Yeah, a huge bummer. I saw them (with Roth {oohhhhh yeah!}) live in Reading a couple years ago, Wolfgang almost faceplanted as they came out to play. But eddie was great and he's one of the great riff writers of all time. RIP.

Wow, Matzek progressed from a "scattershot 89-92" two years ago to 98 just now.  At 28 he certainly wasn't done building velocity (re: earlier discussion).  Gotta think that was something mechanical.

It's a bit crazy, as hard-pressed as the Braves were for SPs this year, that they never tried Matzek as a starter.

You can understand the drive to not risk ruining something that's working! Especially given his history of injuries and completely losing the plot when it comes to the strike zone.
