The Inspection Station team is diligent in providing direction and assistance to vehicles waiting to be served. However, the volume of traffic on any given day is out of our control. Again, we encourage residents to plan accordingly and utilize self-service options if eligible to avoid long wait times.

So are you saying there is nothing the DMV Inspection Station can do to help with re-routing traffic, providing signage, or staff to assist its patrons’ vehicles awaiting to be served?

Good afternoon. Thank you for your inquiry and suggestion. We are limited with space at the Southwest Service Center and Inspection Station, and certain days of the week (like Thursdays) tend to be busier than others. To avoid traffic overflow we encourage residents to come early, as the Inspection Station is open from 6am, or utilize our self-service kiosks located at Takoma and Fort Station Rec Center if they are eligible. More information on the self-service kiosks can be found on our website here: Self-Service Vehicle Emissions Inspection Kiosk - Takoma | dmv

Safety Concern - SW inspection station cars back up into traffic on I (Eye) Street SW. This forces cars into the oncoming traffic. There is no bailout. Extremely dangerous. Can cars be re-routed to enter Half Street from M Street SW and then use K Street SW for overflow?

I'm now ready to take your questions related to any DMV service and activity.  If you have a question not related to DMV, I'll try my best to redirect you to the appropriate agency.  Also, I may not be able to answer specific questions which require research related to DMV issues since I only have an hour to chat.  Therefore, if your question is specific to your driver license, a ticket, etc., I may request you submit it to us (Submit a request – MyDVASupport) or via 311 service request (http://311.dc.gov).

Good afternoon and welcome to today’s online chat with me, Chiderah Monde, DMV’s public information officer. Today, we’ll discuss your various DMV issues related to driver licenses and identification cards; vehicle inspections, titles, and registrations; and the adjudication of photo, parking and moving violations. We have over 60 online services (http://dmv.dc.gov/page/online-services) and seven facilities which provide in-person services to over 3,000 daily customers. Regarding tickets, we have two main sister agencies: DDOT which regulates parking (i.e., signage, meters, and parking permits) and DPW/DDOT, which issues parking tickets, along with 30 plus other entities in the District. Also, MPD issues photo enforcement tickets.

Good morning, please submit your questions now. The chat session begins at 12PM (NOON) EST.
