Hi Leron, thank you for your question.
Bicycle Awareness specialty vehicle tags are available at all DC DMV Service Centers and fees will be deposited into the Vision Zero Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Fund. Details about these tags can be found here - https://dmv.dc.gov/book/vehicle-fees/vehicle-tags

Good day.  I noticed that the Bicycle Awareness specialty tags aren't listed in the Vehicle Tags portion of the DMV website.  Is there a reason?

To answer your second question:

You can now check your vehicle's Inspection Status right from the DC DMV mobile app. You can also download a recent inspection report, directly from the app. In the app, navigate to the Vehicle Services section, and enter your DL, driver information and VIN to get comprehensive and free vehicle information. The app is free and can be downloaded from Apple’s App Store and the Google Play Store by searching DC DMV.
If you buy your car at the end of a lease, to register it, you will need all of the information above and an odometer statement that shows the current mileage of the vehicle. You may retain the current valid vehicle tags from your lease period.

More information about lease buyout registration and inspection can be found here: Registration of a New or Used Vehicle | dmv (dc.gov)

Hi Ledja, thank you for your questions.

To answer the first one:

Vehicle inspection is required for all vehicles registered in the District, and must have a valid inspection sticker. Vehicle inspection is valid for 2 years on a personal vehicle. If your vehicle is leased, you  (or the leasing company) must submit a request for the title to the leasing company (normally the leasing company will only send the title directly to DC DMV) prior to titling/registering the vehicle. Once DC DMV receives the title, the vehicle may be registered. In addition to the other documents required for registering the vehicle, you must also provide a signed lease agreement.

Hi, two questions please

  1. For lease buy-out transactions, would the vehicle inspection be required only at the time registration is up for renewal?
  2. Can  we can check if an inspection was completed/ or is current online?

I'm now ready to take your questions related to any DMV service and activity. If you have a question not related to DMV, I'll try my best to redirect you to the appropriate agency. Also, I may not be able to answer specific questions which require research related to DMV issues since I only have an hour to chat. Therefore, if your question is specific to your driver license, a ticket, etc., I may request you submit it to us by email (dmv@dc.gov) or service request (http://311.dc.gov).
12:00
Good afternoon and welcome to today’s online chat with me, Chiderah Monde, DMV Public Information Officer. Today, we’ll discuss your various DMV issues related to driver licenses and identification cards; vehicle inspections, titles and registrations; and the adjudication of photo, parking and moving violations. We have over 55 online services (http://dmv.dc.gov/page/online-services) and seven facilities which provide in-person service to 2,800-3,300 daily customers. In regard to tickets, we have two main sister agencies: DDOT which regulates parking (i.e., signage, meters, and parking permits) and DPW/DDOT which issues parking tickets, along with 30 plus other entities in the District. Also, MPD issues photo enforcement tickets.
11:30
Good morning, please submit your questions now. The chat session begins at 12PM (NOON) EST.
