the wpial's enforcement of the transfer rule makes you scratch your head.  How are some determined eligible and given playoffs and others have to sit out he entire year for similar excuses.
Mike White
11:46
OK, this may take a while to explain. First off, yes the WPIAL rulings sometimes are head scratchers. Inconsistencies. But here's the thing. You don't know what is said in hearings or meetings of the board of directors. Board discusses all eligibility rulings in executive session. If there is a hearing for the athlete, the school or the athlete usually votes to have it closed to the media. So we have no idea what is said. (I will continue this on next thread).
11:51
Now, about some inconsistencies in rulings for playoff eligibility. First, a transfer is automatically ineligible for playoffs at new school if they transfer after sophomore year, unless they meet one of the exceptions. Under PIAA rules, one of the exceptions is "A transfer resulting from bullying, harassment or other misconduct directed at the student. Or a transfer because of violence, or a threat of violence, directed against the student." Let's take Kahlil Taylor transferring from Seton to Pine. I talked to him when he transferred. He said his dad moved into Pine district and main reason for transfer was violence in the Hill District, where he lived. His cousin was shot and killed this summer. That's a fact. He said he did not want to get involved. Well, that could fit under the "threat of violence against a student." So, do you see? Some transfers might not meet one of the exceptions. I could go on more about this, but most of the time we are never told the reasons for a transfer.

All of you sports enthusiasts we NEED officials. If you want to become an official. Please visit the PIAA.org website and look for the section BECOME AN OFFICIAL

Yes. I hope people see this.

USC enters the gauntlet the next 2 weeks. What's their record when they emerge ?
Mike White
11:52
5-1.

Am I playing this week ?
Mike White
11:52
I would doubt it.

So Sad what is happening to the Rochy Rams! A once storied program... Mergers are needed. Rochester and New Brighton already share a superintendent.
Mike White
11:55
It is unbelievable about Rochester. Had to forfeit game this week because not enough healthy players. They need to go to Shady Side doctors this week. But Beaver County Fan, I totally agree with you about mergers. Too many little schools. Would be better educationally also, I think. Problem is, one of the districts might not want the other. At the very least, how about more cooperative sponsorships in sports? Another problem is some schools don't want to do things like merge or use cooperative sponsorship for sports because they say they lose their identity. But it makes too much sometimes.

Can the Colts of Char Valley keep it going??? I’ve here talks of 7 or 8 wins this year!!
Mike White
11:56
State championship, or bust.
hmm
11:56
I do sticks for football games on Friday. I also teach and coach another sport. If I said half of the things to kids that these coaches say. I'd be fired/arrested. Do you notice this?
Mike White
11:57
Totally agree - at some schools. It bothers me, too.

should be very interesting in 6/5A during the next cycle if some of the underachieving schools decide to go independent and form a "league" of their own.
Mike White
11:57
Hmmm. I don't know. I don't know if there will be any more independents.
Mr. Wrong

I think the Norwin QB is the most underrated player in 6A. Kid can sling it and run well. NA might have their hands full on Friday with him but I think norwin defense is lacking. NA by 21. What are your thoughts on the game? Good to see norwin winning tho with how big the district is.
Mike White
11:58
You're speaking of Tristyn Tavares. Yes, very good. Agree one of the best players in 6A.
hmm
11:58
Also I guess the "no tobacco on school grounds" policy excludes football coaches
Mike White
11:58
I hear ya on that one, too.
Facilities
11:59
I can think of another school in Butler county that needs facility upgrades along the lines of Avonworth!
Mike White
11:59
And what might that one be? Mars, maybe?????
PR GUY
11:59
I've been watching PR play for years, I go to a lot of their middle school games.  I don't remember ever seeing any of those kids playing on the HS team.  I can't imagine kids that grew up in Pine or Richland are happy sitting on the sidelines.
Mike White
12:00
Yes, there are certainly new faces at Pine the past couple years. And I can tell you this. Not everyone in Pine is real happy about what's going on with the transfers.

I'm throwing a flag on you 15 yards for "Illegal use of a Dad Joke"
Mike White
12:01
Penalty declined. I throw a challenge flag that it was a good Dad joke. And hey, "do you know who was asking about you?" ............ Nobody.
12:03
Hey, how about this. Live news on the chat. I just checked my email and got an email from a Matt Manz, who is the new assistant to the executive director of the WPIAL, taking over for Ethan Woy. So maybe there will be brackets and other things upcoming on the WPIAL web site. Good to see.
4 Classes
12:04
Imagine what the championships would potentially be in a 4 class system? Pine-CC  Avonworth-Mckeesport/Quips/TJ    and so on
Mike White
12:04
Don't know if Avonworth would be in 3A.
Hold My Beer
12:04
When people say "Baldwin is bad. Worse program in the WPIAL. Maybe the State" Mt Lebanon says "Hold my Beer"
Mike White
12:05
But not bad as long as Baldwin. Remember, Mt. Lebanon won a state title only a few years ago.

Agreed. For such a good program Avonworths stadium is a dump

Mike, I told you I'd be back and have to give you credit where credit is due. You were right about Fort Cherry not padding stats. They had the starters in after the first series of the 2nd half after Sieg threw an INT. They probably could have beaten Chartiers Houston 72-0 but they didn't. I was wrong. Probably a reason you have been doing this for 30+ years.
Mike White
12:07
Wow, Big Lou. Impressed you admitted you were wrong. Nice. To be honest, I got some messages from Fort Cherry people who were a little ticked off that someone was spreading that they pad stats. Because nothing could be further from the truth. Thank you.

I was at the Mars Aliquippa game on Friday.  Wow, is 4A bad or what.

Not great.
