Hello, sports fans. Let's talk about those Metropolitans.

Can Marte slide to CF if Nimmo isn't re-signed? If not,  what do they do?
Darragh McDonald
2:00
This is an excellent question that deserves a deep dive.
Advanced defensive metrics weren't amazed by his work in center in recent years.
2:01
Now that he's 34 and didn't play up the middle much in 2022, it would probably be a challenge to just slide over.
So, he can, but it wouldn't be ideal for the Mets.
2:02
There's not much available in free agency apart from Nimmo.
There are trade candidates but the Mets have been pretty clear about wanting to spend money and hold prospects.
Re-signing Nimmo is probably the best option, but Boras will get him paid.

Would Mets be able to pry Robbie Ray from Seattle?
Darragh McDonald
2:03
I don't think so. M's paid a bunch of money to get him just a year ago.
Ryan
2:03
What's the chance of a Corbin Burnes type acquisition?
Darragh McDonald
2:04
Makes a lot of sense, but the Mets seem to want to stick to spending while they rebuild their farm.
Brewers would probably want some mix of MLB-ready talent and prospects, similar to the Hader deal.
I think it's more likely the Mets just fix their rotation via free agency.
Buckwild Showalter

If the Mets were willing to sign Gausman alongside Scherzer last winter, why wouldn’t going after both deGrom and Rodón be just as likely?
Darragh McDonald
2:06
The Mets clearly have lots of spending capacity, probably the most in the league. But grabbing those two would probably add about 70MM to the payroll next year.
When they also need help in the outfield and an entire bullpen, they might spread their money around more.
Definitly not Darragh McDonald
2:07
Aaron Judge. Mets. It seems like a good match right? A big bat for the Mets and can move Marte to center. Therefore, Judge could haunt the Yankees in the Subway Series.
Darragh McDonald
2:07
Can't really rule out the Mets on any free agent, but I don't think the Yankees would let this happen. I'd love to be wrong about that though.
Great name, by the way.

Why is everyone saying deGrom will opt out? He has $67 million in 2 years then he could simply retire. Why wouldn’t he stay?
Darragh McDonald
2:08
deGrom himself has said it pretty consistently.
Even when he was hurt, he still said he was going to opt out.
Justin Turnover
2:09
Lots of potential turnover for the Metropolitans. Who goes, and who stays, in your opinion?
Ryan

Do you think all 3 of Nimmo, Jake and Diaz are all back? I think it can happen and it should.

What is Mets plan for signing nimmo, degrom, Díaz & bassitt.also what plan for rebuilding Mets minor league as Mets seem to behind in getting ready for majors

DeGrom's performance in the post season demonstrated a decrease in velocity and control. do you think this raises serious questions about his recovery. Do you think the Mets should invest the money and years necessary to keep him?
Darragh McDonald
2:10
Lots of questions about which free agents they look to keep, understandably.
If I was to guess, I'd say they keep Nimmo and Diaz.
2:11
deGrom, I think the stuff about him wanting out of New York might be a bit exaggerated. But it would also be a lot of money for them to spend when they have so many holes. So, I can see them adding more mid-tier guys for the rotation.
2:12
That could include Bassitt, but there are lots of options this year. We just published a list of them today.
David

Over or under 115.5 mil overall for Nimmo’s next contract?
Darragh McDonald
2:13
I think you picked the right range. I'll take the over, I guess.
2:14
Remember that Boras got Ellsbury 153.
Not a perfect comparison but that deal is almost a decade old at this point.

Anybody miss me? Cubs fans love me....

If I remember correctly, someone with the Mets specifically mentioned the PCA trade as a reason for them starting to clutch all their prospects.
Walton Dilcox

Do the Mets pick up Vogelbach's option?
