Greets, Monday chatters! Looking forward to this as usual; bunch of Qs in the Q already. If you're adding ones now, a quick context reminder: rank my list always better than open-ended, and format/teams/keeper v redraft always helpful. Let's go....

Thanks for these wonderful chats! I, as usual, have 2 questions: I need to make room on my NL 5x5 team for Strider. Can I waive a $5 Eflin?  Also - what's your prediction for O Cruz PT and value for this year?
Brent Hershey
12:04
Realize he didn't look sharp last night, but Eflin has had some solid starts so far. Even with Strider's upside, I usually lean vet in a case like this, esp if you're in the mix this yr.
Cruz is someone that is burning a reserve spot for me in a league or two. Unique enough skillset that he could be worth waiting for this year. HR+SB more than BA in 2022, tho, as swing/miss will be pronounced.

NL-only 5x5. Please rank top 3 for the next 2-4 weeks, and ROS. Fedde, Ty Gilbert, R. Suarez (SD), Ty Rogers (SF), Sulser, Mantiply, Hand, Seranthony Dominguez.
Brent Hershey
12:08
Next 2-4 wks: Fedde, Gilbert ... gap ... Hand, tho not by much. Don't see short-term impact for any of those RP.
ROS: same, except Dominguez #3; seems like more long-term value there.

slow starts for winker and pollack? your thoughts? thank you for all you do for us roto guys and gals!
Brent Hershey
12:10
Winker seems to have started to creep out of it this week. Love the track record of skills; think he'll be fine. Pollock: the injury bug makes it a bit too early to say, though if healthy, production will be there (and has opening in CHW). Def Winker > Pollock, though, if that's a consideration

Nick Madrigal is currently ranked 1049 in CBS Sportsline.  Time to move on or will he turn it around and actually start contributing ?  Thanks
Brent Hershey
12:13
Tough one. BABIP has sunk him early on, which makes his margin for error that much smaller, given his lack of pop and middling speed. Narrow path to value; you might find better on the wire.

Hi Brent. Realizing it's only one month into season and TB's roster is a jig saw puzzle, I'm wondering more each day why Vidal Brujan isn't on the ML roster. He's hitting .361, only 4 K's in 44 PAs, hit the ball hard in his one game with TB a week ago. Roster crunch (and options left) is a big part, I realize, but at 24 it seems he's ready to contribute, and would likely create havoc on bases with his premium speed.
Brent Hershey
12:16
Yes to all; doesn't seem to make sense. I've semi-avoided him this year mostly b/c of all this; he's a fantasy contributor waiting to happen, but the real-life team doesn't seem willing to give him a shot. Which is obv closely correlated to what we're looking for. I'm on him in a second if he happens to get traded; just a lot of hand-wringing now in that situation it seems to me.

When do you think Toronto calls up Gabriel Moreno?
Brent Hershey
12:20
Never can tell, as it's just as often around some other context than if he's 'ready' (injury, other need, etc). I'd say sometime this year, but any answer closer to that is just a guess, as it is for any analyst outside of the TOR front office.
Excited for when that happens for sure ... just that predicting it is nothing more than a guess.

Utility spot open (hitter or pitcher), NL only, 5x5,  some options Hummel,Demerette, Robles, O. Herera, Slater, Ahmed, Kim or  Helsey as a plan B closer with skills.
Brent Hershey
12:22
Some good options that are probably best made by your roster or category needs. Herrera, Robles (baby steps this past week), Kim if it's hitting ... def could see a Helsley flyer as well.

12-Team AL-Only.  Considering pickups for Haniger and possible K.Smith insurance.  I have position flexibility, so 3B or OF eligible would work. Currently rolling with Olivares, Engel, and J. Lowe (just sent down) as my bats, but now starting.  Is it worth it to pick up Paredes or T. Nevin?  Anyone else? ($200 FAAB league, but $10 min FAAB bids... it's brutal).  Make a move, or sit tight?
Brent Hershey
12:24
I'm interested in Nevin in a deep AL-only, esp w/ the DFA of Gutierrez this morning. Opportunity at 3B there; could be a solid under  the radar pickup

Long-time BBHQ readers know of founder Ron Shandler's mantra -- practice excruciating patience. This year is certainly testing that with so many hitters with slow starts. I'm in an AL-only league and wondering your thoughts on which of these hittings with sub-200 batting averages are most likely to improve and most likely to have a lost season - Dalbec, Franmil Reyes, Garver, Winker, Seth Brown. Thanks.
Brent Hershey
12:27
Reminder: This. Happens. Every. Year. :-) Part of the game; part of the fun (at least to me).
Most likely to improve: Winker, Franmil, Garver -- no coincidentally, the three with the best track records. Still interested in holding Brown/Dalbec where I can ... but if you've got this whole quintet, I'd think you could move on from Brown and/or Dalbec. Although ... depending what your waiver wire choices are, maybe you have to keep em and just hope.

Hi Brent, do I start Montero this week. Looking for saves only, and have choice of Montero or Rainey.
Brent Hershey
12:29
You're asking the guy who rostered Pressly last week, figuring he would be back at some point. :-) I'd probably go Rainey, though, since there are a couple choices in HOU, as well as a chance Pressly gets back. Think TR gives you the best shot at Svs this week, even with the quality-of-team discrepancy.

Thanks for the chat. I’m in a 9-team 5x5 mixed league with a struggling offense. Now that we have a month of baseball under our belt, how much longer should I wait for Bobby Dalbec and Kike Hernandez to start hitting? Should I replace them now or wait a little longer for them turn it around?
Brent Hershey
12:31
Exhibit A of Context matters! In a 9-team mixed league, you should def move on, watch em from afar, and maybe even be ready to pounce back once they start hitting again. Or not, depending on your situation.

Hi, Brent! I'm contemplating making a MAJOR trade for Austin Riley in my 12-team dynasty league. I'd be giving up Teoscar in the process.

Are you as convinced as I am that Riley will be a bonafide stud of the next 5+ years?

Thank you for your help!
Brent Hershey
12:34
Bonafide stud? I'm not there yet. BUT ... he's a good hitter, great surrounding lineup, super young, and at a shallow position right now. Think that outline of a trade makes sense; I'd rather have the 3B than the OF, even though I'm a huge Teoscar fan. Good luck!

Goooooood morrrrrniiiing, HQ-ers!

Just one quick question, Brent! How would you rank these 3 starters for the next 3 seasons?

Tarik Skubal
Logan Gilbert
Roansy Contreras

Mucho gracias!
Brent Hershey
12:36
Like all three, but that rank, in that time frame, looks right to me.
Mike
12:38
Freddy Peralta looks to be back on track. Thinking of starting him vs. Cincinnati over Kyle Wright vs. Mets. Better rating on HQ pitcher matchup. Thoughts?
Brent Hershey
12:38
Not going to go against our Matchup ratings (at least in public; lol). But yes, that CIN offense is rough and Freddy should take advantage.

Hi! 10-team H2H category w daily pickups… have Brash at back of a struggling Morton & E- Rod, Houck, Megill, Montgomery, Whitlock, Sandoval, Skubal rotation. With no big K% #1, thinking of dropping Brash for Keenan Thompson’s Ks and ratios as middle reliever (already have Michael King). Thoughts?
Brent Hershey
12:42
First glance, this strikes me as odd (rostering a middle reliever, even ones as good as Thompson/King). But seems like league is catching up to Brash a bit; and more safety in KT's ratios for sure. I'd say give it a whirl.

12:45
Pick 2 SPs for this week: 2x start Charlie Morton vs ATL and vs MIL, Megill vs ATL, Wright vs NYM?
Brent Hershey
12:45
Megill + Wright, even at the expense of an extra shot at a win. High K duo should come close to Morton for 2 + trying to pick the other. Want to see more from Morton

12 Team AL Only keeper league; traditional 5X5.  For this season only, please provide your out look for MJ Melendez and Jose Miranda now that both have been recalled.  Thanks
Brent Hershey
12:50
Miranda the overall better hitter, but not convinced he's got the same long-term opportunity as MJM. If Miranda hits the ground running -- yes, but if he doesn't, the Twins' other mixable parts, plus return of Sano and Kirilloff could make it that he gets squeezed out. MJM, on the other hand, could be up to stay, since I think they'll give him both backup CA at bats and some DHing. (Weirdly, Mondesi injury helps him in this -- if he hits better than Isbel + Olivares.)
But ... nothing set in stone; MJM going to hit for power but likely struggle some with contact/BA at least to start. Hope that helps.

AL only 4X4. Please rank these hitters in order. Neuse, Taylor Ward,Josh Naylor, Kyle Lewis, Mateo,Owen Miller, Melendez.
Brent Hershey
12:52
Rest of season: Ward, Naylor, Mateo ... gap ... Miller, Nuese, Lewis, Melendez. If steals a big need, though, Mateo could go as high as first.
Brent Hershey
12:53
Whew! Still coming. Will do my best to fire through a bunch yet.

5x5 NL only, OBP instead or AVG, 10 team, keeper league. Need to pick up a hitter and have the flexibility to add any position in utility. Player pool is thin. Really need power that won't kill my OBP. From these players which do you think will preform better. Odubel Herrera, Michael Chavis, Travis Demeritte or Ben Gamel?
Brent Hershey
12:53
Herrera, then Gamel
