Hi. You may call (866) 893-5023 to pay tickets by phone and obtain ticket details. You will likely need to provide your driver license number for details on specific tickets.

Hi. Now that you are a VA resident, you will need to convert your driver license at the VA DMV. Once you convert your license, you will be able to register your vehicle in VA. You won't be able to obtain a VA vehicle registration until you have a VA driver license.

Hello, I lost my DC registration card and already moved out of DC to VA. I could not change my address on the DC DMV website to my VA address so that I can get a replacement registration card for when I go to the VA DMV and get a VA registration for my vehicle. I was wondering if there was a way I could get proof of my DC registration either electronically or in physical copy form so that I can take it to the VA DMV and get a VA registration for my vehicle without having to go to the DC DMV? <END>

Hi. So long as you selected RPP when you completed the online change of address request, you will receive a registration sticker with the same RPP Zone as your previous registration sticker, if you live in the same RPP block.

If you have a valid international driver license, you will need to take the knowledge test. https://dmv.dc.gov/service/driver-license-for-non-us-citizens

Hi. The online driving course is only accepted for residents with an expired DC driver license.

An email came out yesterday that said a DC DMV online driving course may be used instead of the knowledge test. Does this apply to driver's with international licenses tryng to switch to a DC license?

I'm now ready to take your questions related to any DMV service and activity. If you have a question not related to DMV, I'll try my best to redirect you to the appropriate agency.  Also, I may not be able to answer specific questions which require research related to DMV issues since I only have an hour to chat. Therefore, if your question is specific to your driver license, a ticket, etc, I may request you submit it to us by email (dmvchat@dcdmv.zendesk.com) or service request (http://311.dc.gov).

Good afternoon and welcome to today’s online chat with me, Jamie Miller, Public Information Officer with DC Department of Motor Vehicles. Today, we’ll discuss your various DMV issues related to driver licenses and identification cards; vehicle inspections, titles and registrations; and the adjudication of photo, parking and moving violations. DMV is not an enforcement agency and does not issue tickets. We have over 55 online services (http://dmv.dc.gov/page/online-services) and seven facilities which provide in-person service to 2,800-3,300 daily customers. In regards to tickets, we have two main sister agencies: DDOT which regulates parking (i.e., signage, meters and parking permits) and DPW/DDOT which issues parking tickets, along with 30 plus other entities in the District. Also, MPD issues photo enforcement tickets.

Good Afternoon, please submit your questions now. Please put < END > at the end of your email before submitting. The chat session will go live at 12PM (NOON) EST.
