Judge
12:42
Did anyone notice Judge has genuinely cut his K rate significantly? He's never going to go 2017 again, but he's just sort of a solid 5 WAR type when he's on the field.
Kevin Goldstein
12:42
I noticed.

The Cubs seem to be tinkering a lot with guys with age and peripherals that aren't super enticing (like Ortega and Wisdom). How do you think they'll deal with the fact that besides Davis, most of their interesting farm guys are pretty young. More to the point, what's a realistic contention timeline
Kevin Goldstein
12:43
Next year might be REAL ugly.

Can I get a movie suggestion for tonight? Something a bit dark with some of that same type of humor mixed in, perhaps?
Kevin Goldstein
12:44
I finally saw Putney Swope last night and that fits the bill perfectly.

Would/can teams require vaccination of staff/players now that pfizer has full FDA approval?
Kevin Goldstein
12:44
They won't, but they absolutely should.

Do you see any FA signing this off season until there is a CBA agreement in place?
Kevin Goldstein
12:45
Could happen. The CBA expires on 12/1, and things will be frozen in terms of transactions once that happens.
Finnegan's Seam-Shifted Wake
12:45
Schwindel > Ortega > Wisdom in terms of potentially "real" bat?
Kevin Goldstein
12:45
I'd flip Wisdom and Ortega, but it's not like any of these dudes are stars.
Dave
12:46
What is the shrtest window you could imagine workings between signing the CBA and starting up the season?
Kevin Goldstein
12:47
For everything to go on-time, you'd need to have something done in February.
Okra
12:47
What are Fangraphs' plans if we get hit with a long work stopage?
Kevin Goldstein
12:47
Still plenty of baseball. Minors still happen, amateur still happens, international still happens, and then there are the labor issues themselves to address. Maybe I'll write about sumo as well!

12:47
We need thresholds to generate revenue to share with the smaller market teams.
Kevin Goldstein
12:47
"small" market teams still make plenty of money.
Cole
12:48
Which free agent SP would you be most interested in this winter: Ray, Gausman, Rodon, Stroman?
Kevin Goldstein
12:48
Gausman.
Roger
12:48
Performance basically equal, would most front offices give the opportunity to the higher draft pick (higher bonus)? Or is the saying about higher draft picks getting more chances inaccurate internally?
Kevin Goldstein
12:48
I think once you are in the pros, it's all merit based.
Dave
12:48
Do you think the pandemic makes it more or less likely we get a deal in a reasonable timeframe?
Kevin Goldstein
12:48
Neither.
PDX Yank

On a wild pitch, with a runner on 3rd - that scores. Does the batter get an RBI. Guess prob not, even though a better hitter might 'cause' it...
Kevin Goldstein
12:50
Nope, no RBI there.
Stros
12:50
Assuming he is considered healthy, what kind of deal do you expect Verlander to get this offseason?
Kevin Goldstein
12:50
Some kind of one-year make good deal.
Roger.-
12:50
Thoughts on Logan Webb?
Kevin Goldstein
12:50
How about it? Good lesson that command can be as important as stuff.
Mick
12:51
Percentages on a lockout/work stoppage?
Kevin Goldstein
12:51
Chances of the CBA expiring: 98.456123%; Chances of an actual work stoppage: 51.34194%
Joseph
12:51
Re Logan Webb: How would you grade his command right now?
Kevin Goldstein
12:51
70?
JD
12:52
Is 3yr 45m too steep for Canha with his current slump factored in?
Kevin Goldstein
12:52
That feels exceptionally steep.

SumoGraphs. Make it happen!

KG, a number of years ago, someone (Scott Boras?) noted that between revenue sharing, tv deals, etc, each team - even the poorest teams - began the season with ~$80-100 million. Was that accurate an accurate statement? And what is the current figure?
Kevin Goldstein
12:53
We don't know the current figure because the books are not open. It's an estimate, and not a bad one. The bigger issue in 2022 is all of the money teams are making in things they can keep off the pure baseball profit and loss statement, especially real estate.
