Hi all, happy last-Friday-of-May. Running just a couple of minutes late due to some tech issues, but think we're good to go now. Let's get after it...

who takes over for Raisel Inglesias and when
Ray Murphy
12:07
Great leadoff question. I was trying to figure this out the other day and... it's not clear. As always, I try to answer these questions using our Bullpen indicators page. What I see there is that both Dylan Lee and Pierce Johnson are showing good skills and high Lev Index, so in theory they are the candidates. But the real takeaway here is that Raisel's skills are still better than both of those guys. There are concerns with him... velo is down, plus I was watching him the other night and ATL announcers said the real problem is his slider. But a 38% h% is a big part of the problem here. I think the answer to "when" is "not as soon as you might think".

4x4 AL only keepr ROS Clarke, cCase, Osuna thank you
Ray Murphy
12:11
I'm going to assume the last one is Jonathan Clase? I might try Osuna here, just because he's (small sample alert) making the MLB transition better than Clarke right now, and the power/speed combo can be impactful.

Thank you so much for doing these, Ray! Especially appreciate the Friday chat for those of us with Sunday night transaction deadlines.  What do you think of unheralded Otto Kemp, does he have a chance to play regularly for Phils in the 2d Half?  Next season? That 319/425/602 with 12 HR looks good, even though the BABIP will regress. And he's played a bit of OF and 1B recently.
Ray Murphy
12:12
You're way better off saving this question for Brent on Monday... the Venn Diagram of "Phils" and "prospects" is way closer to his wheelhouse than mine.
Leon
12:13
Does Edward Cabrera look like he is coming around? Good chance at <4.00 ERA ROS?
Ray Murphy
12:13
Yeah, I was just about ready to give up, and then he went and found his swing-and-miss again. Definitely playable right now, the bigger question than "<4.00" is how long he can stay healthy.

12:16
morning Ray do you think that Perkins [Ath] is up this year and how soon?
Ray Murphy
12:16
I'm not terribly familiar, but he's clearly had durability issues in last couple of years, then missed first month of this season. 23 IP in Vegas look pretty good so far, but that's his first Triple-A work, they probably want him to marinate there a little longer. Would think post-ASB callup a possibility... if he can stay healthy til then.

Hi Ray is it time to dump Hendricks [Boston]
Ray Murphy
12:17
Yeah, I thought coming into the year that Cora really wanted him to be the closer, but... he just hasn't been good enough. If you're fishing for saves, cast your line elsewhere.

Hi Ray, thanks for answering this question. 16 team H2H Points league.

Question #1: I have a number of options to fill my CI and UT positions. In order of my preference: Baty, Springer, Ramon Urias, IKF, Yainer Diaz, Bell, Tellez.

Help!

And, Thanks again.
Ray Murphy
12:17
Baty looks awesome right now, I think you have to ride him for the moment. And I still believe in Yainer. Prefer those two from this group.

12:20
hi Ray-- can you comment on Ryan Ritter?  Expectations for call up this year (when?) and ROS season and longer term? He's tearing up at AAA.
Ray Murphy
12:20
Again, prospect questions better for Brent on Mondays. Ritter is indeed raking in Triple-A, but a) it's Albuquerque, everyone rakes there, and b) middle infield is the one place where COL isn't dying for help... they've got Tovar entrenched at SS, seems like at 2B they're going to take the free look at Arcia while waiting for Thairo to come back. I'm not saying Arcia/Thairo are awesome, but if you were about to call up Ritter you don't sign Arcia.

It’s one thing to be in an almost one year slump, but to have 2/3 of season still in front of most disappointing team in 2025… does Adley rebound? The O’s locker room has to be a mess.
Ray Murphy
12:22
Adley is one of the most perplexing cases of this year for me. We thought maybe last year was the result of a foul tip, but now he's been in this funk for a solid year, as you say. His hard-hit metrics are actually quite good, bb% and ct% are holding up. I still think he gets going... but boy, it's frustrating, I get it.

Is it time to question Breislow the RedSox GM leadership? Trading Sale for Grissom, the botched handle of the Devers situation, $10MM for 2 years of  Liam, Campbell extension so soon, No Anthony yet, current last place in Division, Betting large $$ on Buehler, the evidence is stacking up… not pulling off a trade to remedy outfield surplus, or move Story…sorry, RedSox my favorite AL team, but he is mirroring inept KC of recent years past.
Ray Murphy
12:25
I give him a lot more rope than you do. First of all, there's absolutely nothing wrong with the Campbell extension. Anthony will be up imminently. Buehler's a one year deal, Hendriks $$ isn't consequential. He's stuck in a bit of a serving-two-masters mode at the moment. There's a lot to work with here, next step is fitting the pieces together. (Oh, and you conveniently didn't mention his best move, Crochet).

Any update on JBoyle?  I think I read that he is hurt?  If not, when promotion?
Ray Murphy
12:28
I stashed him a few weeks ago, thinking callup was imminent. He got pulled early from a start this week with diminished velocity, but I haven't seen an update yet. Rays are going to handle cautiously, that much we know.

Hi Ray,                                           I have to make a tough decision in a 6x6 mixed rotisserie league.  I have been able to stash some pitchers on the IL, but I have to activate or lose two pitchers.  Which two would you drop from Jobe, Pfaadt, Buehler, Ranger Suarez, Kershaw, Lodolo or Weathers.  Thanks.
Ray Murphy
12:30
I think I'd drop Kershaw and Pfaadt from that group. Check out the Fact/Fluke on Pfaadt this week. Some reasons for concern there. And you just know Kershaw's going to break down.
Dave
12:31
Quick question - My roster is pretty balanced in a rotisserie league.  Of the two corners back from demotion, but showing signs of improvement, who would you bet on ROS between Jake Burger and Matt Shaw?  Thanks
Ray Murphy
12:31
Like em both a lot for rest of year, would hate to dump either.

12:32
Time to cut bait on Nolan Jones
Ray Murphy
12:32
As always, the question is "for what?" But yes, I think it is. I don't see any real signs of life there.

SS carousel...... looking at waiver wire choices for a 12 team h2h points league: Pena, Swanson, Tovar, Willy Adams, Wynn...Choose a 1st and 2nd for ROS.  Thanks!
Ray Murphy
12:34
Pretty close between Swanson and Pena, I think those two are way ahead of the rest.
Jacob
12:36
Thank you so much for your help!  I'm in an NL-only keeper league and have a competitive team.  We only have 3 bench spots, and I have Mick Abel on my bench.  Does Abel come back soon to bolster my rotation, or should I drop Abel to pick up someone currently active (such as Kyle Harrison, Ryne Nelson, or Abner Uribe)?  A little extra context, for closers I have Pagan and Romano, and a recently demoted Walker.
Ray Murphy
12:36
Phils are aggressive with promotions, they could go right back to Abel when they have a need. But Andrew Painter is lurking too, no guarantee that Abel even gets the next shot. I'd grab someone currently active. Nelson looked great last outing...
Steve
12:37
Do you think Alcantara ever figures it out, or is he cooked?
Ray Murphy
12:37
Def not cooked... still too young (not yet 30), stuff too good. That said, he's basically unplayable in any format right now.
Jazz
12:38
Two interesting starts from Slade Cecconi. Any chance he's legit?
Ray Murphy
12:38
Sure. Let's not forget the Guardians are a very smart pitching dev org and they targeted him last winter, seemed clear they saw something in him, and it looks like they are drawing it out.
Brent
12:39
How impactful can Matt Shaw be rest of this season in a 12 team mixed, 5x5?
Ray Murphy
12:39
Very. Love the broad skill set, really seems like he figured stuff out in Triple-A. Remains to be seen whether the power comes out this year, but I think he has a lot of rope between now and trade deadline.
Beano
12:40
Thanks for these Ray! Question about Willy Adames. I know he had a career year last year but did he forget how to hit? how to run? He is simply awful so far. Any hope for better numbers?
