TJ should definitely be there. They are very good. South Fayette is good. And they definitely could be in final. But again, don't forget Belle Vernon. Honestly, it is extrmeley tough to get five 4A teams to rank every week. Well I should say it's tough to get a 5th team. 4A has only 16 teams. Not real strong. I would imagine you'd see South Fayette play Belle Vernon in semis because I see them being seeded 2 and 3.

What’s Aliquippa’s ceiling, an do you think that there’s any team in the Eastern part of the State or the WPIAL that can compete with them in 3A?

Middletown has been in 3A state final past two years -- and lost. Beaver Falls and Quaker Valley won. Those two teams didn't dominate but were clearly better team. Middletown is ranked No. 2 in our state rankings. Conwell Egan good also. But Aliquippa is clearly atop anyone else I think. In Western and Eastern Pa.

How do you see the new transfer rules affecting schools next years?

Quaker Valley beat Aliquippa in last year's WPIAL final. But Quaker Valley gave Quips somewhat of a game in regular season also. So we knew QV would be in the game. Doesn't appear to be anyone like that in west n 3A this year, although Grove City is undefeated and they have had some decent teams recently.

Mike, what are your thoughts on the Thursday night WPIAL games coming back? Seemed like a good way to spotlight schools. If not on Root, then maybe move the 22 The Point game to Thurs instead of Fri?
Mike White

Thursday night games were nice. But novelty seems to have kind of worn off. Only thing is, people that go to games on Friday nights might watch on Thursday night. But due to AT&T contract with Pirates, there was no consistency - Thursday or Friday. Some live. Some tape. Helps to have some consistency with that thing. But I don't miss the Thursday night games.

I've been hearing a lot of negatives about Gateways passing ability. If they didn't have such superior talent at RB and WR, they would have trouble. Do you think that QB is strong enough to take them through the play-offs?
Mike White

You're talking about Brandon Majocha. Well he's completing about 70 percent of his passes. I'd say that's pretty good. His numbers are good. He's not Brady Walker. No one expected him to be. Can't throw the ball downfield as well as Brady. But that offense, short passes are key. Get playmakers the ball in space and they can make a play. And judging by Majocha numbers, I can't see anything negative about him.

Do you know what conference will be taken from western half  of PIAA 5A playoffs to be in  East since an eastern school is being sent to West half.
Mike White
11:53
No one from the west is going to the east.  east is coming west. I'll try to explain. Either No. 1 team from Dist. 6, City League or District 10 will play either District 2 or District 11 champ. Winner of those will play District 12 champ (Philly Public and Catholic). The winner of that game will play WPIAL champ in state semifinals.

If you had to win one game, which WPIAL coach would you want leading the team?  Render? Palko? Other?
Mike White
11:54
Not answering that.

Any comment on how the new transfer rules will effect schools next year?
Mike White
11:56
Hard to say. I do know kids have been ruled ineligible for postseason in some cases. We'll see if it cuts down transfers. But key is whether other districts will even enforce the rule (Read: Philly and Erie). Whole thing is a mess.

A good coach might put nine in the box and take away the screens and swing passes that get RAC for 50,60, 70 yards. He's a good runner. But when they get against a Penn Hills with their QB and athletic DB's, or Manheim Central, don't you think they will be forced to throw longer routes?
Mike White
11:56
Yes at some point they might need to throw the ball down the field. Don't forget they have a running game, too, with Derrick Davis.
11:59
Hey that's about it for now. We'll meet again next Tuesday at 11.
