Amid rumors that Steve Adams' food poisoning last week was a fake injury coming down from management, let's get chatting.

When do we stop fooling around with Skaggs and trade him
Tim Dierkes
2:01
If healthy, he'll probably be one of the Angels' more interesting trade chips this summer.

Odds Mad Max is with Nats Aug. 1?
Tim Dierkes
2:03
I'll say around 98%.  Though the Nats, with playoff odds down to around 40% (and I wouldn't blame you for taking the under) could put some interesting pieces on the market.  Primarily Rendon.

Would Marlins be wise to trade Caleb Smith closer to the deadline if he keeps it up? 4.5 more years of control can prob get a huge haul
Tim Dierkes
2:04
I could see him being the most coveted trade chip, but I feel a rebuilding club should be hoarding excellent young pitchers with league minimum salaries.  Occasionally a rebuild ends early, and who knows, the Marlins could be decent in 2021 somehow.

Will this Holland stuff and the altherr signing signal the beginning of the sell-off in SF? I can think of 5 teams that would put in a bid on Will Smith...what are they waiting for?
Tim Dierkes
2:05
I don't think a little clubhouse discord or the addition of a mildly interesting player like Altherr will result in the Giants speeding up their timeline.  I guess I can see why they didn't choose to go full-on rebuild given the contracts on their ledger, but they've instead straddled the line between rebuild and contend and have done neither well.

Will the Twins ever commit to Parker or Rogers as every opportunity closer?
Tim Dierkes
2:06
The counterargument is, why should they?  Aside from serving fantasy players.

Paddack has 7 starts, 4 or less hits in each start, .130/.193/.196 against, 46/10 k/bb.... has there been a better start to a rookie career (pitcher) in recent memory?  Big test against the Dodgers tomorrow.
Tim Dierkes
2:07
That's a tough "off the top of my head" question.  Hideo Nomo had a really strong start?

Why do you suppose Maddon does not have an extension?  Is he asking for a king's ransom, or is this something where they have basework in place, and if this year's team reaches whatever milestones they determine the cash?
Tim Dierkes
2:08
I think neither of those.  It's more the Cubs keeping their options open and also hoping to light a fire under a celebrity manager who at times has seemed a bit complacent.  I believe it's either World Series or Maddon moves on.
Paddack
2:08
If Paddack hits the 130-150 innings he is aiming for, is that enough to keep him in the conversation for ROY, or will he basically be out of contention because of the cap?
Tim Dierkes
2:09
When the performance is that insane, it's enough to stay in the mix at 150 innings.  Would be tough though if Pete Alonso hits 40 HR or something.

Giants have been searching for outfielders all year. I know Maybin  Had  a DUI  In Spring training but man he is playing great for the yankees. Do you think like I do the giants should of gave him a chance
Tim Dierkes
2:11
I don't think they cut him because of his DUI, though I probably would have.  In a general sense, the Giants seem to be making their outfield decisions in a very illogical, fickle way.
Dereck Holland

Wtf is my problem? The giants did not have to bring me back.
Tim Dierkes
2:12
He broke the unwritten edict: "The first rule about fake injuries is that you don't talk about fake injuries."  My guess is that the truth lies somewhere in-between but more toward Holland's take - that his injury was playable by most accounts but not an egregious use of the IL.

Hey Tim. If Jose Ramirez’s struggles linger into June, should the Indians consider optioning him to Triple-A? He’s been struggling since mid to late July last year, and isn’t showing any signs of improvement.
Tim Dierkes
2:13
I just can't see it, there's no precedent for a guy finishing third in the MVP vote two years in a row and then only getting two months before being demoted.

Are the '19 Nats like the '17 Giants or '13 Phillies?  They window is closed and everybody knows it but them?
Tim Dierkes

I was surprised to see FG put their playoff odds at 40% right now.  7.5 games back seems insurmountable.  But, they've got a weaker schedule than the rest of the division from here on out, and FG's 84 win projection means playing .556 ball from here on out.  That doesn't seem nuts for a team with Rendon, Turner, Soto, Scherzer, Stras, and Corbin on it.  That's a ton of talent in six players and their next tier has good players too.

WHy are questions rejected???
Tim Dierkes

It's more that there are more questions than I can reasonably answer in an hour.  We've got about 300 people in the chat currently (which is not crazy) but I can only type and think so fast.

Has Zaidi really acquitted himself with knowing anything about MLB personnel?   His moves have been yawners to absolutely horrible so far.

I did a semi-deep dive into the OF mess today: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/05/giants-outfield.html

And while I don't like judging a GM on such a small sample, it's just a bad look for him so far as I summed up in the final paragraph.

Your thoughts on the market for DET pitchers Matthew Boyd and Shane Greene?
Tim Dierkes
2:19
Boyd has huge trade value, starting with a top 50 or better prospect.  I more skeptical that Greene has truly found a new level (18 innings) but he is starting to move to the top of the coveted relievers this summer.  They may keep Boyd but really have to trade Greene.

Is Darvish (NTC aside) tradeable?  Probably not an in-season trade candidate, but in the offseason?  How much salary would the Cubs have to eat?
Tim Dierkes
2:22
He's walking 19.3% of batters faced...that is Chatwood level bad.  He's only tradeable in the winter for an equally bad contract - I'll have to dig to see if one exists.  The Cubs will be staring at $81MM over four years for the age 33-36 seasons of a guy who has been either hurt or terrible for two full years.  That's about as radioactive as a contract gets, Chris Davis aside.

Should the MLB stop drug testing?  Seems like a really easy way to attract younger fans.
Tim Dierkes
2:22
I'm not sure if this is a serious question, but no, I don't think MLB should encourage PED use as a way to attract younger fans.  I don't even know if younger fans CAN like baseball the way previous generations did.

Who could possibly be the biggest names traded by this year's deadline? Will the August waiver deadline being gone have a big effect on the number of selling teams?
Tim Dierkes
2:24
Plenty of sellers...you've got 8-9 teams that essentially have no chance already at contending.  I do think a team like the Pirates or Nationals might have traded some guys in August and now they won't trade those guys at all because they won't have the time to be pushed out of the race fully.
2:25
Stroman, Puig, Minor, Jose Abreu, Castellanos, Boyd, MadBum, Smoak, Ken Giles, Will Smith, Greene are some names to watch.
My list of trade candidates is approaching 200 though.
