Not a question, just a thank you for an autograph roughly 20 years ago. You were my favorite player when you came up in the Sox system and 13-year old me was heartbroken you were traded. My mom drove me up to Montreal the next time the DBacks played there. We went when doors opened so I could try to get an autograph and right after you guys finished BP, I'm pretty sure you spotted me behind the DBacks dugout in my Sox shirt and hat (not sure if you saw it was your #29 shirt), you came over and signed my Shea Hillenbrand baseball card. It really meant a lot to me and to this day, my signed Shea Hillenbrand card on display in my home office. Was bummed you never got to play for the Red Sox again but always enjoyed following your career. Glad to hear you're in a good place now. Thank you, Shea

Hi Shea, Thanks for doing this. I was always a fan of yours and amazed by your story. I can't imagine your struggles. How common would you say the struggles you had are for baseball players?
Shea Hillenbrand
11:04
To be honest, The struggles are a lot greater than the fans think. Identity is the issue. We attach our identity to the game. I am determined to help current and retired players to find their voices.

I really like and respect you. I didn't before this chat. Thanks. What you are putting a window on is really, really important. I have been dealing with a suicidal cousin (who thankfully is coming out the other end much as you did). This is not for sharing ... but is to encourage you to have the fortitude to continue to tell your story
Shea Hillenbrand

You started liking me before I liked myself. So you have the upper hand. lol Thanks for sharing. Suicide is real

Any dominican teammates along the way? Which one was your favorite?
Shea Hillenbrand

I will always have a soft heart for Manny Ramirez. He is a big teddy bear that hates the spotlight. Doesn't want the attention on him.

Talk about completely misjudging a book by its cover. Shea you're more of a man to own this and step forward to help everyone and anyone around you. Never thought I'd leave an MLBTR Chat so inspired! Thanks for sharing!

Shea Hillenbrand, the Major League Baseball Player is just a character in my story. After looking in the mirror and completely hating what I saw, I made a commitment to myself to do whatever I had to do to design a new life outside of MLB player. I created momentum in my life and then paid attention to the language I was using when I talked to myself. You see, the most important conversation you will ever have in your life is the conversation with yourself. This conversation is the foundation of WHO YOU ARE. I am completely honored to have this opportunity in such an amazing group of baseball fans to OWN MY SHIT and share a bit of who I am to inspire EVERYONE here. It's not too late. You can design whatever life you desire.
