Does Portland ever get a baseball team?
Meg Rowley
3:10
Yes, I think so. Could be the Rays!

Who is your current favorite player that you would not want to see play for the Mariners?
Meg Rowley
3:11
Having had the pain/pleasure, Fernando Rodney.

As a pourover drinker, it's one of those paradoxes of life that I need coffee in the morning to be functional enough to make coffee in the morning
Meg Rowley
3:12
Really all that has stopped me. That, and an acknowledgment (please don't take offense) that I already have a twee enough personality as is.

Why does everyone assume Machado and Harper are worth the opportunity cost of signing them?  Even ignoring the aforementioned cost, both have pretty large downsides.  Machado is an immature nincompoop who doesn't understand how to keep his mouth shut and Harper is inconsistent with suspect defense.  Also, why spend $300mm on one 3-5 WAR player and instead spending $300mm on 3/4 2-4 WAR players?  The influx of investment bank people (HOU, TB) has eliminated the ignorance of FO's slowly but surely.
Meg Rowley
3:15
We'll set aside that the choice at the moment really does not appear to be between spending that much on one player vs. three or four (Harper and Machado are not the only free agents left available and they are not solely responsible for holding up the rest of the market), and instead focus on the obvious value they bring, and have brought, and how they are projected to contribute.
As starting points.

Why do people buy milk before incoming severe storms?  If the power goes out for any appreciable length of time, that milk will become a liability sooner than later.
Meg Rowley
3:16
Because sometimes they're worried about being housebound but not about the power going out.

How cruel to be a Cardinals fan and have MLB decide to add the NL DH only after they get rid of Matheny.
Meg Rowley
3:17
Eh, you folks have been ok, I think.

Dont forget the phillies! (Kapler)
Meg Rowley
3:18
Yes. I have mentally associated that more with the Dodgers, but yes. It has not been what one would call an offseason of pleasing narratives.

Are we ever going to see a hyped prospect trotted out on Opening Day ever again?
Meg Rowley
3:18
Sure-- might require a change to service time rules, or an owner who just really likes the idea of a World Series, but yeah.
Doug
3:18
ARod re-signed with the Yankees though.
Meg Rowley
3:18
Also true.

Does being located in Seattle and warming up coffee in a microwave constitute a form of PacNW blasphemy?
Meg Rowley
3:19
Perhaps, but because it the Northwest, no one will ever confront me directly about it, so I think I'm safe.

Why hasn't Pedro Strop sparked a league-wide trend to wear hats to the left, a la Griffey Jr. with the backwards hat?
Meg Rowley
3:21
Hard to break through like that as a reliever, I expect. Also, I associate the reliever hat tilt more with Rodney. That might just be a Meg thing, though.

Does the looming Trout/Betts free agency in 2021 have any part in teams sitting on their hands with Harper/Machado?
Meg Rowley
3:21
As much as Harper and Machado did for last year's class.
3:22
There will always be another bright young player, another tantalizing free agent.
Ben
3:22
The crazy part that, assuming there is no Collusion (note the capital), all it would take is one owner to say "eff it" and sign Harper AND Machado and go for the ring. I would wager that for at least half the league, signing the two of them would propel them to World Series contender, if not favorite.
Meg Rowley
3:22
I think we really, really miss Mike Ilitch sometimes.

Regarding Manny Machado and "not hustling" - he bunted for a hit in the World Series! The definition of husting! It was dope.
Meg Rowley
3:22
Did indeed. Did indeed do that.

What should I get my lady friend for Valentines Day?
Meg Rowley
3:24
A really nice meal out the day after? I have never cared much about Valentine's day. I know there are folks who do, which is fine, but it has never been my thing. I'd rather go out on a night when it is less of a thrash and have normal, more mellow conversation with the gent across from me.

In anticipation of your next question, yes, I am in some ways very much an 85-year-old.

The reason we buy milk, bread, and eggs when there's a storm so we can have French toast.

The AL Central is really bugging me.  The Indians have made no effort to improve obvious weaknesses, and the Twins have made no effort to try and capitalize.  the Twins have ZERO salary commitments beyond this year.  Get Keuchel and Kimbrel and make this thing interesting!
Meg Rowley

It is useful to remember that free agents have to want to go there, but yeah, it wouldn't suck for them to be more engaged.
