Yeah in a 12 I think it's a tough keep, though his OBA is not killing you in a non-BA league. Would def jump at Manzardo from that list instead of Muncy

Am I the best mascot in sports?  On to my fantasy squad...Is there anyone that would be not above 75% rostered in a 12 team league that could make a material impact.  Call ups / IR before season / underlying metrics but poor performance...someone like Kershaw, Aranda, Chandler, Jobe...etc
Brent Hershey
12:38
Of course you are (though anyone who know my location is no surprised one bit).

And you should roster Aranda. Starting to play against some lefties; could well be a full-timer soon. Kershaw might be in the convo, too.

12 team mixed OBP 5X5 H2H  On the hunt for 3B.  Do I grab Bohm, McMahon, Baez or McKinstry?  Generally, I've been losing OBP.
Brent Hershey
12:39
Bohm likely the best OBP and surrounding team could give him R + RBI opps the rest of the way.

Hi Brent - playing the long game with Nick Kurtz on a few of my teams.  Curious what you see under the hood and if there are signs that the power will develop this year?
Brent Hershey
12:44
Super early, but that 54% contact rate is getting papered over by a  very high BABIP. Surface stats say 'holding his own', though metrics disagree (.151 BHQ xBA). Long season, all depends if he makes it through the full year in the Show. Not sure I'm that optimistic for 2025.

12 team keeper 5x5 roto, QS instead of W's. Would you trade JJones or McClanahan for Kershaw or Buehler?
Brent Hershey
12:45
In a keeper, JJones is the best asset of those four IMO. I might trade McClan for one of those two, but both have warts. Have more confidence in Kershaw overall, though not sure he gets many QS's.

Misoirowski of Brewers or Z. Matthews for next 3 years? Is Misiorowski a bonifude closer candidate or SP IYO?
Brent Hershey
12:47
Matthews; as he's safer. If Mis goes to the bullpen, still many things have to happen before he becomes CL. And how much value does he bring you as a non-closing reliever? Mis could end up as a VG starter ... but so could Zebby w/o the several levels of risk.

NL only, keeper, 5x5, with OPS instead of average. Gabriel Moreno in last year of contract.  Can activate Agustin Ramirez to replace Moreno starting Ramirez on 3 year contract.or, can freeze Ramirez on farm until next year. Activate or freeze Ramirez?
Brent Hershey
12:48
Freeze. The payoff down the line is likely to be bigger.

Hi Brent!  Trey Sweeney has been red hot this week.  Do his underlying skills support above average performance in a 12 team HTH points league?
Brent Hershey
12:52
Pretty nice foundation so far; more contact than we expected. Wonder if he develops into a JP Crawford-like player - solid hit tool, low-teens HR, very little speed. Probably on the cusp of a 12-teamer? Maybe the contact works better in a points league.

With the William Contreras injury news, would you grab Ivan Herrera as a backup / contingency plan and use one of six bench spots on him? (5x5 OBP)
Brent Hershey
12:54
Yeah, this makes sense. Kicking myself for not going harder for Herrera in FAAB a few weeks ago

Is Altuve looking like a sell before the bottom falls out?
Brent Hershey
12:55
Not from here ... though you always want to get out from under those guys at the right time. Fantasy team-situation dependent (more likely to move if I was a rebuilder; more likely to just hold in a redraft or contending club)

Should Simpson be worried when Lowe is activated or has he done enough that it should be someone else who is sent down?
Brent Hershey
12:56
Never know with the Rays ... but my sense is that he stays. Defense/dynamism wins.

Hey Brent - good to have you to end the week. Random question looking at park factors page on BBHQ. Obv Coors and Cincy great for HR.  Guess I wasn't aware of how bad AZ is for HR.  Any other parks you use as a cheat code to use or avoid for those in daily lineups or situations where you gotta quickly set your lineup cause your wife is yelling at you to hurry up and put your phone down to join the family at Cracker Barrel right before lineups lock?
Brent Hershey

LOL ... what a great sentence; sounding like you gotta work on your #timing. I think the TAM MiLB stadium is proving to be super for hitters who can get it in the air to RF. That's both strong LH pull guys and oppo-power RHers. ATL is also very much a hitters park, and the Athletics' stadium here as the weather warms.

Enjoy that Country Fried Steak!

Who is the better short term OF pickup: Grisham or Stowers? (OBP league)
Brent Hershey

Grisham. Longer track record (of good EVs, etc)

Where do the 16/17/18 yr old international signees go to start their careers with their ball clubs? Does BaseballHQ have someone who follows their early development?
Brent Hershey
1:06
If it's really early (year 1 or year 2 after signing), then the DSL - Dominican Summer League is a frequent starting point. You can find stats for this at various places, but there's a TON of noise in them -- the pitching is so far behind the state-side levels. The next stop is the short-season complex leagues -- either in Florida or Arizona (depending on where the team's spring training complex is). And yes, our prospect crew follows these - but of course isn't able to get our own eyes on them before they come stateside. Much of this level of prospect info comes from one or two sources, and again the competition is such that it's tough to really evaluate. Hope that helps!

12-team, weekly H2H category, redraft league: I have an offer on the table for deGrom and Woo in a package that has me giving up Wood. I have offense to spare and need SP. Currently need to sit either Yelich or Buxton every day and almost always choose poorly. The custom draft guide for my league settings values deGrom at $7, Woo at $14 (for reference, Wheeler is the top pitcher at $38) and Wood at $26. Would I be giving up too much value in the deal? I know deGrom's value is significantly tied to innings, so he's the wildcard here, but I'm also curious if you think Wood's performance is sustainable. Related: Does using the custom draft guide like this to value in-season trades make sense or am I off base?
Brent Hershey
1:11
Yes, I think Wood is for real, though I hear your dilemma. With that eval of Wood, I'd probably seek out more certainty in a trade. deG super, yes, but you're right it's all tied to IP, and Woo has been great but he's got his own injury risk, too (above and beyond a 'regular' SP level). It's not a terrible trade, and of course you need to find a trade partner who values Wood similarly. So if this is the best you can do, I don't think you're getting fleeced or anything. But I'd push for more; even if it means a 1:1.

And yes, I think using CDG for something like this makes sense -- it's a good tool. But not the be-all, end-all. Good luck!

Hi Brent - love Bloom's Sunday FAAB files but I keep losing out on the bats he recommends. Do Reds Espinal or Hinds do anything for you?  Meidroth or Vargas?  Need to have something in a Util spot for a few weeks.

Meidroth, then Vargas instead of the REds
