Steve Adams

Injuries, brawls and oh yeah I guess it's almost trade season. You can have all of my most excellent, hottest takes for the next hour! I'll get underway in a couple of minutes. Feel free to fire away with questions.
Super2Deadline
2:59
If my calculations are correct, based on the information available....we should be passing me no later than June 2nd?
Steve Adams
3:00
There's no great way of knowing when the deadline is because it'll be determined by the total service time from the top 22 percent of this year's class, which is subject to change and constantly in flux. It'll be sometime in early June, but you can't really put a firm date on it. mid-June's a safe-ish bet.

Trout injury all but guarantee Angels are sellers at deadline?
Steve Adams
3:02
I didn't like them as buyers in the first place, but yeah, I don't see how they realistically go for it. The Astros have such a huge lead anyway that they'd basically trying to buy for a chance at a one-game Wild Card spot. Guys like Yunel, Petit, Norris and other guys on expiring contracts will be marketed, I expect.

What's up with Posey not defending his pitcher? There must be more than meets the eye to this one.
Steve Adams
3:02
Maybe he sat there staring blankly at what a colossal idiot his pitcher was and was too dumbfounded to move.
Maybe he thought "Whatever, Stickland deserves this. He is a colossal idiot."
3:03
He's gotten in between players and Bumgarner before.
Ray
3:03
Cuban SS Jose Israel Garcia will he sign soon and to who?
Steve Adams
3:04
I'd imagine he'll sign before June 15 since he's eligible this signing period and has been linked to teams that will be in the penalty box next period. But I don't have a good idea on where, nor do I really know that we should expect it to be all that significant of a signing. If he were going to sign for millions there'd be more out there on him than some vague and brief reports from Jon Heyman
Andy
3:05
Who makes the biggest contribution to their team in 2017 - Lewis Brinson, Clint Frazier, Willy Adames, Ozzie Albies, or Nick Senzel?
Steve Adams
3:05
Brinson would get my guess. Easier to see playing time for him opening up than it is with some of the others.
Hunky Dory

Sox pick up a Jed Lowrie or a Yangervis Solarte to account for Pedroia/boost IF in general?
Steve Adams
3:08
Either one would make sense to me, though let's first see how bad Pedroia's injury is. They could use the depth either way. Dombrowski may be the one guy who's not keen on dealing with Preller right now, ha, though I still feel that whole stigma is overstated. And if Dombro wanted Solarte, he'd put the past aside I'd imagine.

3:08
What is up with my man Brett Lawrie?
Steve Adams
3:09
Was injured and apparently not pursuing a contract till he was back to 100%. I imagine if he were chasing a job right now, his reps would be informing the media of said news,
Robbie

Why won't the Mets leave Gsellman in the rotation and take Harvey out? Gsellman has been much more consistent.
Steve Adams
3:10
They have more invested in Harvey and rightly believe that his ceiling is higher, though who knows if he'll ever get anywhere near that following both TJ and TOS surgeries.
Falvey
3:10
Difference in upside of Greene and Wright
Steve Adams
3:10
More upside in Greene but considerably more risk and a much, much longer timeline for when he'd be able to help a big league club.
Scroopy Noopers
3:11
Is Tim Beckham taking steps towards being a reliable everyday player?
Steve Adams
3:11
He's still barely walking and still K'ing in more than a third of his plate appearances. I'm not a huge fan of him as an everyday guy
Trog
3:12
True or False? Rangers would be better off falling in standings and getting assets for Yu, Nap, Lucroy, etc. than trying to go all in for a Wild Card spot.
Steve Adams
3:13
In terms of the long-term goal of building a sustainable contender, sure that's true. But they've invested a ton in this season, and no team relishes the idea of waving the white flag in that manner.
Stretch Run
3:14
I read in an article recently that the Dodgers feel that their greater need is for a LH reliever, and not a solid, healthy starting pitcher. I disagree. You?
Steve Adams
3:14
The ridiculous amount of rotation depth they have lessens the need for me, though it'd be nice to have a more sure thing for the playoff rotation, I suppose, especially with Wood hurting at the moment.

3:14
What tigers do you think could be on the trading block if they decide to sell?
Steve Adams
3:15
JD Martinez for sure. Justin Wilson and K-Rod for sure. Maybe Kinsler. Doubt they're moving the cornerstone guys (i.e. Miggy, Verlander). Not that trading either would be easy anyhow, given the remaining money, no-trade provisions, etc.

Barring injury does trout getting hurt make judge a likely top 2 mvp finisher?
Steve Adams
3:16
Wwwwwwwaaaaayyy too early to make that type of proclamation. Is it realistic for him to finish top two? Absolutely. But that's not the same as it being likely.
Girchuk
3:17
Is Grichuk done in STL? I understood the post earlier today about why he went to A instead of AAA but that just doesn't seem like a move you see teams make when they still view a player as a long-term building block...
Steve Adams
3:18
No -- the demotion to A is about getting him extra at-bats in extended spring training when he's not playing in actual FSL games. I don't think it'll be a long-term thing, and by all accounts the team still believes he can be a regular for them
Chris
3:19
Is Cameron Rupp a tradeable asset for the Phillies? Anyone else likely to fetch a decent return (Joseph, Hellickson, Beniot, etc.)?
Steve Adams
3:20
I'm not a huge Rupp fan, but I'm sure there'd be some level of interest just because he's controllable, has some power and plays an always-in-demand position. But I don't think he'd bring back a massive haul of prospects.

Benoit, Neshek -- sure. Hellickson's peripherals are terrible this year and his salary is huge. Joseph I don't see since they still control him 4+ years. Saunders and Kendrick could fetch a piece if they're hitting reasonably well in two months.
Matt
3:21
Who are some of the top 2018 draft prospects?
Steve Adams
3:21
We're not even done with the 2017 draft yet! Priorities! Ha
Koda Glover
3:21
I look like a legit closer, right?
Steve Adams
3:22
You look like a legitimately useful reliever that I'd like to see generate more swings and misses. But generally speaking I'm of the mind that most serviceable relievers can close. They all go through bad stretches for the most part... the guys who just happen to have one of those stretches right after getting handed the ninth inning don't get the leash to show they'd eventually be fine, though.

Anyobody on the Twins "off-limits" if they decide to sell? (Assuming Sano & Berrios only)
