Class A
11:44
What do you think about class A I don’t think anyone will beat sto- rox or  Laurel I know all about  Clariton and Jeanettes tradition but I saw both teams play this year and they are not that good Just wondering what you thought
Mike White
11:45
I will see Sto-Rox this week. I know Laurel is good. Lot of kids back from a decent team. They have skill and size. I would agree that these are not great Clairton or Jeannette teams. But that doesn't mean one of them won't be at Heinz.

Don’t hear too much about full backs these days. Hear of any to watch?,I mean a real throw back you could put anywhere and can play. Someone who can mow em down if he is at full back? Love to watch?
Mike White
11:46
Yes high school football is somewhat like NFL and college. Fullbacks aren't used as much. I can't name you one that is tremendous.

Mike. I saw that both Gateway and Penn-Trafford will travel to Ohio to play Massillon.  Are they still a national power?  That seems like a long way to go to get a whoopin.
Mike White
11:49
No, this isn't Paul Brown's Massillon. They are not what they used to be but still good I think. Won first two games easily, one over St. Vincent-St. Mary. I think St. Vincent-St. Mary needed LeBron. I would think Penn-Trafford will have hands full next Friday at Massillon. But it wouldn't surprise me if they were competitive.

Hey Mikkke! Any senior you think may get that late offer from Pitt? Like a Gibson last year
Mike White
11:50
Hmmmm. I'll have to think. Would maybe the Allen twins at Central have a shot? Terry Totten said Pitt has at least expressed interest. But I don't know. As far as senior, I don't know of anyone else.

Which classification do do you think is deepest in WPIAL this year?  It seems that the easy answer is always 5A but 2A and 1A also seem to have a lot of good teams vying for the top.
Mike White
11:51
Definitely 5A. Without a doubt. Definitely not 1A.

P-R: Defense has been very good. Offense is a complete 360 from last year. They play PCC in a couple weeks. Key to the game?
Mike White
11:52
What do you mean offense is a complete 360? They don't have those linemen like last year but their offense was still good at times last year. QB Cole Spencer is in second year as starter. That is the biggest difference. He has gone to another level.

Opposite question - is 4A clearly the least deep?  It seems that this is basically TJ/SF/BV and a bunch mediocrity.
Mike White
11:54
Yes I would say that. 3A isn't exactly tremendous, either. But the reason for this is number of teams. Two conferences each in 4A and 3A so what do you expect? It's the effect of six classes.

What would you say to a casual fan of HS sports if they asked you "What is the one game I HAVE to see before the regular season is over?"
Mike White
11:55
West Greene vs. California.

NA looks like they cream of the north to me. But not scoring an offensive TD vs. PCC? Come on. In a couple weeks, they play SV. SV isn't an offensive juggernaut either, but can they score 21 and perhaps through the north into chaos?
Mike White
11:56
What about Pine? Right now, the cream has to be on Pine and NA.

In spite of scores, Canon Mac has hung tough with everyone this year. TJ basically had two kids that were better than CMAC. SV game was close until the 4th. Didn't see Lebo game. Above 50% chance they surprise one of the big boys?
Mike White
11:57
If you're talking beating Pine, Central or NA? No way.

Speaking of Lebo, they are ground and pound now. Palko is a great coach, but how do you have any hope of beating PCC and NA with that approach. Not taking anything away from the staff, but any thoughts on if Lebo is going to be a West A clone, or something else?
Mike White
11:58
Palko always ran the ball a lot at West A. Even when Tyler was his QB. He has done a lot of different things over the years. He was one of the first to use wildcat around here. But running the ball isn't a bad thing, you know? Especially when you don't exactly have great QBs.

I know 6A schools like Butler and Norwin haven't really been competitive in years. I know Norwin youth programs do well. Jr high has had multiple undefeated and 1 loss teams, 9th grade has done well. Why do you think varsity football is one of the worse in the wpial over the last decade. D1 players last year and this year. So many kids go on to have successful college careers from Norwin. Do you think they don't care much about football?
Mike White
12:01
I have no idea about Norwin younger teams or youth teams and that doesn't always mean a lot. Who are they playing? Most schools don't even have 9th grade any more. As far as D-1 players, hold on. There hasn't exactly been a plethora coming out of there. It will be tough to beat NA, Central, Pine for Norwin. This year and for many years.

Interest common on depth. I think 6A is more competitive in a long time with PCC, NA, PR, and SV able to win any night. We'll see about Lebo and CMAC is much improved IMO. 5 out of 9 competitive for sure.
Mike White

Agreed. It was that way last year also. And I see it being that way just about every year. Tough to crack that upper echelon. You might see a team do it here and there, but I doubt on regular basis.
12:03
Hey that's it for now. Lots and lots of questions. That's good. We'll do it again next Tuesday at 11 a.m.
