Happy Memorial Day! Will need to stop right at 1p, but will try to get through as many Qs as possible, so let's not dilly-dally...

Brent, appreciate your insight. AL only, 9 teams. 5x5 W, Era, Whip, K and Saves.  FA starters at this time are very limited. And not worthy of picking up.
I have Valdez, Kirby, Mc Clanahan, Castillo, Jax, Burrows, G. Taylor, Cade Smith and Louis Varland. Matt Brash is off the DL. Should I activate and drop either Burrows or Castillo? FA starters are nowhere worth picking up. My ERA and Whip need help and I feel like chasing wins isn't worth it. Unless you think my pitchers will get better and hold tight? Thank you!!
Brent Hershey
12:04
I'd activate Brash and cut Castillo loose.

Happy Memorial Day Brent! Thanks for these excellent chats. NL 10 team 5x5. I need a starter or two. An owner is dangling $10 A Painter (that's the salary once a minor leaguer is activated). He wants my $6 J Steele and J Ortiz as a throw in. Has Painter shown enough to justify trading for him? I think, because he needs to make room for C Scott & J Jones that I could get Painter on FAAB next week! Would you do a deal like that?
Brent Hershey
12:05
I'd make that trade. Painter still learning, but pedigree and recent steps forward have me intrigued.

hi Brent--  not sure what to do with TJ Friedl. drop him for Triolo, Dunn, Troy, H Hernandez? if so, in what order?
Brent Hershey
12:07
I'd hold for now given those choices. Dunn would be the closest.

Is Travis Bazzana just experiencing a hot streak soon to come down to earth?  Your ROS projections for him are quite bleak. (6-28-11-.221) compared to his accumulated totals in 100 plate appearances thus far. Thanks
Brent Hershey
12:08
Both. He IS in the midst of a streak and will cool off, but personally I'd take the over on that ROS projection.

About a third of the season is done. Which minor league player makes the biggest jump in the top 100 standings? Also is Jhostynxon Garcia up for good? Thanks.
Brent Hershey

If you're a subscriber, Chris Blessing's article a few weeks back on Eric Hartman (ATL) was eye-opening. I tend to think yes on Garcia, though not sure if PIT will have enough AB for both him an E Valdez

Has Chase Burns moved into Ace status? Has Logan Gilbert dropped from that designation? Thanks
Brent Hershey
12:13
Tentative yes to Burns, depending on your definition - some would say that only comes after a player proves it for a whole year. Gilbert ... not for me yet, though some of the steps back are concerning.

In an NL 5x5 league, how would you rank the hitters now available: E Valdez, J Garcia, B Torres, K Alcantara, P Ramirez, S Thompson , T Troy -- also out there are A Del Castillo, J Triolo and E white
Brent Hershey
12:13
Garcia, Valdez, Alcantara, Ramirez would be my top four

Hi Brent,
Rick
12:14
Do you think Esmerlyn Valdez will develop into a full time player and eventually take over First Base from Horwitz or do you see him as a part-time platoon type player? Thank You
Brent Hershey
12:14
The latter right now, but this is also the time for him to change minds.

Nolan Schanuel is still only 24 years old. Have you seen enough growth to lead you to believe he can increase his power and reach 20+ homeruns on a regular basis or is his ceiling 10-15 Homeruns?
Brent Hershey
12:16
Rough go for him currently ... but saw enough in spring and he still have the youth you mentioned that I think he can get to 20+. This is a good reminder (to myself, too) to stay "on" hit-tool first guys who come up early. There are times when that pop manifests itself over time. That said, starting to question whether 2026 will be that year for him, or if we have to wait.

Have you had a chance to check out Rome OF E.Hartman ATL?  Not a lot of detailed metrics available to public from this league but 19 yrs HiA w/ 181 PA .302/.384/.623 13HR 16SB 23K%... Maybe a smallish sample size but looks like Acuna's replacement in CF if his trends continue.  Is he close to getting a BHQ review in ATL org report? Also, would Rome or its league be considered a hitter's or pitchers' park/league?
Brent Hershey

Shoulda linked this to my point above ... covered Hartman last weekend on the site : https://www.baseballhq.com/articles/scouting/the-eyes-have-it/eric-har...

Brent - I keep hearing how Tatis is good under the hood but he still has zero homers and I'm going to sit him at home today.  Are you hopeful for a turnaround?
Brent Hershey
12:20
History tells us yes on the turnaround ... but also that given where we are in the calendar, his end of season statline will be well short of expectations. Given the under the hood stuff, I still have a hard time sitting him (though I join in your frustration, believe me).

hi Brent, my team has so many injuries right now that I have to play either w castro or j jung, both are day to day. Which one will probably play the most this week?
Brent Hershey
12:22
I'd pick Jung, more because he's been so much better when on the field this year. Although if you're sure one or the other is sitting today, that would also make my decision (assuming BOTH are not out)

15-team mixed points league that counts holds. Would you cut Seranthony for any of Senzatela, Megill or Estrada? Thanks.
Brent Hershey
12:23
No ... but I'd be watching this week's usage/results for Seranthony closely

Time to trade Tatis?…..
Brent Hershey
12:25
Not likely what you want to hear, but depends what the return is. If someone thinks he's going to hit 30 HR between now and October, and is willing to pay for that, then maybe. If someone is trying to buy him for cents on the dollar, then no.

Hi Brent--Happy Memorial Day. What do you make of Matt McLain? It looked like he was heating up and then he goes stone cold again. Worth speculating or is he going to be like this all season?
Brent Hershey
12:25
Think it will be up and down, unfortunately. Was hopeful like you early in the season that he would be more reliable.

Hi Brent - Happy Memorial Day, thanks for giving us some of your family time.  I usually ask ROS questions but it's a holiday and I'm having a tough time deciding whether to start Brown vs Pitt and Bradish at home vs TB. Brown is slightly green in the Daily Matchup at BBHQ but Bradish is not. Thoughts?
Brent Hershey
12:27
I'd follow the Matchup scores on this one. Both offenses are tough.

Hey Brent: by the grace of God, I had Devin Williams on my bench yesterday in my 12 team mixed.  Some ugly numbers on the season.  Does he hold onto the job for the rest of the year?
Brent Hershey
12:28
Congrats on the benching. Would think it's likely at some point that he gets demoted from the role if/when the Mets continue to flail for a spark/answers to turning around the season.

Hi! Love your analysis! 12-tm H2H category w HD+S — regardless of position, short-term/ROS impact: Bleday, Steer, Marsee, Bohm? Better RP/SP (Ks & ratios): G Taylor, Drohan, Barlow? Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:30
I like your analysis, too! :-)

Hitters: Bleday, then pretty much the order you have them.
Pitchers: again, like the order you have, and Taylor clear #1.

Hi Brent,  I have a core SP group (Ryan, Eovaldi, Gausman, B. Miller and Tolle), but soon I will have to make a decision about the sixth and possibly a reserve option for a 6x6 Mixed Rotisserie 14 team league.  The options:           Grayson Rodriguez - recent return pretty awful, but is there some promise to give enough hope.          Ben Brown - stretching it out, looks like a possible breakout.                             Jared Jones - rehabbing        Chase Dollander - rehab, but looked pretty good early on.                              Also, could you rank these outfielders for ROS -  D Crews, J Bleday, H Bolte, J Dominguez.            Lastly, preference for holds ROS Clevinger or Thielbar?          Thanks
Brent Hershey
12:34
Rotation: Feel like B Miller is the only possible weak spot. Like Jared Jones the best and proably more than Miller; Brown kinda in the same range, but Grayson (and Dollander; at this point not worth the risk) a clear "out" for me until he shows us some consistent performance.
OF: Bleday, Crews, Bolte ... gap to Jasson
Holds: Cleavinger (TAM)
