G'day!
Let's get started
Jay

Missed the playoffs and starting to think about keepers. Chris Sale dominated this year, but do you think holding onto a 35 year old starter who's only been healthy once in the last five years is too risky?
Nicklaus Gaut
11:01
I (successfully ; ) preached for a long time that Sale would never be this healthy again but even I have to tap out
11:02
Still a big risk but the rewards (and recent health record) are high enough to make him worth it

11 team NL only 5x5 Roto keeper league expanding to 12. Draft day salary cap $200. Can protect 12 from expansion draft. After obvious keepers, can protect 4 or 5 of the following: Brandon Pfaadt $5, Bobby Miller $6, Gavin Stone $5, Jeremiah Estrada $5, Miguel Amaya $4, Gavin Lux $12.50, Jake Cronenworth $8, Seiya Suzuki $13.50. Who would you keep?
Nicklaus Gaut
11:03
Suzuki, Stone, Cronenworth, Estrada
And Pfaadt if you're taking 5

Trying to get as many ABs as I can - are guys like Yepez & Grichuk only going to face lefties? Will s Hilliard ever get another AB or are HR- hitting outfielders a “must not play” for the Rockies?
Nicklaus Gaut
11:03
Grichuk is LHP only - has only started vs RHP twice since the ASB
11:04
I need an investigation into why Juan Yepez has been relegated to a bench role
It makes zero sense that Joey Gallo continues to play
That money is long sunk, Nats. Give it up
11:05
But it's hard to trust Yepez for regular ABs right now, regardless
11:06
And Hilliard is also a good investigation. The problem is that he doesn't have a place to play since the Rockies continue to ride out the Jordan Beck experiment.
But again, hard to trust him regular ABs even if he deserves them

Mitch Keller has been decent and has a bit less pressure being the Pirates #3 starter. Do you think he has any untapped upside or is he #3/4 type starter long term? What about Houck for Boston?
Nicklaus Gaut
11:08
Nah, I think he is what is - every time we dream of a higher ceiling for Keller, he quickly shows us the truth
Solid SP but a backend guy

Acuna’s AAA stats aren’t necessarily something to write home about. Do you think he makes the OD roster?
Nicklaus Gaut
11:10
I think the bar for him to do so will be very low and would bet he does
He's young, fast, and an Acuna. The Mets will be rooting hard

It seems it would be hard to trade Alcantara for true value during the offseason, do you think Miami looks to trade him at the deadline next year?
Nicklaus Gaut
11:12
I'm sure they'll look to trade him as soon as he pitches long enough to build value. But he's also under a super-friendly contract so I suspect the asking price will be steep

11:13
What do you think Dominguez does for the rest of the season?  I need SBs and I'm in an AL-only league so the waiver wire is thin.  Also curious if you think he's a starter in 2025...  Presumably yes if Soto goes elsewhere but what if he stays?
Nicklaus Gaut
11:14
I wouldn't expect more than a few bags but I'm not sure you'll find a better speed option on an AL-only wire
11:15
And I think he's a starter, independent of Soto
Reiding is fundamental
11:16
Detmers. Not a question, just a statement.
Nicklaus Gaut
11:16
Detmers is the perfect statement.
And the only thing neccessary

Hi Nick, Thanks for the chat as always! I’ve got a big push I need to make this week in ERA and WHIP in my 15 team NFBC. In my pitching spots the only must starts that I have at the moment are Chris Sale and Ranger Suarez (who could arguably be benched given a 2 step against MIL and NYM). Of the below pitchers and matchups, who would you pick to round out the remaining 7? Bowden Francis (@TEX) Andre Pallante (2 step vs PIT and CLE) Griffin Canning (vs CWS) Landon Knack (@MIA) Jacob Degrom (vs SEA) Rhett Lowder (vs PIT) Zach Littell (vs BOS) David Peterson (vs PHI) Eduardo Rodriguez (@COL) Reese Olson (rumored to be back vs KC) Kenny Jansen Carlos Estevez Wins and Saves are more nice to haves, mostly trying to bring down my ERA and WHIP to close out the season. Thanks!
Nicklaus Gaut

Francis, DeGrom, Jansen, Estevez, Knack, Littell, Peterson
And you're welcome!

Hard choices with my Keepers... Oneil Cruz worthy of a spot?
Nicklaus Gaut
11:21
Even I, a known-hater, would probably be hard-pressed to send him back
Sit/Start Beg/Fetch
11:22
Would you sit either of Bryce Miller vs. NYY (but at home, thankfully) or Hunter Brown @SD this week?
Nicklaus Gaut
11:22
I'm starting both
Last of the OFs
11:23
Varsho, Deluca, or Jordyn Adams to close the season? OBP league, but homers matter more. (I realize Varsho is the best player of the 3, but his shoulder bothers me/him.)
Nicklaus Gaut
11:24
No, the shoulder (and September performance) have me super worried. The trouble is the giant gap between him and the other two. I do like Deluca more than Adams but I'd probably still ride out Varsho.

Do the Nats have a legitimate shot at signing Soto?
