I hope Meg and David don't read my chats . . . yeah, wife and I are on the first plane. I am planning on a sumo piece early next month with a baseball connection.

Ok, I gotta clear this space for the wonderful and wondrous Ben Clemens, so just a few more -- the question queue is DEEP.

Should White Sox fans still expect to see Crochet transition to a starting role? Or is he most likely going to be in the bullpen for the foreseeable future?
Kevin Goldstein
1:34
I would leave him in the pen. Not sure which direction they'll go.

I think Roth has been on every podcast series ever recorded
Kevin Goldstein
1:34
I don't see this as a problem.

What is the best way to get into the industry?
Kevin Goldstein

Demonstrate how you can help a team.

What’s the deal on Brady house’s hit? I’ve always assumed he was a below average hit/high strikeout guy, but now some are saying he’s plus hit?
Kevin Goldstein

I've heard 45 grades, and I've heard 60 grades. Some really believe in him.

Based on the mock, you and Eric don't see WSH dead-set on pitching at #11?
Kevin Goldstein
1:36
Dead set? No.

When you’re evaluating a pitcher who you don’t know anything about, what are the first stats you go to?
Kevin Goldstein
1:36
K rate, BB rate.

Moving forward, do you see a sizable niche in baseball media for, for lack of a better word, more literary/cultural coverage, or do you think things will keep trending towards stat analysis / beat reporting?
Kevin Goldstein

Can you give examples?

Do you think Vlad Jr. will keep up his current pace (MVP like numbers)?  Ultimately do you think he will be more like Miguel Cabrera career wise or Prince Fielder?
Kevin Goldstein
1:39
I hope I don't upset anyone by saying I think it's highly unlikely that he finishes with an 1100+ OPS, but I think he's here to stay as one of the best hitters in the game.

I just don't understand why teams wait until tge deadline to make deals.  Why do teams do this?  The Braves clearly need a big right handed bat and some starting pitching help.  Why not go out and try to get it now and let whoever you trade for have more time to make an impact?  I know you need for more teams to mail it in to sell and you want to see how your prospects look, but as a fan, I am thinking DO SOMETHING.  Sorry for venting.

Leverage for the sellers. Markets change and the deadline can create some desperation offers or at least more suitors.

Am I missing something about Leiter? He’s talked about as a pitchability guy, but walks a batter almost every other inning. I get there’s more to pitchability, but that seems like an important part. Also, in the few starts I’ve seen, he seems to get scattershot with his fastball fairly often. What do you think?
Kevin Goldstein

I think he commands the breakers much better than the fastball, which can be a bit of a spray, like you say. Good eyes, Lon.

OK folks. Thanks for all the great (and so many!) questions and I'll see you next week. Thanks for supporting FanGraphs (and if you don't you should dammit) and listening to Chin Music (and if you don't you should dammit).
