The Rockies drafted Kumar Rocker in the 38th round, is there a purpose to this like showing that the organization has interest in him or would the pick have been better served on a long shot kid who could fill out the Rookie ball roster this fall?

Generally the room is made aware when all the picks that are needed for the rosters have been filled, then they figure out which tough signs make the most sense and pick those until they're out of picks. There's little to gain from taking a kid just to show you're interested. They know.
