose, will go Manaea -- but the inconsistency is tough to swallow.

AL pitcher question-I am in a 5 x 5 AL keeper league and have a surplus of pitching. Who would you recommend keeping based on salary and fantasy value. I am in 1st place and want to maintain my momentum. Who would you keep between Bryan Woo ($3), Matt Boyd ($9) Matt Brash ($3) and I have to on my bench but need to make a move soon on Gavin Williams ($5) Matt Manning ($2) and Jhony Brito ($7). I'm leaning on keeping Woo, Gavin Williams and Matt Manning-Would you agree?
Brent Hershey
12:40
Woo & Williams (law firm?) would be no-brainers for me. The third would be down to Manning v Brash (Brash if you feel you'd rather take a RP/Svs longshot at a reasonable price; Manning if you'd rather use that longshot on a young SP with prospect pedigree.)

12:41
Thanks Brent…..both Tellez and Grichuk have stopped producing hrs.I have both on my roster and seem to be losing ground in power categories. Is it time to cut one or both of them???
Brent Hershey
12:41
As always, depends on league context and replacement alternatives. Without that info, tough to make a helpful comment. In general, would probably not cut Grichuk in front of a full Coors week right now.
Greg
12:43
NL 5 x 5 keeper league and need a replacement SP for Ben Lively. These guys are currently free agents-Hayden Wesneski, James Taillon, Adam Wainwright, Alex Wood, Ross Stripling and David Peterson. I just need one thank you!
Brent Hershey
12:43
Probably Wesneski or Peterson, esp with the keeper aspect in play. Just hope for continued improvements / adjustments. Wood next; would not have interest in the remaining veteran trio
Ring the Bell
12:45
Is Josh Bell any better than this?
Brent Hershey
12:45
Probably not. And yes, it's frustrating.
Zoom Zoom
12:47
Is there any worry that Esteury Ruiz loses the leadoff spot or even PT down the road? More so worried about his dynasty value.
Brent Hershey
12:47
I don't see it in the short-term; the weekend 9th spot thing was perplexing. That team needs a positive narrative, and having him chase a SB title is SOMETHING. But dynasty value? I think it's year-to-year more than a building block.
Pretty Brash of you
12:48
Will Brash's hit% ever normalize or is there something the numbers aren't picking up? Same thing seemed to happen to Munoz last year then he took off in the second half
Brent Hershey
12:48
Will normalize at some point -- just realize that sometimes these things go for a whole year.

What's wrong with Kiriloff? So far no issues with the wrists, but the production is poor.
