Director Robinson, Thank you so much for setting up an online chat with someone in your office who could check my inspection records. Ms. Harris was very helpful, and I appreciate how you solved this problem for me so quickly. Thank you!

Hello.  This question is best suited for the Department of Transportation.  The DMV is not involved in road design.

The traffic pattern on New Jersey Avenue between Rhode Island Avenue and New York Avenue was changed early 2023 for 'vision zero'. NYC has had vision zero policies in place for the last 10 years and it has resulted in no discernable change in fatalities. The new traffic pattern has resulted in a significant increase in congestion which is counter to the city's climate goals. In addition, would it not make more sense to divert cycle traffic traveling north to 5th street where there is less overall traffic and have 3 car lanes? Also, the intersection Southbound on New Jersey at N street and northbound at O street is dangerous with traffic often continuing straight in the turn lanes. What other alternatives were considered for vision zero for the changes to NJ avenue and how was a reduction in lanes determined to be the best course of action?

Hello.  I agree with you on how dangerous texting/talking while driving is.  MPD is the agency that enforces this violation.

What is the city's plan to combat drivers who are utilizing their phones while driving? Studies have shown texting/talking on the phone using your hands while driving is as dangerous as drunk driving.

What is your question about inspection?
Lynda

Need to clarify an issue with the Inspection Office. I called the number given to me by DMV, but it sounds like there is only one person staffing that phone line? How can I help get a records question resolved?

Hello.  You will need the actual title.  DMV will not accept a photocopy.

I have a question about registering a car in the district as a new resident - the website indicates a copy of the title is necessary. Does this mean an official copy from the issuing state, or is a photocopy/photo sufficient?

Have you made contact with the DMV's Office of Service Integrity for a review of the matter?  If not, I can get you in contact with them.

Right - that's the problem.  The address of record is not my address (nor has it ever been) nor do I own the vehicle referenced on the ticket.

Hello.  Tickets are mailed to the address of record and the owner of the vehicle is responsible for the tickets.

Good afternoon - in trying to renew my car registration, I was informed that I have 5 moving violations against.  But I was not the driver of the car and when I went to the adjudication center, they provided me with a copy of the 5 tickets.  While my name is listed on the ticket, the address listed on the ticket is that of a homeless shelter...I filed a complaint with the Office of Integrity but am waiting to hear back.

I'm now ready to take your questions related to any DMV service and activity. If you have a question not related to DMV, I'll try my best to redirect you to the appropriate agency.  Also, I may not be able to answer specific questions which require research related to DMV issues since I only have an hour to chat. Therefore, if your question is specific to your driver license, a ticket, etc, I may request you submit it to us by email (dmv@dc.gov) or service request (http://311.dc.gov).

Good afternoon and welcome to today’s online chat with me, Gabriel Robinson, DMV Director. Today, we’ll discuss your various DMV issues related to driver licenses and identification cards; vehicle inspections, titles and registrations; and the adjudication of photo, parking and moving violations. We have over 55 online services (http://dmv.dc.gov/page/online-services) and seven facilities which provide in-person service to 2,800-3,300 daily customers. In regards to tickets, we have two main sister agencies: DDOT which regulates parking (i.e., signage, meters and parking permits) and DPW/DDOT which issues parking tickets, along with 30 plus other entities in the District. Also, MPD issues photo enforcement tickets.
