Insurance companies that make a damage settlement for a salvage/non-repairable vehicle and do not keep the vehicle must notify the vehicle’s owner/lessor of his or her obligation to apply to DC DMV for a salvage/non-repairable title within 30 calendar days of settlement.

The vehicle has not been sold yet. We received the DC salvage title but the insurance company changed their minds and decided to request a junk title. I wanted to know if there are any other documents needed besides the DC salvage title to transfer it into a junk title. For example an affidavit of corrections.

Hi there, to apply for a DC Non-Repairable title you must have the vehicle title in your name, a bill of sale or registration to the vehicle. Learn more here - https://dmv.dc.gov/service/salvage-vehicle-titleregistration

Hello. I was in the process of renewing my GA license when it was flagged for an outstanding reinstatement fee from 1998. I have no record of any outstanding payments due to the District of Columbia. Please advise what information you need from me for assistance.

Hi Peter, the Georgetown DMV suffered significant water damage from a large water main break inside of our Service Center. Our team is working quickly to repair the facility. The location will reopen, but we don’t have a confirmed date yet.

What caused the pipe burst at the Georgetown DMV office? Is there an estimated date when the that office will reopen? What has to be repaired and what will it cost?

I'm now ready to take your questions related to any DMV service and activity. If you have a question not related to DMV, I'll try my best to redirect you to the appropriate agency. Also, I may not be able to answer specific questions which require research related to DMV issues since I only have an hour to chat. Therefore, if your question is specific to your driver license, a ticket, etc., I may request you submit it to us (Submit a request – MyDVASupport) or via 311 service request (http://311.dc.gov).

Good afternoon and welcome to today’s online chat with me, Emma Steinmetz, DMV’s Communications Specialist. Today, we’ll discuss your various DMV issues related to driver licenses and identification cards; vehicle inspections, titles and registrations; and the adjudication of photo, parking and moving violations. We have over 55 online services (http://dmv.dc.gov/page/online-services) and multiple facilities which provide in-person service to 2,800-3,300 daily customers. In regard to tickets, we have two main sister agencies: DDOT which regulates parking (i.e., signage, meters and parking permits), DPW/DDOT which issues parking tickets, and MPD who issues photo enforcement tickets along with 30 plus other entities in the District.
