Yes. Today's umpire is definitely part of the advancing.

Thoughts on best/worst case scenario for Forrest Whitley post TJ?
Kevin Goldstein
12:53
Best is a good starting pitcher, worst is zero MLB innings. His range of potential outcomes is enormous.

Thoughts on Kyle Bradish? The Orioles have really been hyping him since the alternate site started last year, and he's been dominant in his few starts this year.
Kevin Goldstein
12:55
The stuff is really good, and if he hones the command he could be a valuable starting pitcher.

If you're in the Blue Jays front office, what's on the list of things you need to see from Alek Manoah before you begin to have serious discussions about calling him up?
Kevin Goldstein
12:56
Nothing obvious. I'd give him a look at some point.
Jacques Pederson
12:56
How well do internal prospect rankings line up with public lists? I assume the Astros had their own rankings for other teams.
Kevin Goldstein
12:56
Everyone has their own rankings, and they tend to wildly differ from public lists.
James

Do you think Tatis should keep the two handed follow through after his eventual surgery? Looks really good with it.
Kevin Goldstein
12:57
He's Fernando Tatis. Just let him do whatever he wants.

Can we get excited about Chris Gittens yet ?
Kevin Goldstein
12:59
No more or less than you were before.
Chris
12:59
Who are some failed prospects that you still believe in? Guys who if traded you'd be excited
Kevin Goldstein
12:59
Nick Pivetta was my answer for that question forever and then he got traded. I need a new one....

Isaiah Kiner-Falefa: Discuss.
Kevin Goldstein
1:00
He's exceeded all expectations and he's fun to watch. He's not a star, but he's a real player.

How accurate are FanGraphs defensive values for outfielders compared to teams' metrics?
Kevin Goldstein
1:01
No more or less, but I still think defensive metrics have a long way to go.
Cole

Do all MiLB parks have statcast data that teams are able to access? If so, would that be something that may be available to the public one day?
Kevin Goldstein
1:02
Yes and yes.
Rex
1:02
What are your favorite pieces of baseball memorabilia you own?
Kevin Goldstein
1:03
I don't have a ton. I have some really great stuff from the 2017 title, but obviously, that's lost it's luster.
Joe
1:03
Why weren't you guys higher on Yermin Mercedes
Kevin Goldstein
1:03
Older guy, no position, no indication he'd hit THIS much. Find me the person who thought he could do this.

What can MLB do t make the game more appealing to younger audiences? I saw a study somewhere that said the average TV viewer is 58. Is that on MLB or the Tv broadcast?
Kevin Goldstein
1:04
A. Market their young stars. B. Quit having national broadcasts filled with old school guys complaining about baseball for three-plus hours. It's infuriating.

Thoughts on the crazy evan carter hype? You see him yourself yet?
Kevin Goldstein
1:05
You mean the guy hitting .222 at Low-A?
Tom
1:05
Do you think some scouts dont put enough stock into minor league numbers and put too much stock into "tools"
Kevin Goldstein
1:06
I'm sure some do, but in general no. Scouts are very good at what they do.
Michael

The NBA and Player's union have mutual interest in a mid season tournament to boost their "dog day" interest in the league. Do you think the MLB and MLBPA could conceivably have mutual interest in a similar idea for a mini league wide tournament in July?
Kevin Goldstein
1:07
Doubt it.

We scouting the stat line re: Carter? I assume you've heard the hype yourself....
Kevin Goldstein
1:07
I have. He's good, but I'm not ready to throw him into a top 100 or anything.

Have you heard any update on the Kristian Robinson situation?  Never saw how Corbin Carrol got hurt to require surgery.  Did he hurt the shoulder swinging a bat, running into a wall?
Kevin Goldstein
1:08
He hurt it hitting a home run of all things. Real freak-ish injury.
Robert
1:08
Did you guys think Patrick sandoval would become a major league starter?
Kevin Goldstein
1:08
Possible back-end type. Still feel that way.
Mitch

Could you explain the rationale behind a team extending a young player before he even plays in a MLB game (Kingery, E. White, etc.)? Is it just a sign that a team really LOVES the player? And did HOU have any conversations like this when you were there?
