I haven't seen any news about it in all the reporting on the CBA negotiations, but is there a chance that pitchers get some kind of approved "sticky stuff" from the league or are pitchers SOL?
Kevin Goldstein
12:33
Some kind of pre-tacked ball is likely.
Keefths
12:33
Is prospect week going to happen next week ?
Kevin Goldstein
12:33
Yup.
Justin
12:33
Are the Blue Jays allowed to do more work in Cuba than the non-Canadian teams?
Kevin Goldstein
12:34
No, they are not. It's specifically in the rules.
Erik
12:34
When you worked for the Astros, if I gave you a Sporcle quiz of every player in the team's organization, how well do you think you'd do? Could you rattle off every org filler reliever in the low minors?
Kevin Goldstein
12:34
I would crush it.
Felix
12:34
which two mlb players would be most effective as sumo wrestlers?
Kevin Goldstein
12:34
Dan Vogelbach . . . . Matt Adams?
Matt
12:35
I'm curious what has changed that has you less optimistic than you were in past weeks about when the season will start.  From an outsider's perspective, the news seems pretty much the same and I certainly didn't expect we'd have a deal yet.
Kevin Goldstein
12:35
I didn't either, but I expected more progress by now.

12:35
Did you find the Jonathan that was in the chat last week?
Kevin Goldstein
12:35
I did! And his contact info was passed on to the team that asked about him.

12:35
Will scouts be allowed to attend minor league spring training if the lockout is still ongoing?
Kevin Goldstein
12:35
Yes.
Armchair Scout
12:35
That’s neat about Astros connection in Cuba. Did that play a factor in acquiring Yordan from Dodgers?
Kevin Goldstein
12:36
Not in that case, no. We had seen him in workouts and really liked him.

I've seen some of your house hunting adventures on the Twitter.  Is the Rockford are on your radar?  Its a great place to live, just don't visit.
Kevin Goldstein
12:38
Certainly affordable, but not in the area we are looking right now. We're going very country right now. We like the thought of land and no close neighbors.
Erik
12:38
What stats would you look at to determine whether a pitcher who's significantly outperformed his ERA estimators for a couple years is likely to do so next season?
Kevin Goldstein
12:38
Swing and miss rates both in and out of the zone.

12:39
How will the logistics work at the end of the lockout? Will there be enough time between the announcement of a deal and the actual ratification a couple days later for MLB to say everything's open upon ratification and the Rule 5 draft is tomorrow?
Kevin Goldstein
12:40
FO people I've talked to think they will get somewhere in the neighborhood of seven days from the joint presser of an agreement and starting spring training.

are you a max EV or avg EV guy? Or neither?
Kevin Goldstein
12:40
Something in between. I'm not an avg EV guy at all. I kind of like looking at top 10% of EV because that adds a factor of how often the player gets to the big EVs.

12:41
How much could we plausibly expect front office evaluations to differ from public numbers? E.g., Renfroe projects for about 1 WAR more than Jackie Bradley Jr. next season, according to public projections. Is it conceivable that the Red Sox simply value JBJ more than Renfroe straight up (without taking salary or the prospects traded in that deal into account)?
Kevin Goldstein
12:41
Yes, it's possible. I don't have knowledge of this particular situation, but it's certainly possible.
John
12:41
Will there be a 2023 MLB season or will it be locked out as well?
Kevin Goldstein
12:42
There's going to be a 2022 season, so that guarantees a 2023 as the CBA will likely be three years.
Mitch
12:42
Since I'm guessing I'm not the only one.... What is a UPC?
Kevin Goldstein
12:42
Uniform player contract.

Hi Kevin, I'm a more recent out-of-market follower with minute understanding of the development of modern baseball. Which 21st century baseball innovations have had the greatest influences on how we see the game collectively?
Kevin Goldstein
12:42
I think it's unquestionably statcast-type data.
Frank Thomas the Tank Engine
12:43
Who is under more pressure right now -- the team personnel in charge of getting spring training off the ground in a matter of days once the lockout ends or the front office personnel that have to sign free agents, make trades, and finalize the 25-man roster in a matter of weeks?
Kevin Goldstein
12:43
Yes.
Jason
12:43
Have you seen Liberatore pitch? Is he a high floor/low ceiling type guy or is there frontline potential in his game?
Kevin Goldstein
12:43
More the former.
Analytics
12:44
Of the major sports, which has advanced analytics the most in your opinion and why?
Kevin Goldstein
12:44
I think it's baseball, in many ways because of the individualistic aspect of the sport.
