I don't know about being dominant, but i didnt really pitch between 12-18. Through about 15 innings my sr year of hs. Told my college coach my freshman fall i could work out of bulpen if needed. Threw about 15 innings that year and then picked up some velo and was our closer next two years with some horrendous starts mixed in. I didn't deserve to be on ANYONE'S radar. Gene Kearns saw me on the right night by dumb luck and i caught his eye. I was learning the craft I was went in pro ball. That made me a good student without a lot of preconceptions of bad habits. But ultimately mightve been a curse by not having built up my soft tissue pitching through my formative years

What advice would you give to kids (age 9-12) who want to focus on pitching?
Brandon Beachy
11:14
Play every sport. Have fun. I'd encourage all parents to read Range by David Epstein.

Were there any players you didn't want to see in the batters box when you were on the mound?
Brandon Beachy
11:15
Yes. Carlos Ruiz and Raul Ibanez. Brandon Phillips probably too (3-5 off me with 3 HRs i think..oof)

Brandon - what advice would you give to someone who wants to start a franchise?
I don’t have a sports background like you. But I have been a

Do your work in the investigation process. And then the one piece of advice given to me that i relay to everyone. If you get into business relying on the franchisor to determine your success, you will fail. Guaranteed.

Hey Brandon! I'm a huge Braves fan from Linfield. Didn't you used to live in my neighborhood with Kimbrel and Miles Ethridge when you were getting called up to the majors for the first time?
Brandon Beachy
11:18
I did. Craig was already gone at that point. I was with Cory Gearrin in their basement until the minor league season ended!

How many kids? How old?
Brandon Beachy
11:18
I've got a very soon to be 6 year old daughter and a 3 1/2 year old son. They are the best!

Was Kris Medlen as cool as he seemed? Loved you guys in the  Atl rotation.
Brandon Beachy

Without a doubt. Loved playing with him.

What was the worst visiting clubhouse you were in as a player? Which one was the best?
Brandon Beachy
11:20
This has to be old Savanna stadium. Chicken wire lockers and it was a rush to showers after the game because you showered in dirty water up to your ankles if you werent in that first wave. Favorites clubhouse was wrigly

Brandon, loved watching you pitch.  Do you have a favorite teammate?
Brandon Beachy
11:22
Jonny Venters probably. Mike Minor, Craig Kimbrel, Freddie Freeman. Brock Stassi. Chris Heisey. Ryan Buchter to, forgot him earlier, one of my favs and also probably funniest.

I'm strategically thinking of putting some 5 Guys franchises directly next to Weight Watchers centers.  Is that genius?
Brandon Beachy
11:23
Haha I respect it

Hey Brandon!  I had you on my keeper fantasy team for ages and you are one of my favorite players ever. I never thought I’d get to tell you that.

It's an honor to hear that. Even after all these years someting like that doesn't compute.

What’s your favorite off field story (that you can share) during your time in the MLB?
Brandon Beachy
11:28
Off field but in stadium. Tommy Hanson showed Mike Minor and I a little Wrigley Field nuance. The visiting clubhouse is actually above the concourse (long walk). The stairs is (was now maybe) exposed to the concourse with tarps hanging down the sides. He took us into kitchen and got cups full of blueberries and raspberries. Took us out the stairways and pulled back the edge of the tarp. We played a game of trying to drop berries into peoples beers below. It was the most juvenile thing but also the most fun ever. No one ever expected it to come from above. The would alwasy spin around and look behind them. Nothing more gratifying that splashing one down!

Why is pitching so hard?  Few can do it well.  What’s the secret?  Repo
Brandon Beachy
11:32
Hitters are really good. The line between a good pitcher and not, is very thin. Good and great ones make mistakes ( a few less), but they have done enough to keep the hitter off just enough that they get away with more of those mistakes.

Can you speak to your journey of acceptance as such a high level athlete?  Thank you!
Brandon Beachy
11:33
Never really accepted that. By the time i started viewing myself as belonging, it was over. Def some imposter syndrome, still doesnt seem real to be honest.

I grew up a White Sox and Reds fan. Essentially, the anyone but Cubs package

Brandon, don't feel bad about the berry incident. You hit my beer cup with one of your blueberries, so after a sip, it gave me the inspiration to launch Blueberry Beer, Inc. It's doing great

This cannot be true, but on the chance it is I will gladly accept an inspiration spiff

Thanks for chatting today Brandon! Do you have a favorite punchout story?
Brandon Beachy
11:38
Of course. I got the true honor of playing against so many. Ichiro was up there for me. I struck him out on a CH and then next at bat i knew he knew it was coming. So i went the old "give him what he's looking for, but where he cant hit it" approach. Got way inside the CH and it ran well into RH batters box and he swung and missed.

How's your knuckleball?
Brandon Beachy
11:39
It's garbage and not for lack of trying. Spent a lot of time 2016 at Camelback Ranch poorly attempting while rehabbing.

Which home run allowed is your most memorable.
Brandon Beachy
11:44
Matt Kemp. He was on an all time terror at the time. Set him up and caught him look FB down in for a K. He was all over the umpire. Next at bat i did the same thing. Same exact pitch (it was a strike) and the umpire balled me. Tried to go CH away, hung it and he smoked it. At that moment on the mound i had the realization that i would never get mad at a hitter or lebron or anyone for whining about calls again. Because it worked. Umpires are people and can be influenced .          That and seeing Stanton hit one out of Dodger Stadium, not off me thouhg
Ive got to go. Thank you all. Really Enjoyed it.
