Good Monday, all! A heavy queue so far, so let's hop to it! Reminder for those still to post ... brief context (# of teams, lg specifics) helps out a bunch w/ roster questions. Thanks!

In AL-only Roto league. Should I be worried about Anthony Rendon? Both hard-hit and xPX are below 100. Yes, he’s been dinged up, but your analysis? Thanks.
Brent Hershey
12:04
No, still early; he's missed time and yes maybe the injury is lingering. But track record is too good to drop at his point. I'd hold.

I would love your thoughts on A Gomber, C Poteet & Corbin  Martin. Should I get them? Play them?
Brent Hershey
12:09
Preference to roster and confidence in starting them: Martin/ Gomber/ Poteet. Still won't consider Gomber at home, and Poteet's pitch mix is intriguing, but obv lack of any track record a drawback.

Hi Brent,  what do you think is wrong with Eddie Rosario? Is a hidden injury sapping his power? Would you get out now? Also what do you think of Tucker Davidson's chance to stick and make hay in the ATL rotation?
Brent Hershey
12:14
Not being able to maintain his gains in strikeout rate over the past two years, plus a more GB/less FB profile is hurting Rosario. Could be hidden injury ... but like with Rendon, I'm holding b/c of track record. Davidson's likely an up-and-down guy for now, tho in the mix if a starter goes down to injury (side glance to Smyly).

12-team roto standard except OBP and sv+hld. Lost Trout and now F. Reyes, slumping in HR. Potential adds: Naquin, Avisail Garcia, Kepler, J. Upton, T. O'Neill, Bader, Luplow.  Would need to drop  L. Gurriel, Austin Nola (but kinda valuable with C/1B/2B elig.), or...F. Reyes. Thoughts?
Brent Hershey
12:18
I'd lean Garcia; like O'Neill before he got hurt, and Naquin if he was assured PT (don't think he is long-term). Prob OK to drop Gurriel in a league like this

Deep NL only keeper league, 5 man reserve, who do you drop first, Moniak or Kingery?
Brent Hershey
12:20
Moniak... but know that I just can't quit Kingery (saw him sting the ball throughout his minors career).
Jeremy Gibbs
12:23
Do we trust Logan Gilbert this week?  Gilbert, Cease, or Alzolay?  (15-team 5x5 roto league with weekly lineups)  Thanks.
Brent Hershey
12:23
Our ratings say start vTEX will be positive ... but not impressed with what I've seen so far. Cease a much better choice of those three this week.

What has happened to Eddie Rosario?  All aspects of his hit game have disappeared.  He was one of the Forecaster (UP-40hr) speculations.  Here he sits at 3 HR and close to the Mendoza line. Is there hope that he will actually preform to his rest of season projections on BBHQ PLAYER LINK?  23-79-7-.270.
Brent Hershey
12:25
Addressed above ... but yes, feel your pain, as I've got him rostered several places due to HQ's projections. Still time to rebound; the power in his past says the Plink is still reasonable.

Hey, who would you cut from Bader, Ian Happ, Carlson, Gonsolin, Cease, McClanahan for Carson Kelly or another fascinating add? 12tm mixed h2h 6x6 avg, obp, k/bb league. Daily lineup so SPs get some extra value. (listed from least to most like fyi)
Brent Hershey
12:27
Agreed; Bader seems like the best cut here, and yes Kelly should be rostered even in this format.

What do you think about punting catcher or saves in H2H? Is it a viable strategy or not so much. I don't see a lot of h2h strategies around the net :(
Brent Hershey
12:29
Given the state closers and teams spreading saves out, I think it's totally viable to punt that category and be successful. For punting a whole position like C, would need more league details.

Hi Brent,...My team recently lost its 4 point lead in a 12 team 5x5 standard Roto, with 13 batters, 9 pitchers, 5 bench and 2 IL slots....I'll provide my team's players, and ask: please advise me of a general direction to proceed (or to stand pat). If that's too much for this forum, I'll narrow this request down to "which are the players I should be dropping to pick up likely waiver wire attributes who will contribute more?" ...C-Smith (LAD)...1B- Hoskins...2B- Lowe...3B- J. Turner...SS- Anderson...2B/SS- Suarez...1B-3B- Y. Gurriel....OF- Judge, Rosario, Winker, Yasztremski, C. Taylor...UT- Cruz....Bench- L.Gurriel Jr, Wander Franco....IL- Buxton (could be the reason I've lost the lead) ...SP- Giolito, Glasnow, Musgrove, Means, Eflin... RP- Diaz, Karinchak, Diekman, Trevor May, Loaisiga, Kopech, Whitlock,... IL- Elieser Hernandez.......Like I said, this may not be the right place for such a large question; in which case I apologize, and narrow it to "who should I replace with what?...THANK YOU!
Brent Hershey
12:36
Looks really solid from here for a 12-teamer. I wouldn't overreact  at this point to losing the lead; we've still got over 2/3ds of the season to play. Might be able to strengthen your bench and move on from L Gurriel in a 12 esp since you're hanging on to Wander, and maybe you trim one of the bullpen reserves for another hitter (depth; maybe then bench Rosario until he turns it around some?). But I wouldn't do any major surgery right now for sure.

Been hanging on to Trevor Rosenthal in a keep-all dynasty, but injuries are mounting up. Will I regret cutting him for a piece that can help now?
Brent Hershey
12:37
Just moved on from Rosenthal myself in a dynasty this week for the same reason. Perfect world; I'd love to keep and see on him but ... ain't a perfect world.

Hi Brent; thanks for chatting. What are your expectations ROS for David Peterson?  K-BB% is excellent, xFIP, SIERA, and BHQ xERA all very good, but Statcast xERA is 5.10 and Statcast page is full of blue, with lots of hard contact allowed. Is he worth rostering in a 12-team mixed league?  Would you choose him over DeSclafani?
Brent Hershey
12:39
I'm intrigued on Peterson, as I know our BHQ system likes him some. Best usage now is somewhere where can spot-start him and have in reserve if need be. Prob like DeSclafani a bit more (tho similar spot-starts in a 12-tm), unless yesterday's debacle becomes more frequent.

Good morning, everyone! Brent, I've rostered Daulton Varsho on my dynasty team for quite some time. What's his deal? I thought this guy could hit? I'm running out of patience ...

Should I be?

Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:41
I'd hold Varsho, best case in reserve, in a dynasty format. Yes, he can hit, but it's still early in his career. What we might have gained from filling in for Kelly at C the past couple weeks might have taken away from his hitting? Still young, talented. Could well get more opps on that team as year progresses.

I don't understand the Flahert fascination. His K-BB% is far from elite, he's got a career 3 BB/9, doesn't get elite K's/whiffs, doesn't induce GB, gives up hard contact/plenty of HR, and is mostly a 2 pitch pitcher without elite velo/spin rate. Seems like he's riding an elite 2H 2019 that was mostly luck driven, and this year just has low babip and hr/fb so far that xfip/sierra/xera see right through. What am I missing?
Brent Hershey
12:45
Yep, would agree he's pitching over his head right now. K rate down, getting some HR/F luck, which will be bad when it corrects if his FB% remains this high. Might have enough hype to move him in a trade if the opportunity presents itself.

What's your best guess on activating Bellinger for the week? League (5x5) has weekly moves; would drop C. Santana.  After watching Tatis & Torres tear it up last week, I'm tempted to do it.
Brent Hershey
12:50
Since this injury has kinda drug out from the start, and the earliest mentioned was Fri/Sat for a return, I'm waiting until next week in the leagues where I have him rostered. I guess in the possible situation where my replacement/drop/standings situation says that I'm not going to lose much if he has a set back this week, then I'd give it a go. But he's been off for quite a while, and those Tatis/Torres examples were COVID related, not a body-part injury. That's my best guess.

Brent, I have to admit that I have a man-crush on Alek Manoah. Are we going to see him starting for Toronto by mid-June? My heart says yes.
Brent Hershey

Assuming he continues to shove at triple-A, that timeframe seems about right.

Ugh, Monday! Thank goodness for this column, lol.

Brent, between Vidal Brujan and Wander Franco, which player has the greatest chance to take the league by storm this season?

Vidal's speed/power combo, with his position flexibility, seems to have the potential to be VERY valuable.

Also, bonus question! Any thoughts on Taylor Walls?

Thank you!! =)
Brent Hershey
12:53
Still think Wander has a better chance to 'take the league by storm' just due to otherworldly skill set. Brujan could be up sooner, and yes, could well have more fantasy value, but Wander still has the better shot at an explosive season. Walls can hit some, but mainly up for his defense. Appreciate the kind thoughts, even on a Monday!

Hi Brent, what do you think of Hasse maintaining productive regular playing time in DET?  Leaning towards dumping Higgy in favor of Haase  as backup for Ramos in a deep points league.
Brent Hershey
12:55
Haase could out-produce Higgy, yes, over ROS. Our reports and Hasse's track record is skeptical he can keep up this pace ... but agree that it's tempting in DET given that if he hits, they'll find a place to play him. Prob pretty even odds on Higgy v Haase ROS; either could come through.

I am in a standard rotis AL 5x5 league - Who has best rest of season between Franchy Cordero, Taylor Ward and Victor Reyes. From a general at bat and productivity standpoint-how would you rank the 3 mentioned OF's above? Thanks for your assistance.
Brent Hershey
1:01
I'd rank them in the order you have them; though if you want to flop Franchy and Ward I wouldn't argue strongly. Cordero's HR yesterday is what keeps us coming back; the hard-hit skill is there, it's just keeping it unlocked. With Ward, I wonder if the opportunity is short-term given their roster ... at some point, you'll have Trout, as well as Adell/Marsh to find AB for. Walsh is established, Rendon is not moving, etc. Reyes would find time in DER if he hit, but ...

Will try to blast through the rest quickly here ...
