  1. Suwinski
  2. Even with yesterday's outing, yes to Suarez. I might lean Falter over Matz for the second, though it's close.

After a month of data, does it seem to you that pitching is more of in demand than hitting right now? In a vacuum, would you be looking to trade bats for arms right now?
Brent Hershey
12:58
Yes; it sure seems like the pitching-line blowups are happening more frequently here in the first four weeks. The tricky thing about trading for arms is the volatility ... "safe" pitchers have gotten blown up, and questionable starters come out of nowhere with awesome games (Jose Suarez yesterday, for example). So it really just seems like roulette out there.

Thoughts on the 2nd Logan Allen start?
Brent Hershey
12:59
Loved that they left him out there for 100+ pitches. Not very good conditions, did well.

OK, lightning round!

Brent, thoughts about what will happen with Jake Burger when Moncada returns?  Thanks
Brent Hershey
1:00
He's playing himself into some sort of spot. Both he and Moncada have dabbled at 2B before ... could that be relevant? (Pure speculation on my part)

Any thoughts on the Cub's Suzuki for the rest of the season?  Injury and now a slow start.
Brent Hershey

I have confidence he'll be fine. Lineup around him is better than anticipated; don't think his job is in jeopardy.

Best NL SP prospect besides Pfaadt to make impact this year?

Gavin Stone

Anything you can tell me about Louie Varland as far as expectations?
Brent Hershey

He's better than you realize; and the fact that he's on MIN  given their early results via SP; count me as interested.

More likely to make an impact this season - Evan Carter or Encarnacion Strand?

Carter

Do you put R Iglesias in your lineup this week or do you wait another week...its either him or C Schmidt? 15 team 8x8 (IP, W, SV, ERA, WHIP, K, K9,QS)
Brent Hershey

I'm starting him

Another one for a 5x5: Need one OF: Suwinski, Grichuk, McCutchen, Soler, Kepler, Conforto, or J. Duran.  Thanks.
Brent Hershey

Suwinski or Duran; dual threats

Hi! Gunner has been useless, so far and been using my super utility Donovan at 3B. With Justin Turner, Jung, Parades and currently red-hot Brandon Drury on the waiver wire, who do see as best 3B option until Henderson proves startable? Thanks
Brent Hershey
1:04
Jung, and my answer would have been the same before yesterday

Thanks, as always, for taking the time.

I'm in a 12 team H2H Points League with 6 pts for Wins and 7 pts for Quality Starts. My pitching has been great so far, but unless I can pull of a 2-for-1 trade today, I'll need to drop Bailey Ober or one of the following starters instead -- Gonsolin, Strahm, Garrett. Ugh.

Appreciate any thoughts you have on who should go.
Brent Hershey
1:06
Probably Strahm, as he could get moved to pen when Ranger returns. Or Garrett, given the non-support (wins-wise)

In a std. 5x5, would you replace Tovar with R. Castro, L. Garcia, Kim, Enrique H., or Ez. Duran?
Brent Hershey

Would ride Castro, might consider Duran or Garcia

NL only keeper, who has more value going forward, Nick Senzel or Blake Sabol?
Brent Hershey

Sabol; think he's in the midst of winning that SF CA job

Since my NL only league started in the early 80s, I have had great success over the years by getting a jump on emerging minor leaguers over other owners. Right now I have my eye on the Reds' MI options. Matt McLain looks like a sneaky good pre-emptive pick-up given his performance at AAA Louisville. He's been playing more SS lately, with De La Cruz at 3B. Rumor has it that McLain may have a future home at 2B. In the near term, do you see McLain getting a call up to either replace Barrero or supplant Newman as the MI utility guy? Thanks in advance for helping me defend my title!
Brent Hershey
1:08
Not in the near term, no. I think they'll run with Barrero for a while yet and not bring up McLain for a MIF role (would want him to start)

If MacKenzie Gore deals today, would he be a sell high candidate or are you buying into season long value?
Brent Hershey
1:10
Could go either way ... Nats are not going to be good for awhile; so he's going to have run support problems. If a good start + pedigree gets you a bundle, would not object to moving him for a more stable piece

Hi Brent, thanks for continuing these weekly lifelines. In AL-only 5x5 league. I held my nose and kept Jorge Mateo at a cheap price, despite lots of fantasy industry speculation that he would lose his job. Now he's off to a breakout start. What's different about him this year, and is it sustainable? Thanks.
Brent Hershey

Swing metrics and other adjustments indicate that it might be sustainable. Enjoy the windfall for now

Hi Brent,  Thanks as always for these chats.  I took a flyer on Mondesi in a very deep 5x5 league w/o an IL (i.e., he is an expensive hold for me) where I lack speed.  Do you think he plays right away? Do you think he hits hits his SB projection?
Brent Hershey
1:11
In your situation, I'd just hold I think given his potential explosiveness. Though role, and knee injury are the downsides for sure.

Deep NL only, 12-team. Who is the best FA pickup today, with an eye toward ROS value: Andujar, Slater, Velasquez, Emmanuel Rodriguez. Leaning towards Rodriguez, who may turn out to be a 2024 keeper in AZ.
Brent Hershey
1:13
Assuming you mean E Rivera (ARI 3B) ... but I'd lean Velasquez, who probably has a better chance of being a 2024 keeper
