Well, I can tell you I wouldn't be confrontational with reporters. An open approach, admitting that the options before him each had problems, and a full reckoning was likely impossible without cooperation from players that was not forthcoming, would help matters.

I'd report it to my owner first, and then to the league. I suppose there's a risk the owner says not to report, but I would feel obligated to do so, even at the cost of my job.
I also recognize that 1) most people wouldn't do that and 2) it is easy for me to say this when I am not actually in that position.
