And even the June swaps may come later in the month.
OL' PERFESSER

What would Betances be worth on the trade market when Chapman comes back?
Steve Adams
3:49
Probably something similar to what they got for Miller last year, but the Yankees aren't going to shop him when they're firmly in contention -- even if it meant bringing back MLB-ready assets.
Matt Klentak
3:49
What should I be doing with Odubel Herrera & Maikel Franco?
Steve Adams
3:51
Exactly this -- keep playing them and hoping for improvement. They're two talented guys who have fallen on difficult times, but the Phillies were never going this year anyway. If it were two veteran guys, sure, DFA one and make way for younger talent. But the Phillies are hopeful that both of those guys can be core pieces for them, especially Herrera, and if they're going to have growing pains/adjustment periods/whatever you want to call them -- a losing season is the time to do it. At a certain point, maybe you consider a minor league stint, but you also want to continue showing confidence, and they've both thrived in the Majors before

More trade value, Robertson or Hand?
Steve Adams
3:52
I'd go with Hand since he's cheaper, left-handed and has more club control remaining, but I bet there are some teams that'd prefer D-Rob's track record

Given the glaring issues with the Orioles should they sell high on Britton and Manny to restock farm system or keep trying to make playoffs with mediocre pitching staff?
Steve Adams
3:53
Well, can't really sell high on Brtton at the moment.
If they completely tank I think they SHOULD be open to it, but I don't think they actually WOULD be. They've consistently fielded a contender and it stocking the farm doesn't exactly see to be Duquette's MO (the opposite, rather).

who is the future Ace for puerto rico in the WBC Jose Berrios or Jose De Leon
Steve Adams
3:54
I'm bigger on Berrios than De Leon
KDS
3:54
Any guess on the next Braves pitching prospect to get the call? Newcomb?
Steve Adams
3:55
Walks are still such an issue for him (though that may just always be the case). I still think they'd want to keep him down a bit longer to try to sort that out or at least make *some* improvement. Lucas Sims gets my vote.

Why is Brandon McKay rated so high when he doesn't have have a defined position? Is he really that good at both hitting and pitching that regardless he is the secound best player in the draft?
Steve Adams
3:57
Basically, yeah. It's not that he doesn't have a defined position, it's that he's so good that scouts feel he could do either in the Majors in the reasonably near future. And there's probably an assumption among many that he'd get better at one specific area once he fully commits to hitting or pitching.
Power
3:57
Gallo or Judge - Who are you taking?
Steve Adams
3:57
Judge
3:58
Unless you mean in terms of sheer power -- Gallo probably has more actual raw power. But if you're asking who will be the better player, Judge. Not close for me.
Dave
3:58
Can we say that the Craig Kimbrel is the best closer of the entire MLB?
Steve Adams
3:58
Him or Jansen right now with Britton and Chapman hurting.

Regarding Harper/Strickland.. Isn't what strickland did "making baseball fun again"? Beanball was condoned in the old days, but charging the mound was always a no-no as far as i know. Strickland is childish, but harper's a hypocrite, no?
Steve Adams
4:00
Strickland striking Harper out and making a big show of it would've been akin to Harper's "make it fun again."

Harper is about showing some flair and some emotion, but that's hardly the same as whipping something at someone at 98 mph with the possibility of hurting them. You're reahcing.
There's nothing "fun" about seeing a guy get drilled with a pitch and breaking a bone.
Jason Vargas
4:01
I am on _________ on August 1
Steve Adams
4:02
A big league roster!

Seriously though, there's no way of pegging exactly which player is going to go where. We don't even know what teams are going to be buying rental pitchers yet. I could see 10+ teams having some level of interest i n Vargas, though the return won't be commensurate with his gaudy ERA. Teams are still going to look at him largely as a soft-tossing back-of-the-rotation guy.
4:03
Could see Yankees, Red Sox, Mets, Cardinals, Cubs, Rox, Dodgers, D-backs, Indians all having some semblance of interest in him
Ok, I've gotta wrap up for the week. Jason's chatting tomorrow night at 6:30 CT, Jeff on Thursday at 2 CT. I'm on Twitter @Adams_Steve. Thanks for chatting everyone!
