Alright y'all, about to get started

Hi Everybody!
Let's go

Say you drafted Yamamoto and Musgrove this weekend, but first week rosters don't need to be set until this Thursday, with the South Korea games included as part of the first week. Would you bench both pitchers? They might both have two-start "weeks" to improve their numbers, but they were so bad I think the free pass to avoid their awful starts is the right way to go.
Nicklaus Gaut
11:01
I’m benching both - their first starts were so stupid bad that even if they twirl gems - definitely not a given - the final lines for the week are still going to be brutal. Worse-case scenario for either, fantasy-wise, is you miss out on a big-K game with a Win - I’m willing to risk it.
gbs42
11:01
Joey Meneses, Andrew McCutchen, or Dylan Carlson for my last hitter spot in a 5x5? Filling in for TJ Friedl for a few weeks.
Nicklaus Gaut
11:01
Joey Meneses - hits cleanup and has a solid floor that won’t kill you in any category (- SB) until Friedl is back.
Question Mark
11:01
Would it be smart to cut bait on McLain?
Nicklaus Gaut
11:02
You need to hold at least until we get some more definitive information/timeline. Right now we still just have “shoulder pain, getting 2nd opinion” from the team, which isn’t enough to make me abandon him until I am fairly confident he’s losing half the season or more. If it's just April/May then McLain is still looking at 400+ PA with 15/15 and 100+ R+RBI.
But to be fair, I’m not super optimistic - just pragmatic.

We had our AL only 12-team draft yesterday, and I ended up with JP France, the Houston pitcher. Everyone seems to hate him, and he's had a terrible spring. What's your take on him?
Nicklaus Gaut
11:02
Don’t get all the hate - I’ve taken him deep in a few draft-and-holds. His spring wasn’t that awful (3.1 IP 1 H, 1 ER, 5 K in his last game) but more importantly he’s got a rotation spot for one of baseball’s best teams. He’ll need a strikeout bump in order to level up for fantasy but right now he’s a solid “stream from your bench” kind of guy who should be in a position to pick up more wins than the average bear. In AL-only, that’s more than enough.
Tampa platoons
11:02
Will Richie Palacios get enough ABs in Tampa to move a needle? Any needle?
Nicklaus Gaut
11:03
Until J. Lowe comes back, playing time will be there…at least relative to Tampa Bay’s lineup shenanigans. He’s worth keeping an eye on given that and the quality of his spring but best-case he’s a strong-side platoon who you’ll need to come out of the gate firing.
change of scenery
11:03
When Miguel Andujar returns from the IL, will he get enough playing time to test whether the change in scenery works?
Nicklaus Gaut
11:04
Doubtful - I mean, we all know that Oakland's roster can turnover at any time but when Andujar comes back he’ll likely have a whole bunch of guys at a similar “bleh” level of talent to compete for PAs with - one cannot simply ignore the likes of Abraham Toro and Aledmys Diaz lol

Bowden Francis and Luis Gil have jobs for now. Do you think they keep them? Are they worth a shot in a deep league (14 team dynasty, 45 man rosters). Anyone other last minute job winners that are worth a look? Thanks Nicklaus, love the chats.
Nicklaus Gaut
11:07
I think both can keep them for a while given the dearth of good replacements that Toronto/NYY has and they’re both definitely worth a shot in deep dynasty. The upside on Francis is limited and might only be an occasional streamer but Gil has that sexy fantasy stank all over him right now after an excellent spring. And good springs equal good seasons, right?
And thank you!

Ok, now that it's official...12-team AL only, keeper (11 players) league: how much for Wyatt Langford, more or less?
Nicklaus Gaut
11:08
He’s a $20 player (top 40ish hitter) in a keeper-less vacuum but I suspect most of the hitters projected higher than him are being kept, so $30+ thereabouts? Probably more if it’s a 5 OF league but it'll also depend on what your keeper landscape looks like. But I'm more likely to go big in an -only league

12 team AL only 5x5. 25% inflation.  I have to throw back three of G Williams 5, Jhoan Duran 18, Tyler Wells 2, Kyle Bradish 7, Lou Varland 10, Jon Gray 10, M Brash 7.  And yes, I know a lot of these guys are on the IL. Thanks for the chat.

Gray, Wells, Brash

NL only 5x5 Roto 11 team keeper, keep up to 15, $200 salary cap. Who’s your last keeper, TJ Friedl, Will Benson, or Alek Thomas? All 3 priced at $5, can keep Benson 2 years, others 1.
Nicklaus Gaut
11:09
Friedl by a lot

NL only 5x5 Roto keeper, 11 teams,  keep up to 15, $200 auction day salary cap. Is Tylor Megill a keeper at $5?
Nicklaus Gaut
11:09
Nope

have you ever defensively bid on a player you don’t want but got stuck with him when your rivals go silent? I had 2 situations in my Saturday AL-only auction - but the worst one was where my bid of $3 on Verdugo was bested but the guy  then found out he didn’t an outfielder slot available. That left me holding the bag - even at a ridiculous low price.
Nicklaus Gaut
11:11
I have but usually, it’s at dollar levels that I’m not crushed if I’m left holding them. Price enforcing on guys you don’t like never seems to be worth it to me once you get in the double-digits.

I'm looking for a corner infielder and can choose between Brandon belt, who doesn't have a team, and Patrick Wisdom, who hits homers and does nothing else. Who do you recommend?
Nicklaus Gaut
11:11
Gotta go Wisdom until Belt actually gets a job.
11:12
Given those are your choices I don't know if these guys are available but E. Montero and Rowdy are both being taken at a similar ADP (700+) in NFBC and I'd rather have either.

In the NL, what rookie pitcher other than Paul Skenes do you see making a significant contribution to his big league cluB?
Nicklaus Gaut
11:14
No job yet but Connor Phillips gets me kind of hot and bothered.

fangraphs auction calculator is great for leagues other than 5x5 for drafting. Is there anything midseason that you can calculate players on waiver wire to see if they fit your league better than your current players? ie holds obp TB QS? PS you are amazing
Nicklaus Gaut
11:16
I use Rotowire - paid subscription but think it's absolutely worth it. Used to calculate them myself from week to week but it was just too much of a hassle.

11:17
Any value in picking up Canzone and Raley? To see if one plays more? Or will they platoon for the indefinite future
Nicklaus Gaut
11:18
I think it's platoon-city. Lots of rando mouths are going to eat at the bottom of Seattle's order and I don't think any of them will hit themselves into something significant.
Drafting Tonight!

Ignoring the rest of your roster, what round are you drafting these young OF; Carter, Walker, Chourio, Langford, Meadows?
