Hi Chad, thanks for chatting. A lot of great insight so far. When you got your signing bonus what was some of the first things you did to treat yourself?

my first purchase was a Black Yukon that I jacked up.  We called it the Hermanator!  I also bought my dad a truck that used for the next 20 years for work and our high school baseball team a new batting cage.

Chad, you came up through the Pirates chain with Aramis Ramirez and debuted when they had some good talent in Jason Kendall, Al Martin and Brian Giles. Who were your favorite teammates? Did any of those old Pirates serve as a mentor figure for you ? Thanks.

I loved Al Martin and would have loved for him to be "my mentor" if you will but he was traded or free agent and they didn't keep him. Giles was more quite, always naked in the clubhouse haha, Kendall was the serious well respected guy who was great to me but just different personality. My closets relationships were with Craig Wilson and Jack Wilson.

Thanks for doing this Chad.  How does scouting high school players differ from scouting college players?

Is this the Steve Blass?

Funny that Lloyd was that incessant on doing things his way, not that he was a world beater in his own right.

We have never actually had a conversations about that one day in the cage.  I must have made it a way bigger deal.  I still love the guy he was only trying to help but I surely wasn't going to do something he didn't like

Chad, thanks for doing this! How do you apply the skills you learned as a baseball player to your every day life?

Learning to manage your mind is the most important thing any of us can do.  All problems are thought problems.  I have learned a lot in the last 6 months about more who I am and what I am all about.  I've carried garbage with me for 20+ years and my wife said maybe you should get coaching on that.  I did and it changed my life!  I've learned to let go of the past and it's and have learned how to coach myself and work through my thoughts and emotions about everything in a more precise manner.  We all either react, resist, or avoid our emotions and I have learning how to process them more and actually sit with them.

When a guy has a rough year like Joey Gallo did in 2022, you have to assume a lot of his thoughts through the winter had to be aimed at a better 2023. What do you say to a guy like that going into spring training at this point?

I actually coached Joey or was not he staff I would say at Gorman here in Vegas his senior year.  Joey and I are very similar in the fact that we are very hard on ourselves internally.  Might not show it to the fans per say, but similar.  Of rouse he is way more talented! He is who he is.  Im sure he has tried changes and maybe a different approach but he was the same hitter in high school. Would hit a bomb 450 feet then swing and miss 3 times next at bat.  My advice to him it be himself, stop trying to please others, and focus on what and who you are and if you want to make an adjustment do it.
