How would I get my name out there to play with an Atlantic league team?
Chuckie Fick
10:38
they have open tryouts usually. Send emails and don't stop
Jessie
10:38
Are you dating anyone? If so, are they big on baseball too?
Chuckie Fick
10:39
I have the most amazing and beautiful girlfriend. She knows nothing about baseball, and it's not an issue at all. We are able to focus on everything else in life.
Kurt
10:39
Do you have any rookie hazing stories?
Chuckie Fick
10:39
I plead the 5th here
Joe Davola
10:39
I know that many former players here have said they prefer rules staying the same. That said, what's a rule that you would like to see implemented in the future?
Chuckie Fick
10:40
KEEP EVERYTHING THE SAME FROM 10 YEARS AGO
Calvin
10:40
You're coaching amateurs now, but any desire to get into pro coaching? Or perhaps scouting? Some other field of the industry?
Chuckie Fick
10:41
I scouted for a year with the Tampa Bay Rays. I loved it, but the money is horrible and there is no job security. They have a really good thing going on over there. I never wanted to coach in the minors. Once I got done playing, I never wanted to ride the bus again
James

Funniest teammate you had?
Chuckie Fick
10:41
Scott Patterson or Casey Mulligan
Matty the Matador
10:41
What did you think of the CSUN program? Its good to see a Matador make it. I worry that is in spite of how the school treats the athletic department. What do you think?
Chuckie Fick
10:42
That school does a horrible job supporting the baseball team. It could be such a powerhouse and there is no investment there.
Kurt
10:42
Craziest thing you ate while playing abroad?
Chuckie Fick
10:43
I ate frog legs in Omaha
career minors

A lot of us guys never make it as far as you did, yet we still cling to our identity at baseball players, and even cling to hope that this year will be the year (in my case, age 31). Any advice on how to finally let go? Serious question.
Chuckie Fick
10:44
A lot of guys struggle with this. At some point you have to understand that it's just not in the cards. It's even harder to let go when you have tasted the big leagues. The money and feeling of it all is addicting, and you just want to keep chasing it. Your body and your results will eventually tell you that its time. If you aren't in affilliated ball and not throwing 100, let it go.

Did you play other sports as a kid or was it always all-baseball all the time? Do you think it benefits kids to play multiple sports?
Chuckie Fick
10:48
I played basketball and soccer. Along with surfing and skateboarding. The Cardinals instituted a no skateboard rule in spring training because of me in 2011
World Baseball Classic
10:48
Do you follow it? Are you excited for it? Who do you think has the best team?
Chuckie Fick
10:48
LOVE IT. I always feel the the DR team is the one to beat.
Calvin
10:48
Longest/worst bus ride you took??
Chuckie Fick
10:49
Riding the bus sucks, but the 6 AM flight with a 4 AM wake up call from Tacoma back to Memphis, get in at 3:30 PM and have to play at 7 PM that night is the WORST.

How vast is the difference between the spread at minor league games and in the Majors?
Chuckie Fick
10:49
Night and Day
Brian
10:49
Do players follow this site a lot?
Chuckie Fick
10:50
Yep. This sight has and always will be a huge following of current and former players.
Kurtwood
10:50
Are you still in touch with Jeff Luhnow? Do you think he was treated fairly?
Chuckie Fick
10:51
I am not. He was always very good to me and gave me my opportunities. I am forever grateful for it.
Alex
10:51
How bad can the living situation get in the minors? Were you ever one of those guys who crammed 5-6 teammates into a two-bedroom apartment to try to get by?
Chuckie Fick
10:52
I lived on an air mattress in the living room of an apartment several times.

Most NSFW story? You can censor names.
Chuckie Fick
10:53
Nothing too crazy. I didn't go out much because I was always barely hanging on by a thread to keep my job.
Jannis
10:53
Mickey Jannis chatted a few weeks ago and talked about throwing a knuckleball. Did you ever try one out?? It's a lost art!
Chuckie Fick
10:54
I literally cannot throw one.I don't know if it's my arm angle or wrist or what, but I cant throw a knuckleball or a spiral on a football.
Brody M
10:54
Thoughts on your time around Yadi?
Chuckie Fick
10:55
He's a surefire HOF'er and the game will miss him dearly. I threw my first big league camp bullpen to him, and after he told me "nasty shit", and the amount of confidence I got from that was huge.
Yadi
10:56
Any other catchers or coaches make a particularly big influence on you?
Chuckie Fick
10:57
Nick Derba who is now the head coach at the university of Maine. El Presidente Dennis Martinez, and Ace Adams. Doug Brocail and Brent Strom were great as well.
