Monday Greets, all! Getting into the thick of things, and if the weather in my neck of the woods (Northeast US) is an indication, it will be a soupy one this week. (Just realized I missed the chance to say ... sticky (AHEM!). ) Anyway, let's get to the questions ...

For this entire week through Sunday, which TWO would you roster: I. Happ (CHC, OF), Slater (SF, OF) or a potentially injured Ketel Marte in an NL-only 5x5?  The Giants apparently only face one lefty (Caleb Smith @ ARI).  If you had a chance to sub in Jankowski for one of them, would you?
Brent Hershey
12:07
From what we know now, sounds like a long shot that Marte gets meaningful (or any, really) AB this week. Think you need to go Happ/Slater, despite the matchups. There are some other doozies out there this week as far as MU, for sure. And yes, both of those over Jankowski.

Hey, Im in 12t h2h lg 6 cats with avg and obp. I have Soto and Conforto as my OF1 and 2. Last OF I rotate ONeill and Carlson. Think I should swap one of em for Nimmo? Hes expected back Tuesday. Btw it is mixed lg :)
Brent Hershey
12:09
Hear you on the OBP-ness of Nimmo, but no, I'd continue with the Cards duo rotation. One of the better schedules this week, too ... ARI, @COL. If Nimmo comes back and tears it up, then maybe reassess in a week.

Hi Brent. BBHQ subscriber in deep AL-only league. Another SP is hurt, and free agent pool is muck, so looking at alternatives. Strong middle relievers with vulture wins are available - Loaisiga, McHugh and Paul Sewald. 2 questions: 1) what's up with McHugh - stats look Karinchak-like? 2) who's best of those 3 to continue strong performance & potential for vulture wins?
Brent Hershey
12:15
Thanks for the sub! Sounds like a strategy from a column someone wrote a column back in April — though I didn't invent this, obv. Loaisiga/McHugh ahead of Sewald, purely on a team level (more opps for vulture wins). Loa been doing it longer, but McHugh's numbers and metrics a bit better. Plus, Rays. I'd slightly lean to McHugh, but either are a good play for what you're after.

Hi Thanks for this! What’s your take on Lars Nootbaar - besides the awesome name I mean
Brent Hershey
12:19
Until this year, a hit over power guy, but 5 HR in less than 100 AB in AAA either means he 1) got lucky; or 2) changed something that unlocked more pop. I'm interested -- esp since StL has these pop-up OFers seemingly every year -- but with Bader on the mend and showing some improvements with the stick, not sure was Lars fits alongside O'Neill and Carlson. Keep expectations modest for now.

Hi Brent. I just snagged Zac Gallen off the waiver wire in my keeper league (10 team, 5x5, QS instead of Wins). What are some reasonable ROS expectations for Gallen?
Brent Hershey
12:23
Hey Pete ... tough one here, b/c seems more susceptible to re-injury of that elbow at any point. The 3 starts back so far haven't inspired a ton of confidence; and given how they'll probably monitor him, I'd think the QS would be light the rest of the way. BUT .. will say that we have over 100 IP of 3.50ish ERA the rest of the way in our projection. Wouldn't expect tons better than that, though.

Do you know what's happened to me over the past month? Does it really boil down to MLB's enforcement of the sticky stuff?
Brent Hershey
12:27
I don't know, but your evasive answer to the question several weeks ago, along with the corresponding swoon, looks more suspicious by the day. You've gotten pounded by the HR ball in June for sure, maybe too much so ... but on the other hand, if your pitches are catching more of the plate for some reason ..... I'm not worried about you, but many of this will be monitoring the rest of the season, obviously.

Thoughts on Jordan Romano in Sv+Hld leagues for the rest of season? How would you rank him against the relievers I already have rostered: Ryan Tepera, Tyler Rogers, Scott Barlow, Jonathan Loaisiga, Tejay Antone and Collin McHugh.
Brent Hershey
12:31
At this point (and it can all change on a manager's whim, obviously), think I like Romano best out of this list. Moreso than any other pitcher here -- well, maybe except Rogers -- seems that if Romano is in the game, he's either in a hold or save situation. Especially in leagues that use Sv + .5 holds, his value is the best. Antone's injury scares me; Loaisiga more of a vulture wins guy than saves guy; McHugh likely more IP than some of these. But Romano the best if you're chasing Sv+H IMO.

5X5 H2H 12 team league. Rank ROS order of these SP who are available on the wire. McClanahan, Brubaker, Long, and Patrick Sandoval. Would you suggest anyone else I should consider checking out?
Brent Hershey
12:35
I'll just rank these four; since I don't have access to your wire.
#1. McClanahan: really encouraged by the length TAM has given him. W + K potential
#2. Sandoval: been a 'sleeper' HQ pick for a couple years, seems like he's finally realizing some of his upside
#3. Brubaker: really solid, but won't get Ks of the top two and lack of run support a tick against
#4. Long: Great surrounding team, but metrics don't see this holding up long-term. Least experienced of the 4. Don't really consider him a 12-team option yet.

Do you think Gerrit Cole will still be an ace ROS?
Brent Hershey

Even given my answer above; yes, I think he's more likely to figure it out than not. Track record here rules.

Hi Brent.  Thanks for doing this.  I am in a head to head to weekly points league, already decided to DeGrom (duh), Ray and DeSclafani.  Need to picK two out of these four for THE week: Nola, Lynn, Framber Valdez or a two start Kenta Maeda.  Would value your input.  Thank you!
Brent Hershey
12:43
Thanks for dropping by! Tough to know how to value Maeda's 1-start week. Our SP ranks def have Nola out in front; Lynn and Framber both very strong with a slight edge to Lynn. Maeda's 2 starts both far behind that trio; my hunch is that those two won't be as good as either Lynn or Framber's 1. So I'd go Nola and Lynn (@MIN), probably, though Framber (@CLE) justifiable. Good luck!

Hi Brent,

Within a weekly points league (where HR and RBI key), does have Blackmon have staying power in the second half (I rank my OF as Rosario > Marte > Adolis >> Blackmon) and (ii) what do you think of Torrens ROS? Can he stick with regular PT given that Murphy may come around at some point?
Bonus question: any of these a legit saves speculation: Bass, Brach or Chatwood (my order)?
Brent Hershey
12:55
Wow, Blackmon is interesting. Nearly best contact rate and best walk rate (by far) of his career -- but hitting 51% of batted balls into the ground (has been ~40% in his career); and LD% way down. MAYBE that's just aging (he's 35), but that's a huge swing. Without looking further, I'd say it's more likely he reverts to career-ish #s in those things, and so power would get a 2H tick. Def worth another look, though.
I've always liked Torrens (sometimes too much for my own good). Think he has the talent to stick w/ regular PT and provide non-hurting BA and decent power numbers. Would prefer him over Murphy at this point.
BONUS: Brach/Chatwood just so many walks in their histories to trust at this point; not a huge Bass guy, and always dicey to speculate on a trade. I guess that means my answer is "no" ... although if you have to pick one, I guess I go Brach, since he's getting a few chances now. But none of these guys seem stash-worthy to me at this point in time.

Hi Brent - I have solid pitching, but am in need of some offense in my H2H points league. I'm trying to package Brandon Crawford with a starter, but I'm not sure who I can most reasonably part with. I have Kershaw, Darvish, Lynn, Pablo Lopez, Hendricks, Heaney, Alex Wood, Cobb and Brady Singer. Highly unlikely I'd move Kershaw or Darvish -- and I'm not sure how much value Heaney, Wood, Cobb and Brady have at the moment -- but what are your thoughts on the rest? Thanks, as always for any feedback.
Brent Hershey
12:58
Out of Lynn/Lopez/Hendricks, I'd most want to keep Lopez if all things equal. They won't be, of course ... so I'd make some different offers and/or start some talks to see which of those three plus Crawford would get you the best upgrade. Then, take the best offer. With that type of depth, you should be able to withstand it. Totally agree that I wouldn't move Kersh/Darvish, and Heaney/Brady especially could be fine in end of rotation guys for you. Good luck!

Hey Brett - Any slow starters who you expect to get back to normal in the 2nd half?  I'm thinking guys like Lindor, Blackmon, (dare I say) Hiura, etc?
Brent Hershey
1:01
Given how likely low his price will be, I think Hiura's not a bad play. I mean I wouldn't wait on him long (esp if you can't stash him on the bench), but your potential ROI could be highest on a player like this who has shown some skill in the past. Blackmon we discussed above; I'm interested as there are still useful skills there. And yes, Lindor probably the best bet for some sort of rebound, though I don't think we're talking mid-30s-pace HR power. Young, tons of skills left, etc.
