Looks like Julio Teheran wasn't a FA yet when you made your contract prediction post. Unless he was but wasn't in the top 50? Any idea on a contract prediction? Love to see the M's snag him to work into the re-building rotation.

he was 51-65 area, we projected him to become an FA
like 1x6 with incentives, maybe an option
could see someone going up to about 10, but the bulk of SP out there should keep his market low and him probably waiting into the new year

In light of the Cardinals hacking felonies, the Astros sign-stealing, and the Braves and Red Sox international infractions, are we just pretending that the Dodgers didn't outright violate international laws by participating in human trafficking?  Why aren't they being penalized?
AvatarKiley McDaniel
1:31
it sounds like that investigation is ongoing by the DOJ and I'm guessing MLB will act when that's wrapped up?
Joe
1:32
What can you tell us about Matt Blake? Ever meet him before?
AvatarKiley McDaniel
1:32
I haven't, but everyone who has seems to be raving
Quentin
1:33
Asked a genuine question looking for an opinion and got a douchey response. Thanks
AvatarKiley McDaniel
1:33
it was like very direct, so maybe don't be however it is that you are
Braves
1:33
Are the Braves still active in the international market, despite the sanctions?
AvatarKiley McDaniel
1:33
sounds like yes

Since it was reported that the Astros don't tell their staff members when they've been asked about interviewing them, do you think that played a role in some of their higher-profile departures or are the people I would have heard of the types that they would have told?
AvatarKiley McDaniel
1:34
i mean the people that have left have had very few good things to say and it's not just about that sort of thing, since we don't know about every time it has/is alleged to have happened

So for Boddy specifically, do you think teams will be hesitant to let their players go to Driveline now? It seems like if you've got a guy training with a member of the Reds FO, it would be a lot harder to trade with the Reds out of concern they know more than you do.
AvatarKiley McDaniel
1:34
The players often drive that decision, since they can just go on their own anyway
Joe
1:38
Is stripping an Astros title realistic? Sounds a bit too much like the NCAA, but knowing what pitch is coming is pretty significant.
AvatarKiley McDaniel
1:38
I mean I can't say that's impossible, but it seems very unlikely

I don't think everyone makes it to all your chats and/or reads all the questions.  If people are asking repetitive questions and it bothers you, why not just avoid responding to those?

if you want the answer and its already on the site, i tell you where it is. that's kinda standard around here.

I've seen multiple time you say the price for Kris Bryant should be something like a top 50 and top 100 prospect. Based on history the chances of either prospect even reaching the big leagues is low. The chance of them being an impact big leaguer extremely low whereas Kris Bryant is a near lock to be a 4-7 WAR player. I think your valuation is incredibly flawed in that it assumes their is an infinite supply of Kris Bryant's available that teams can just go out and pluck for 2 years - it completely ignores all the variables, namely supply and demand, but many others as well. Is this common thinking among FO's in baseball?
AvatarKiley McDaniel
1:44
I mean all of those factors are considered. This is how teams generally value players and my opinions are also based on what the market has set as the price, which is very directly set by this of analysis.

Every situation is unique, but 2 years of Bryant at huge arbitration prices in exchange for 12-14 years of elite prospects and some throw-in lottery tickets can't be way off.  The Blue Jays team president talks about years of control like he's Lex Luthor collecting all of the world's kryptonite.

Answer to David's question: It's how THEY want us to think and the worst part is it is working!

I ask two interesting questions and you respond with two thoughtful answers. How rude of you, BRO.

OK NOW I'M MAD ABOUT YOUR EVEN-HANDED ANALYSIS

1:46
I pretty much lost all respect for the Astros hitters. Fair?
AvatarKiley McDaniel
1:46
I mean even Fiers said some of them specifically asked to not get advance word
which I think is some pretty principled shit, in that situation

How widespread do you think electronic sign-stealing in MLB? 4-5 teams doing it? 1/3 of the league?
AvatarKiley McDaniel
1:48
I'd say single digits, around 5 or so have probably done it in some coordinated way in the last few years. And maybe more like 10-12 have tried something less coordinated that could get sanctioned if everyone knew everything

KILEY, DO YOU WANT TO FIGHT ME, BECAUSE IF SO, I WILL OFFER A FANCY COCKTAIL AND MAYBE SOME APPETIZERS IF YOU WANT TO SPLIT SOME INSTEAD OF THE FIGHT!!!
