There is not process in DC for you to cancel your title.  Once you sell the vehicle and it's re-titled by the new owner, the title will be cancelled.

DMV will accept your documentation from your doctor beyond the 60 normal requirement.

If I make doctors appointments and the verifications for vision and physical requirements are beyond the 60 day limit, will you grant an extension of those limits or do I have to start over with the doctors?

If you have a REAL ID compliant license (which would have the black star in the upper right hand corner), you can renew online or using the DCDMV App in most cases.

I'll DM you and you can respond.

Thank you, I would appreciate it if the files could be checked. How do I DM you the ticket number?
DC Dept of Motor Vehicles
12:27
Unfortunately, the ticket is too old and all options for a hearing (which is where you would request a penalty waiver) are no longer available.  DMV sends all notices to the address of record.  We also maintain copies of what we send and where it goes. If we have copies of those notices on file, your only option would be to pay the ticket along with the penalty.  You can DM me the ticket number.

I just received a ticket in the mail. I went to pay the ticket and discovered there is a very old ticket (2017) that has not been paid. I never received notice of this ticket and would have paid immediately if I had received it.  I'm happy to pay the fine, but am wondering if there is a way to have the penalties removed since I never received the citation.

DC DMV Credential Extension Information
In accordance with applicable laws and the current Mayor’s Order, all DC DMV documents with an expiration date on or after March 1 will remain valid until 45 days after the coronavirus (COVID-19) public health emergency concludes. Eligible documents include driver licenses, identification cards, vehicle registrations, inspections, ticket payments and ticket adjudication responses. Under DC law, your license, registration and inspection are still valid.

All driver licenses, vehicle registrations, and vehicle inspections scheduled to expire have been granted a waiver without penalty until DC DMV reopens at full operating capacity. Customers are encouraged to use online options by visiting dmv.dc.gov. DC DMV has more than 55 online services enabling customers to “skip the in-person trip.”

When travelling to other states/jurisdictions, it is recommended that you print and carry the following memo: DC DMV Credential Extension Update

I know about the Tuesday 3:00 PM deal.  But there are still no available slots. I am afraid that if I were stopped driving in another state  my expired license would not be honored. Something must be done!

DC DMV is now offering District residents who have recently purchased a vehicle through a private sale the option to title and register the vehicle in the District through a hybrid internet/mail transaction.

The DMV will follow guidance from Health Officials and allow more volume when it is safe to do so for everyone.
