Greetings, Monday chatters! The queue is full, I’ve got the next hour-plus, so let’s get to it. Reminder for those still posting — a brief context summary matters and will help get your question answered. Let’s go ….
Bo Naylor (CLE)
12:02
Given that catchers develop slower, what's my reasonable upside for 2024?
Brent Hershey
12:02
Mid-range fantasy backstop, so #10-20-ish in MLB if all goes well. Some power, unlikely to go crazy in first full season. Upside for more in 2025 and beyond.
J. Gage
12:04
Near impossible to know but what's your best guess on Liam Hendricks' saves qty at year end?  Odds he's traded as part of Chi Sox re-build?
Brent Hershey
12:04
Odds he's traded: Got to think that's, as you say, near impossible. Just given the narrative behind his amazing recovery, etc. Maybe I'm wrong; just don't see it.
Saves ROS: in the 18-22 range.

Morning. 5x5 AL Roto. Waiting on Royce Lewis to come. How good will he be?
Brent Hershey
12:09
Tough ... really seemed like the switch had flipped for him in his brief 2022 time. But this is a second major injury. I'm still hopeful, in part because it seems MIN has opened up the 3B job for him and those hitting adjustments he made the last time we saw him were exciting. Given the 3B pool, is it crazy to think that with health, he's a Top-5 AL performer at that position come next March?

Austin Nola is killing my BA.  Shall I drop him for Campusano, or is Nola going to come near to projections for ROS?  If he continues with his malaise, wouldn't I be better off slotting in someone with zero stats for 2 months than Nola?
Brent Hershey
12:11
It's a conundrum for sure ... I gravitate towards never just taking a zero if I don't have to, so my gut says no, stay with Nola if these are the only two choices. But there's no doubt Nola has been horribly disappointing -- even off of mediocre expectations.

Considering Zach Neto was called up earlier than expected, he seems to be holding his own. Do you think long-term he has enough upside to be a top 12 shortstop?
Brent Hershey
12:15
In all of MLB? Shortstop is so deep and so littered with superstars, no, I don't think Neto gets there. Just doesn't have the same raw roto skills of the folks like Wander / Turner / O. Cruz / Bichette etc clan. Nice player, definitely a solid debut and foundation, should be there and contribute for a long time, but right now I don't see a superstar upside.

Hi Brent, NL only 5x5- can you rank  top 3 of each for pickup : hitters-
Matt McLain ,Michael togglia ,Santana Pitt,Vientos,T Taylor,Wendle,Moustakas       Pitchers- stone, Miller dodgers,,grove, libatore.  Thank you
Brent Hershey
12:19
via rest of season:
Hit: McLain, Taylor, Santana (stable/known PT for all; go Toglia or Vientos as #3 if you want to take a swing)
Pit: Miller, Liberatore, Stone
Thomas
12:23
Hi Brent!  Thoughts on Bobby Miller and Matthew Liberatores changes of staying up in the majors?  I have both on my NL only roto team.
Brent Hershey
12:23
From the outside, sure seems like both should stick and are improvements over those teams' other options. But we know that's not how it always works.  I believe between the two, that Liberatore is more likely to get more starts the rest of the way, but Miller's stuff, potential fantasy impact and long-term prognosis is much better. It's no doubt tricky; hope that helps. Nice to have em both!

12:29
I've got a roster spot that I need to upgrade in NL 5X5. I've picked up Joey Wiemer, but fearful that he may not have the contact skills to stick. Do you see improvement coming, or should I look elsewhere in a deep league with limited options?
Brent Hershey
12:29
You've encapsulated the issue here. The raw secondary skills (that likely result in HR/SB) are present, but swing/miss is the crux of it. Skills have really cratered in May ... but he's playing every single day (42 of 46 G). And he's been MIL's CFer with Mitchell out, which is going to continue for as long as MIL can stomach it. In an NL-only, you might have to just play it out and hope he adjusts back to the league.
Ron
12:30
In a H2H points redraft league, heavily weighted towards wins. At this point should I cut bait with Taillon and pick up Gavin stone?
Brent Hershey
12:30
Yeah, might do that, esp if you're "chasing" wins. The downside is Taillon's spot in the rotation might be more stable right now. But maybe you cross that bridge (if Stone gets sent down) when you come to it.
Ron
12:31
Quick one for you, Brent. Who has more impact ROS in 5x5, Grichuk or Naylor (CLE)?
Brent Hershey
12:31
Naylor.
Jerry P
12:32
pick two for this coming week please...M Vientos, M McLain and I Paredes   Thank you!
Brent Hershey
12:32
McLain and Paredes, only partially due to more stable playing time.

Michael Harris's issues are mainly about hit rate and possible lingering issues from the back problem, right?  I mean, part of it is regression, but no way he should be this bad.
Brent Hershey
12:34
Yeah, would have to agree as many underlying metrics are similar to 2022. BUT ... big caveat ... if it's mainly the lingering back issue, then it's hard to see where playing through it is going provide the fantasy returns we need. It'd keep an eye on watching for any health-related updates here, just in case.

Have too many starters in my AL only 5x5.  Which of these three would you jettison:  Whitlock, Bello, Sears?  Thanks in advance.
Brent Hershey
12:35
Bello's a keep, no doubt. I'd probably cut Sears, who I like, but that surrounding team context is ... not good.
Beano
12:42
NL 10 team 5x5 I have 4 closers: floro, harvey, diaz & castro. I just got offered Encarnacion-strand & a horrible Manaea for either floro $3 or Diaz (end of contract) and $1 pavin smith.
What do you think of that?
Brent Hershey
12:42
I think with all those CL options, I'd be shopping for a better deal. And maybe this is the result (IE, the best you've got). But I wouldn't be tied down to any of these four; the volume you have here lets you be pretty flexible.
But back to your specific question: If it's 1) Floro OR 2)Diaz and Smith, then I choose 1)
If it's 1) Floro and Smith or 2) Diaz and Smith, then I probably pass on both.
Hope that helps.

Baty on a nice hot streak and moving on up in the lineup as it seems he is gaining Uncle Buck’s trust. Would you drop any of the following to grab him: Soler, Wade Jr., Mateo, Vinnie P., S. Suzuki? (5x5 OBP keeper)
Brent Hershey
12:44
This is one where number of teams in the league would help ... but will say I'd prefer Baty > Wade Jr and MAYBE Mateo with the info presented.

12:45
For rest of year 4x4 keeper league ... Bello vs Grayson..Belt vs Gallo..Polanco vs Massey..King vs Holmes. thank you
Brent Hershey
12:45
Grayson / Gallo / Polanco / Holmes

12:46
Thx Brent! Gavin Stone or Bobby Miller ROS?
Brent Hershey
12:46
Miller on upside ... but ROS usage for both is a real thing. Perhaps you can talk to them, Tommy. :-)

Brent, BBHQ Subscriber, any thoughts on Andres Gimenez. I picked him up last year in various keeper leagues. Is his reality a little pop, SB in the teens, and a low BA? What say you? Also very appreciative of your time and efforts in these chats. I look forward to them. Thank you
Brent Hershey
12:50
Think you hold. Gains in contact (striking out less), some of this is BABIP that should regress positively, and with 7 SB already, he's headed for the 20s. We may well look back on 2022 as his power peak, but sure would help if some of the rest of CLE would hit some more. But yeah, expectations adjustment time with Giménez it would seem.

5x5 league, this week who gets more ABs; Clint Frazier or Nate Eaton?
Brent Hershey
12:52
I'd say Eaton. Still a bit wary of where/how Frazier fits in.

Hi, Brent! I love this column. Thanks for doing it every Monday.

I'm curious to know your opinion on Owen Miller; he's been on fire. He's still young (26) and appears to be demonstrating some skill gains (CT%, XPX, XBA). He's also stolen 4 bases already this season after stealing only 2 in 472 PA last year.

Are you intrigued?
