Not sure what the Fox chapel AD is looking for. Their out of conference teams are Allderdice, Baldwin, Knoch and East Allegheny. I’ve seen 3A teams with harder OOC schedules

I put a comment in Keith Barnes’ column yesterday stating the model for districts in the WPIAL to follow in terms of athletics is the Beaver Area School District. They are a consistent winner in most sports (maybe not championships every year, although their programs have won several, but consistent winning records in almost all sports). My premise is that historically, the administration and school board does not interfere in athletics at Beaver. I’m not saying it has never happened, but it is rare.
For example, they have had just three football coaches in the last 50-plus years, only two soccer coaches since 1985, and many of their other highly successful programs (cross country, baseball, softball, girls basketball, girls volleyball) have, or recently had, long-time coaches as well.
From your years of experience covering HS sports in the WPIAL, how much of an effect does administration and board interference have on programs, and how much has the interference grown over the years at WPIAL schools?

A lot. And it has grown in the past 25-30 years. I know school administrators at some schools who don't back their coaches enough when it comes to parents.

What is the Wpial rule about home team and jersey selection? I think in basketball home teams have to wear white or it is a technical? Was curious if that would change at all if teams agreed

This could change, but right now I'd go 1. Pine. 2. Peters. 3. USC. 4. Woody (although Woody could be 3). 5 and 6 would be Bethel Park and Penn-Trafford but not sure what order.

Why is it the WPIAL's fault that Seneca, or Canon Mac, or Lebo can't compete with NA or Central? It is on those programs to figure out how to compete. We saw what Lebo could do with Bob Palko at the helm.

South Fayette played their starters for 1 quarter against Baldwin when they have USC and Peters the next 2 weeks. Not saying they can beat either of them but shouldn’t you want to get your starters live reps before one of the 2 best teams in the WPIAL. Maybe make it a little competitive?

On the kicking topic, Mike, that's one area where the NC Hurricanes are lacking.  It can come back to bite them in the (donkey) at some point.  Coach Mozzoccio needs to scour the halls of NC high school and find someone that can consistently put the ball through the uprights.

AAA team with a tough OOC schedule = Central Valley.  Think Mark Lyons cares about overall record?  No.  He wants his young men ready for the conference schedule and the 3A playoffs.

I was at NA watching fall league basketball.  I saw teams who weren't giving any playing time to kids on the bench while playing the same 6 kids to exhaustion.  The games don't matter.  Shouldn't it be about seeing what you have with other kids and development in the fall?  Come winter the games matter.

With a shift in participation (at least in my area) from girls basketball to vollyball, are there girls getting D1 scholarships at a high rate than 10 years ago when girls basketball was king here?

Many girls still getting D-1 basketball scholarships. Volleyball has been good for a while. I do think fewer girls are playing basketball at some WPIAL schools, though. Teams in larger classes not even having JV teams. There are no ninth grade teams any more. Haven't been for years.

I respect the top 10 teams list but 2016 Steel Valley is overrated. Great team. Impressive what they did. If there were four classes that season I'm not sure if they would've won. Beaver Falls and South Fayette are probably both in 2A with them. Both teams won WPIALs. Beaver Falls won States. We'll never know but it would've been interesting.
