We've got a light slate of baseball games today, with the draft beginning in about three hours.  Let's get chatting!

Who do you think the Dodgers will be targeting for the trade deadline?
Tim Dierkes
1:57
I'd have to think the focus will be on bullpen additions.

Who in your mind are the first closers to get traded this year?
Tim Dierkes
1:58
Shane Greene, Will Smith, and Ken Giles - no reason for any of those teams to wait if they get an offer they like.

Whatever happened to Ozzie guillen?
Tim Dierkes

Running local ads for attorney Howard Ankin, last I checked.

% chance Braves sign Kimbrel and or Keuchel?
Tim Dierkes
2:00
20% that they sign one of them

now that the pick is gone, is there movement on Keuchel/Kimbrel? Does them not having signed yet mean they're still hoping to get better offers, or could there be another thing holding it up?
Tim Dierkes
2:01
I assume each has a certain financial threshold they're waiting to be reached, and they'll pull the trigger if that is offered.  Certainly easier for teams to make better offers now.

Do you think Dipoto regrets not trading Haniger to the braves last offseason?
Tim Dierkes
2:03
No...he set a high asking price and it was not met (not even close, I believe).  Haniger has been worse but still decent this year, so I think his trade value remains strong.

Anything new on K&K and the Twins aside from there have been talks?
Tim Dierkes
2:04
There's just not much out there lately aside from the names of teams that are interested.  And perhaps some pessimism toward the Padres signing Keuchel.

Of Kimbrel and the three you listed, who would you pick?
Tim Dierkes
2:05
I'd go with Giles.

What's the timeline for hiring the two new writers?
Tim Dierkes
2:06
Looks like we received about 130 applications.  It will take a couple of weeks to go through those and do several rounds of interviews.  I'd like to have both people in place and beginning training by the end of the month.

Is there any merit to the opinion that Baltimore should not take rauschman since, as a catcher, he won’t play everyday?
Tim Dierkes
2:07
In my opinion no, catchers are not inherently less valuable because they play less.  Their position is also the hardest one to play.

So I get it, HOF is a lifetime award.  Once in you will always be a Hall of Famer.   But how long to season stats last?  People refer to Cargo as an All Star OF, but he is not.  He once was, but he is now a shell of that player.   Can we start a movement to stop calling people All Stars, Silver Sluggers, Gold Glovers, etc, as soon as they have not won the award in the next applicable season?
Tim Dierkes
2:09
I think writers are just trying to communicate that this player was once above average in some aspect and possibly even a star.  I believe most MLBTR readers understand what CarGo is now even if we mention that he's a three-time All-Star.

How are keuchel and Kimbrel not signed? Or at least offers out until the public?
Tim Dierkes
2:10
I have to assume the teams involved are keeping things mum, and the two agents have not found it to their benefit to leak offers.  Best we have is from Ken Rosenthal, that in mid-April Kimbrel was seeking three years and $39-52MM.  And that was with the draft pick attached.

With the White Sox almost to .500 and 2 games out of the wild card, do they try to get some starting pitching, sell, or stay the rebuilding course?
Tim Dierkes
2:11
They are in a weird spot.  No real chance at the playoffs, yet completely in contention at present.  Sometimes that results in a rebuilder retaining its assets.

Any chance in you opinion of a Red Sox/Kimbrel getting back together or too much water under the bridge?
Tim Dierkes
2:12
I think it's still just a financial problem for the Red Sox.

Why on earth would I trade Stroman and Sanchez?
Tim Dierkes
2:13
They each are controlled only through 2020.  The Jays know they're not contending in 2019, so unless they're planning a big playoff push for '20, it makes sense to sell.

Based on my calculations, the Braves bullpen has cost them 9 wins this year (completely made up stat).  They NEED Kimbrel, am I wrong?
Tim Dierkes
2:15
He's a fit there as he is with 6-8 teams.  Keep in mind the chance that Kimbrel actually isn't great.  He's capable of walking about 13% of batters faced, gives up a lot of flyballs, is 31, and is looking at like an eight month layoff between MLB games.

What kind of package would it take for the Yankees to get Bauer or Max at the deadline subject to Indians/Nationals becoming sellers...
Tim Dierkes
2:19
They've got several 55-60 grade prospects that teams can target depending on how close to the Majors they prefer their acquisitions to be.  With Scherzer a big part of the calculus is taking on a guy making $35MM/year (albeit much of it deferred).

Over the last few years, i have noticed especially with pitchers, that teams have put players on the 10 day injured list after a few bad outings with an “out of the blue injury”. Can MLB do anything about it.
Tim Dierkes
2:20
I suppose MLB could grill the player about whether the team overstated his injury, but it's possible many players don't really mind the time off/mental break.
Pirate Pain

It would be lunacy to take Giles over Kimbrel.
