Happy Monday! Tons of Qs in the Q; gonna try to keep answers short(er) and get to as many as possible. Go!

I have a good NL-only 5x5 pitching staff, with 4 SP typically seen as team aces before the season, plus Mitch Keller. I also have good relievers, and excellent ERA/WHIP overall, but could improve in both W and Ks.
My other SP is Megill (NYM), who could help in those two categories. But I can stash him on my bench when needed, since our league allows daily transactions and I have room on my bench.
What should my strategy be? Lately I have streamed Megill, playing him at home, and benched in bad road matchups to avoid ERA/WHIP damage. Is that the right strategy?
Or should I just drop him and get another decent reliever? (Obviously, trading him would be optimal, but no takers).
Brent Hershey
12:03
Yep, trust your instincts there; streaming Megill at home with that much depth sounds solid. Enjoy your good problem, lol!

Hi Brent, I felt pretty good coming into the season with a group of five elite (if mostly expensive keepers): Trea Turner, Jose Ramírez, Mookie Betts, Sandy Alcantara, and Dylan Cease. All but Betts have been disappointing thus far, with the pitchers (especially Alcantara) having a particularly negative influence on stats, and occasionally altering matchup outcomes. What do you expect for the four poor performers ROS? Ours is a deep, H2H keeper league with 16 teams. Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:04
Feel better about the hitters rebounding than I do the two pitchers. I'd probably be matchup-dependent on Sandy/Cease right now if you have other options.

Hi Brent, NL Only 5x5, please rate ROS:1. hitters- Luken Baker,  Emanuel Rivera,Singleton, Marcano.  2. Pitchers- Lawrence, AJSmith- Shawver, NAnderson. Thanks
Brent Hershey

  1. Marcano, Rivera (esp if he continues to find time vRHP as he did over the weekend) <<gap>> Singleton, Baker
  2. Smith-Shawver, Lawrence, Anderson

Thank you Brent for all your help and all your hard work at BBHQ of which I am glad to be a subscriber. 12 TM, Roto Keeper, 6x6 with BB/HLDS. I have G.Cole S.Alcantara, B.Woodruff, S.McClanahan, T.McKenzie, D.Cease, T.Bradley, Z.Eflin, L.Varland, and Bryce Miller as my SP. Currently in 9th and looking to try to move G.Cole for some help on the offensive side. My 1B are Mountcastle and Torkelson and my 3B is Jung and these positions seem to be weaker so any thoughts on possible upgrades at these positions as I am looking to the future? I know that this was long but trying to make the best decisions possible. BIG THANK YOU BRENT!!!!!!!
Brent Hershey
12:08
Thanks for the sub! Looking to the future, would not be looking to replace Jung, and might be the same with Torkelson. Don't have ideas on upgrades without an available list. Good luck!

Love your insights.  A couple quick hits:

With A. Duvall due back this week, how do you see his ABs in BOS for ROS?

Should Bryce Miller owners be worried?

Are CLE ever going to give G. Williams a chance?  What will they do with C. Morris as he returns to health?
Brent Hershey
12:10
  • Think there's a decent chance Duvall finds significant lineup time
  • Possibly ... Easy to forget this is par for the course for many many rookie hurlers
  • Yes on G Williams, but might be later this season
  • A bullpen piece given all their other options.

As always, thanks for this! NL 10 team 5x5 - I have Bellinger due up soon. I have DeLaCruz rumored to come up soon. I have guys like L Baker, Amaya, JohnyDeLuca all on the waiver wire ready to be FAABd. I can safely lose Odor. I am holding (should I be?)M Harris  and I have the suddenly interesting Emmanuel Rivera. Do I dump any of my current hitters and get one of the FA guys?
Brent Hershey
12:12
I'd be free to move on from Odor, but otherwise none of that trio move the needle for me compared to Harris (yes, I'd hold for now) and the others.

4x4 AL only keeper league ROS JDuran vs EDuran, CHolmes vs M King.and does Yainer Diz take over for Abreu or Madonado.as always thank you for all you help!
Brent Hershey
12:14
JDuran / Holmes / No, but that's not because I don't like Diaz ... just feels like DustyB is unlikely to promote a kid like that over those two "proven" vets.

Hi Brent, Any hope for a Syndergaard resurgence or have we seen the last of Thor?
Brent Hershey
12:15
Not someone I'm betting on right now, esp if the other LA kids get and/or stay healthy.

Is Jorge Lopez toast? Been using him in SV+HD league but it's getting hard to hold (pun intended). Alternatives would be Steven Wilson or Scott McGough.
Brent Hershey
12:16
Been rough, but yes I'd move on. Generally don't wait too long for holds guys; feel like you can find those with some research. Those two names seem like good replacements.

Hi Brent,  Thanks as always for these chats.  For those of us in really deep leagues, what is your outlook for Donaldson and J. Abreu ROS?  And what do you think of Reese Olson prospects ROS (terrible FpK%)?
Brent Hershey
12:19
Not a huge Donaldson fan in a vacuum, but feel like he's got a better ROS outlook than Abreu right now -- though, relevant to a few questions ago, HOU is going to just. keep. running. him. out. there.
I'm semi-interested in Olson. Early on here, you'll likely have to live with some walks, but K% history is quite good and he's the type of guy who DET could give some run to.

12:21
Thoughts on Machado ROS? Does the early struggles + fracture in his hand worry you he might underperform this year? Would you take 80 cents on the dollar? 90?
Brent Hershey
12:21
Big picture, yes, his numbers will be worse in 2023 than 2022. But ROS, feel like he's a bounce back candidate. Would not be looking to move him right now. They've just about all underperformed, but still feels like the SD offense could click at any time, which you'll want to be there for.

12:23
Please remind me, why am I holding on to Michael Harris II?  Thanks
Brent Hershey
12:23
Raw power/speed combos were once hard to find. He's in a great surrounding lineup so even in a 'down' year he should have okay counting stats. If you're in a deep NL-only where ABs matter, his defense is going to keep him in the lineup every day.
Again, not saying you should or shouldn't hang on, but those are the reasons you might.

What is happening to me? Am I done?
Brent Hershey
12:26
Your fastball variations are seemingly not as effective, and there's a lack of an out-pitch secondary, so you might be. Sorry 'bout that.
Bob
12:28
What do you think of Kyle Bradish ROS?
Brent Hershey
12:28
Still intrigued b/c skills decent and holding steady. Like the late-season changes he made last year. Still a matchup play, but if he's able to continue to adjust/tweak, there could be another level. But will need to continue to prove it as we go along. Mid-rotation quality is a possibility.
Bob
12:29
Would you consider dropping Michael Harris for Suwinski?
Brent Hershey
12:29
Probably not, but if HRs were the main thing you were seeking, it's worth considering.
Rocky
12:30
There was fear about Sandy Alcantara not being able to follow up last years' performance given the shift rules and outperforming metrics... but should we be concerned about him going forward in keeper leagues?
Brent Hershey
12:30
I don't think so in a keeper context -- as long as you don't have Cy Young Award expectations as your baseline. No, he's not as bad as this, and has a solid career ahead of him. But 2022 could well be his peak season, for instance.
Kris Olson
12:34
Jorge Lopez is who we thought he was. I was pretty harsh in the 2022 Baseball Forecaster, only to see him go out and become a competent closer for a half-season. Good on the Orioles for cashing in that equity when they could.
Brent Hershey
12:34
This is fair. I know I misread Lopez's role coming into 2023, based on my lack of confidence that the Twins would do the right thing and just hitch their saves wagon to Duran. They've done that, and the lack of saves opps for Lopez (which from a roto perspective help to paper over his other shortcoming) severely cut into his value.

Is Soroka is rusty or broken?
Brent Hershey
12:36
Rusty is my guess. I mean, it's been several years. But also don't inflate expectations (common theme here from me today). I don't consider him a top-of-rotation type.

12:39
If B. Lowe and Franco are placed on IL, does Mead get called up for reinforcement or do you see another plan?
Brent Hershey
12:39
Won't be Mead ... he's been out the past month or so with a wrist injury. I'm confident there will be another plan; given it's the Rays I'm less sure that I know what that is. Might include Brujan back to play some IF, and/or shore up PT for some of their other moving parts (Walls, Parades, etc).

Hi Brent,  L-O-V-E this segment!  I'm in a standard 5x5, 10 team league.  During the draft, 2 teams drafted 16 closers between them.  I was left with platooning Holmes/King, nabbed J. Adams last month, and traded for W. Smith. Currently in dead last in SV category.  I'm watching closer reports like a hawk.  The league is very aggressive with picking up anyone who gets a couple of recent saves.  Any advice on improving my situation/strategy?     Also, thoughts on AJ Smith-Shawver?  Thank you,
