Hey gang! Back at it; love that we can start to check out 2021 results with some semblance of confidence now. Queue is full ... let's go!

Hi Brent: In a HR and RBI centric weekly league, who is the best 1 week play at 1B to replace Cron: M. Ford, J. Choi, or M. Beaty? Who has the highest power/RBI upside for ROS? Bonus question: how many starts of at least 5IP does McClanahan make this year?
Brent Hershey
12:08
A) Ford; best mix of skills/opp/team context (though that's 3 rough choices for sure
B) Probably Choi, if you can live with the Rays lineup machinations ROS
C) Good one ... 6-8, maybe?? Rostering him for ratios on a per-inning basis, as wins will be few IMO if they keep him starting (dangerous assumption, probably)

Is Tommy Pham going to get it going sometime this season?
Brent Hershey
12:09
Softball question, as we tackled Pham in our NLWest notes column today (that's free for all): https://www.baseballhq.com/content/pt-tomorrow-nl-west-time-panic-pham
The skinny: skills are good, but playing time and speed uncertainties are a bit of a concern.

In a H2H league with avg and obp my 1B is Hoskins. Who should I target for an upgrade with top 20-40 SP? Goldschmidt, Olson, YGurriel? Would you go for someone else?
Brent Hershey
12:11
That's a good list; I'd pursue them in that order. Thought Hoskins had turned it around two weeks ago or so, but he still doesn't look right, timing-wise. And lack of walks—which are pertinent to you—is a problem.

Have $84 invested in Lindor and Conforto.  Any signs of life?  Over the last week both have improved BPI (BB, CT, Eye) over the last week, but have xba under .200.
Brent Hershey
12:15
Not much to do but hold; as some suggested I think there's some pitcher familiarity issues with Lindor's first trip around the NL. Don't see anything hugely concerning in Conforto's profile either. Once Mets get a couple guys clicking, things could well be fine.

Is there any hope for Eugenio Suarez? I've been patient waiting for the power to return but CT and Hct remain terrible. Same with Moustakas although he is still recovering from recent illness.
Brent Hershey
12:19
It's rough for sure on Suarez ... that K rate just continues to rise and his line drives continue to disappear. It can't be this bad all year, though, right? Maybe give it another couple of weeks -- just in case the move back to 3B helps some? Have more hope for a "normal" Moustakas rebound given his BHQ xBA.

Bench C.J. Cron (back) for Brandon Belt? Hate to miss out on a full week of Coors games, but don't want to get stuck with 0 if Cron is DL-bound.
Brent Hershey
12:20
Agreed on all counts ... think Belt is the better play here.
JS AL only
12:23
In an AL-only league searching for SB. Looks like Brett Phillips has been getting near-everyday playing time in TB. Do you see that kind of role continuing for hom?
Brent Hershey
12:23
It's the Rays, so ... <shrug>? The Kiermaier injury helps this line of thought, but even if it's just a short-term hot streak for Phillips, if you can handle some of the other warts, Phillips right now is a solid SB play. I would not invest in this continuing long-term.

Hey hey all! Nice to be with everyone this morning.

Brent, I saw that Alek Manoah was mentioned on the forums this past week. He had an impressive first start in AAA. Considering all the factors (stellar ST performance, TOR pitching woes, playoff aspirations, etc.), how quickly do we see this kid get a shot? Are you a fan?
Brent Hershey
12:25
I think a 2021 debut is a possibility, but given everything you mention, still seems like they'd let him shove in AAA (if that what he continues to do) for a while yet. But certainly a player that has popped up on radars for 2021 in the past several months. I hope to line up to see a live start of his here in the early going.

Big Rays fan here!! Hard not to be excited about what Vidal Brujan's doing right now. 5 HR in his first 5 games, 2 from the left-side and 3 from the right! *IF 20 HR seasons are possible .. with his speed, just how valuable will this guy be?? I saw someone compare him to Albies. TB could sure use that talent now.
Brent Hershey
12:28
Think you're right to be excited for sure. Albies could be a fair comparison from a stat line expectation perspective. Once in the majors, think Brujan rotates between IF and and OF some, playing a lot but being versatile. Could also well debut before Wander does. For that reason, Brujan could be overlooked some as far as fantasy impact, though not if he keeps this pace up. Fun player, and should impact fantasy rosters fairly soon.

Hey ya! My 3 middle IF are Swanson, Didi and Segura.. who sits? (if it matters I'm first in HR, 3rd in BA and 7th in SB) Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:29
Right now, Didi sits. But you prob should revisit every week.

Sell high on Glasgow or ride it out?
Brent Hershey
12:30
Ride it out. Could end before September, but will be enjoyable.

Is John Means for real?  Especially pitching in Baltimore and facing the AL East hitters all year long?
Brent Hershey
12:31
Yup, I'm in. Not that he won't regress, but the "pitchers" mentality and ability to keep guys off balance with command and mix will keep him relevant. And the small velo bump is nice, too.

12:35
Every year Paul Goldschmidt starts off slowly but eventually gets to his usual stats by the end of the year.  Will this year be any different, or is he gaining speed heading down the hill towards mediocrity (or worse!)
Brent Hershey
12:35
Overall I think he'll be fine, however ... I'd keep an eye on his walk rate, that's a big difference so far. If he's becoming less selective now, then perhaps we're starting to experience the beginning of the descent. Raw power is waning a bit, too (our expected power metric) but still lots of time to self-correct.

Would you say bench bats or SPs are more valuable in a H2H daily lineup (no max IP)? Most managers are keeping SPs on the bench and I'm wondering if that's the most productive use of bench spots. With bench bats, you can use them to fill in on Mon/Thurs mostly when there are less games being played and also when the studs get a breather. However I too think that it's extremely difficult to decide between 2 borderline 2 close bats compared to start/sit decision for a SP so I end up leaning SP heavy. Consequently, I value SPs higher vs. most valuations available online. Sorry for the long question but I'd love to hear your take. Thanks.
Brent Hershey
12:39
Great question ... think it's a mix between what you feel your strengths are (roster/selecting bats vs. SP) and what's available to you in the FA pool (partially based on your league mates' tendencies) as well as zigging when others are zagging. Firm believer that there's no ONE way to win, so I try not to get caught up in "trends" to that effect. Your process seems sound -- and the fact that it's  long season (this year) allows you to shift lanes when you need to. Good luck!

Howdy, Brent! Quick minor league question.

How would you rank Jordan Groshans, Triston Casas, and Austin Martin for dynasty leagues?

Looking to target 1 or 2!
Brent Hershey
12:41
Martin (hit tool, likely positional flexibility at MLB level), Groshans (left side of IF edge), Casas (like a lot, but profile more easily found). All great prospects.

12:42
Hello, Brent. I just wanted to should to the world, "I love Kendall Graveman!!!" Are you completely on the bandwagon or what??
Brent Hershey
12:42
You just did! And yes, I happened to see an early pre-closer outing of his and was amazed, given what I knew of him previously. Am on board, as much as one can be for closers. Great story

Clint Frazier, Dylan Moore, Miles Straw.  Is it time to cut bait on these under achievers or do they deserve a few more weeks?
Brent Hershey
12:43
All depends on the alternatives. My cut rankings (most likely to go first): Moore, Frazier, Straw
Chris
12:44
How good can Willie Calhoun be? Sounds like he is going to be playing most days and leading off vs righties.
Brent Hershey
12:44
Healthy, has a very nice hit and power tools. Should have pop without a huge BA minus.
Shane
12:46
I read an article about Luis Garcia that peaked my interest. He seems to have some legit swing and miss stuff. Thoughts?
Brent Hershey
12:46
Cautiously optimistic. Still gives up too many FB and thus HR, but good situation in HOU as far as opportunity and solid K rates so far. Has the stuff to develop into solid SP
Corey
12:47
I stashed Tony Gonsolin in a league where I'm desperate for pitching. If he can stay healthy, do you like him ROS?
