Good Monday, all! Fresh of a stupendous weekend of fantasy baseball talk at First Pitch Florida Online (LMK if you were there!), back here to take questions, and by the looks of the queue, we’re off to a great start. Remember to give me some brief context (format, tms, any non-traditional categories etc) so I can give you my most informed opinion. Lots to talk about, let’s go …

AL only 5X5  11 team keeper auction league $260 budget, 14 pos/9 pitcher       I have been offered Grichuk ($4)and a 4th round pick (25th) for my Straw ($10) and Ottavino ($9).  I have Jose Ramirez and Dylan Moore for SB.  Do I take the deal?
Brent Hershey
12:01
I think I’d decline … Grichuk’s AB seem to be at risk w/ new Jays in two. While some questions about Straw/Otta, and think they COULD be trade candidates for you, not sure this is it. I’m intrigued by Straw some overall and the fact that it’s AL only. Good luck.

11 team AL only, 5X5 with OBP, Solds, and QS+Wins.  Need to choose 1 Keeper from the list for 2021 only.  Kelenic 2, Maeda 18, Leody Tavares 2, T. Hernandez 13, Karinchak 2, Voit 18. Current inflation due to keepers Offense 8.9, Pitching 1.5.
Brent Hershey
12:04
If “Solds” = Svs + holds, then I’d lean Karinchak, as if he gets passed by Clase or other, he should still be back-end of bullpen. If it’s ONLY “Holds,” then prob shift to Maeda, who is durable and should give you good innings on a good team in 2021.

Prospect question....what is the long term outlook for Josh Green?  I've noticed that while he wasn't a top ranked prospect last year, he did make many top10s and 15s....but now he seems to have collectively fallen off everyone's list.  Did something happen at alternative sites last year?  I figure a pitcher that induces as many groundballs and limiting home runs as much as he does would garner a little more attention?
Brent Hershey
12:04
Don't have any alt-site info on him. Doesn't have an outstanding pitch; strikeout numbers so far below what we like to see for top prospects; also a bit older at 24. Could still make it work, but back-end starter at MLB level is probably his ceiling and pitch-to-contact profile likely doesn't have much fantasy appeal.

Thoughts on Brandon Lowe vs. Cavan Biggio in a 10-team 5x5 OBP keeper league?
Brent Hershey
12:07
Yeah, close, though OBP probably tips my scale towards Biggio a bit. He'll give you power + speed + OBP profile. Like Lowe a lot, and if you're looking for straight power with an average OBP, then he's the choice. But prob in your lg, like Biggio more long-term.

How would you rank the Marlins quartet of SP arms in Sixto, Hernandez, Lopez and Alcantara?
Brent Hershey
12:09
This year: Lopez / Alcantara / Sixto / Hernandez
Long term: Sixto / Lopez / Alcantara / Hernandez
Those first three def tough to rank for me; any of them could take that next step this yr or in the future.

I see Jordan Montgomery is starting to get some helium, appearing near the end of 25-round 10-team leagues. Is he someone you're interested in or are you targeting other dart throw arms in that range?
Brent Hershey
12:11
In that range, yes absolutely. I hate being part of the helium, but OTOH the velocity ticked back up after Tommy John, he throws strikes and peripherals were better than surface stats in 2020. Park risk, but I'm interested later on in drafts.

12:14
Who are some of your most rostered late-game dart throws in your drafts so far?
Brent Hershey
12:14
Montgomery, Garver, Dubon, Tellez, Jonathan Hernandez are a few

Both of my 10-team, 5x5 keeper leagues have at least two SP1-type guys (Cole & Bieber, deGrom, Buehler & Nola). With this kind of base to start and both drafts beginning before round 9 (keep 6 & keep 8) when would it be smart to dive back into the pitching pool to grab another SP?
Brent Hershey
12:18
Assuming this is mixed, in a 10-teamer perhaps sooner than you might think? I'd probably go the safer route (established healthy vets) for your first couple SP adds. Maybe take 3-4 hitters up front, then start to consider pitching?
Lando
12:19
I'm sure you've done several drafts by now. What positions do you think fall off the fastest? To me, looks like it may be 1B or 2B. Thanks so much for your input.
Brent Hershey
12:19
2B for sure. I also have found myself not in love with the SP options in the late teens/early 20s rounds especially. Am trying to use that to plan future draft strategies. Can wait a bit on 1B I think, seems like lots of decent mid-round options there, esp if you grab a top 3B.

What kind of impact could Garrett Crochet provide fantasy leaguers in 2021? Still remember being enticed by 2011 Chris Sale...
Brent Hershey
12:21
Came up several times in our conference over the weekend. In 2021, if he can stay healthy, could be a bullpen weapon -- though prob more in a multi-inning role, rather than CL. Could move to starting in later years, but they also could leave him in high leverage relief if he's doing well. Uncertain fantasy value right now, it seems b/c of these role questions.
Christian
12:24
CLE seems to pump out quality SPs by the minute. How would you approach McKenzie vs. Civale as roto options in 2021?
Brent Hershey
12:24
Agreed, but still questions on these two -- McKenzie with durability/whether body holds up; Civale only marginal K ability. Think if I were going to roll dice on one for fantasy, I'd pre McKenzie due to pure stuff and hope CLE finds the right role for him.

12 team AL only keeper league, traditional 5X5.  With keepers, inflation projects to be at least 30%.  I have a solid keeper list and intend on contending for the championship this year.  Trying to decide if my final keeper spot should be filled by a guy who is slightly overpriced (uninflated) but may go at or above that price if I throw him back.  Choices for the final spot are Aroldis Chapman $24, Clint Frazier $18 or Luis Arraez $5.  Should I keep one or throw them all back?
Brent Hershey
12:27
I'd lean on your team needs. If you don't have a CL, then I wouldn't be afraid to keep Chapman at that price. If your keeper BA needs a boost, maybe Arraez. I like Frazier in general, but that price seems high... but again, you know your league and likely how much he'll fetch. So maybe that's the call. But in a vacuum, I'd prob lean Chapman.

Ke'Bryan Hayes or Yoan Moncada in H2H points? Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:30
I'm a bit surprised that our numbers say Hayes (just given lack of track record-- 2d time around the league is always a risk there). But think he has a chance to be sneaky good in a points league.

12 team, Mixed League 5x5.

We play 5SP, and 4RP. I've always liked the strategy for going with 3 stud RP and one starter in my last RP spot who qualifies as a RP. We use CBS (lord knows why we continue to pay them for this.. but anyway..) and here are their RPs who they project to get meaningful starts this year:

Tejay Antone
Austin Gomber
Cal Quantrill
Joe Ross
Jose Quintana
Alex Young
Ryan Brasier
Freddy Peralta
Nick Pivitta

Do you see any of them having.. uh.. any value? on the CDG only Freddy Peralta has positive value.. or am I better off just taking the best LIMA reliever?
Brent Hershey
12:33
I like Antone a bit more than our CDG (Custom Draft Guide for BaseballHQ subscribers -- fantastic tool; end of plug). In addition to Peralta, I'd also consider Quantrill -- partially b/c of the CLE success w/ pitchers. And MAYBE BOS can figure out Pivetta? But would want to see that first. Good luck!

If he doesn't fix his swing-and-miss, when will Dalbec look over his shoulder and see Casas in the dugout, September or sometime next season?
Brent Hershey
12:33
Really doubt it will be this season; I think mid 2022 debut for Casas (assuming MiLB can get re-set positively)
Greg
12:35
I have Framber Valdez for $3 in a dynasty league and have room to keep him. The league is a 5x5 12 team league and pitching is a premium. Is he worth keeping giving the current news and possibility he might miss the season? I think he actually goes higher if I dump him in even if he is out for the year. Thanks
Brent Hershey
12:35
I'd take your roster into consideration. If you have the keeper room, then yes sounds like he'd be a decent stash, since it's a "fluke" (IE, non-arm) injury.

Loved what I caught of virtual First Pitch Florida this last weekend. I'll be reviewing the sessions I missed this week. Answer might be there in one of the prospect sessions, but what prospects - likely to be called up this season - should I think about putting in one or two of the six slots on my5x5 mixed team's bench?
Brent Hershey
12:37
"Saw" you there, WayOffBase! Thanks so much for coming out. Check out those prospect sections for sure. Wander Franco and Jered Kelenic are the two that come immediately to mind. I expect Kelenic to be up first, but both could adjust quickly and have some success in the season's 2H. Good luck!

12:39
Who are some players who might not be drafted because they will start the season on the IL, may not be available until summer, but can easily be IL stashed and make some fantasy impact for the home stretch?
Brent Hershey
12:39
Sale, Syndergaard, Severino are the three Tommy John guys that come to mind. It's a risk play, b/c any/all of them could experience setbacks, and guys recover from that differently. There's prob a hitter or two I'm not thinking of right now, but those 3 pitchers obv have impact potential.

Who are most valuable from :howard, puk,d Garcia (yanks)
Brent Hershey
12:40
This year ... prob Garcia / Howard / Puk. First 2 are close; giving Deivi the edge since he's had more MLB success
Teddie

Would you rather Kyle Tucker and Dylan Bundy or Ramon Laureano and Kenta Maeda in an AL Only?
