Any takers for Melky Cabrera?
Steve Adams
3:41
Doubtful if he keeps hitting this poorly
Chris
3:41
Is Zimmer worth an add in fantasy?
Steve Adams
3:41
His upside is probably greater than whoever the crappiest guy on your roster is.
Dave Dombrowski
3:42
I have this big gaping hole at third base. What do you recommend that I do?
Steve Adams
3:43
Stop trying to trade for setup men in the offseason? I kid. (Sort of)

Moustakas is a perfectly reasonable rental target for them, and I'm sure they hope/believe they don't need a multi-year solution with Rafael Devers looming.
Joey Gallo
3:43
I wasn't referring to now, I meant in the future.
Steve Adams
3:44
Even still -- a sub-.200 average is going to mean an OBP in the low 300s at best. Add in the fact that he's not a great defender at third (thus either negative value from poor defense there or negative value from playing first base), and he's not going to beat out well-rounded guys and elite elite pitchers with just his home run totals.

Why on God's Green Earth would the Jays re-sign (albeit it a minor league deal) Salty??? He is completely useless
Steve Adams
3:45
Someone's got to catch in AAA, and he still has power. It's a minor league deal... I wouldn't get too worked up over it. Doesn't seem likely that he even surfaces in the Majors again this year.

which rebuilding team has best long term outlook right now and why?
Steve Adams
3:46
Phillies and Padres both have quickly improving farm systems and jack on the books in terms of long-term financial commitments.

3:47
How long until the Royal's start seriously considering restocking the farm? They aren't going to re-sign everyone, and would you keep Moose (my pick) or Hosmer? I'm figuring one of the 3, Cain, Moustakas or Hosmer. Cain's on the wrong side of 30, Hosmer is to up and down, while Moustakas also plays the tougher position. Have heard talk of them re-signing Escobar as well, not sure why.
Steve Adams
3:48
They should already be listening intently, as far as I'm concerned. Moose would be the best bet to keep in the long run, but I'd still trade him (and all of the other impending free agents, plus Herrera and if possible Soria) this summer to get as much young talent as possible.

If they move enough of those would-be free agents, they might not really need to go through any kind of prolonged rebuild.

How would you handle the outfield once Fowler and Piscotty come back? You definitely cannot send down Pham the way he is hitting!
Steve Adams
3:52
It's been 41 PAs for Pham, and exactly half the balls he's put into play have fallen for hits, while he's K'd in nearly a third of those 41 PAs. If he doesn't start making more contact, it may just sort itself out, because the BABIP will drop in a hurry.

That said, I don't think it's hard to make a case that the team is better with Pham on the bench than Matt Adams, who can't really find any playing time at 1B and clearly isn't suited for OF work.
Posey
3:52
Is there another batting title in my future?
Steve Adams
3:53
I might bet on Harper over Buster at this point, the way Bryce is swinging, but given Posey's start I'm sure he'll be in the mix, yeah.

3:54
How many awful trade proposals do you get on average?
Steve Adams
3:55
I'd say that one day I'll publish each one over the course of a chat, but then I'll get nothing but people making up bad trades and bombing me with them. It's a lot of pipe dreams and one-sided offers -- though sometimes proposals that seem silly actually happen!
Nick
3:55
Do you think the Bluejays should extend pillar?
Steve Adams
3:58
They already control him through his age-31 season, and I'd be a bit wary about guaranteeing huge money to a guy that derives a lot of value from defense and will be playing on that surface four more years.

If he's willing to do some kind of Jose Ramirez (5/26) or Odubel Herrera/Ender Inciarte (5/30) deal, sure... but he's a fair bit older than all of them at 28 already. And if you're Pillar's agent and see Kiermaier get $53MM, does taking $26-30MM sound good? Probably not.

Boom or bust: Rockies make the postseason.
Steve Adams
4:00
Hot start aside, I predict they fall short of the division. You can sell me on them as a Wild Card team though.

Kimbrel...so much for the decline huh?
Steve Adams
4:01
He said recently that he pitched through a finger injury he kept quiet all last season. Based on how he's pitched in 2017, there had to be something physically wrong last year... he's as good or better than ever.
Dalton Pompey
4:01
Am I ever going to have a shot in Toronto? Or do I need to go somewhere else?
Steve Adams
4:03
Well he's been out with concussion symptoms all year, so his lack of opportunity in 2017 can't be read too heavily into. Still, it seems like the org was already prepared to go with Ezequiel Carrera over him, which doesn't exactly scream confidence in Pompey. Hopefully he bounces back from the concussion stuff... if he does another org seems pretty realistic to me

OK, Yankees 1B is awful....what would it take to bring Freeman in? Torres, Frazier, Sheffield and Montgomery?
Steve Adams
4:05
John Coppolella literally said he'd cut off his right arm before trading Freddie Freeman last year, and Freeman has only gotten better since that statement. I wouldn't spend too much time thinking of Freeman trade offers.
Bogahts
4:05
Bogeys high avg...I'm ok with lack of power. Thoughts?
Steve Adams
4:07
The average is going to come down if he doesn't start putting the ball over the fence. Hitters just can't be expected to sustain a BABIP near .400. It's nice that he's striking out less than ever and still drawing a few walks, but the lack of power is a little weird considering he hit 23 HRs last year as a 23-year-old
21 HRs*

4:08
Is Michael Comforto legit?
Steve Adams
4:08
The .420 OBP and .650 SLG aren't "legit" in the sense that they're sustainable, but I think he can hit for a good average with an OBP in the upper 300s and a slugging in the mid-500s, yeah.

4:10
So Bryce was awesome, then he started last year awesome and fell off, and is awesome again this year. Think he was injured in 2016?
Steve Adams
4:10
There were reports all year that Harper was injured and weird comments from the player, his agent and the team surrounding that situation. Something wasn't right with him.
4:11
Ok, I'm going to close up for the week. Jason's up tomorrow night at 630pm CT, Jeff on Tuesday at 2pm CT. Enjoy your weeks! You can send me more stuff on Twitter if you're so inclined: @Adams_Steve.
