Which sport is harder to turn a struggling program into a playoff contender? Football or Basketball?

That's pretty easy. Football. Just because it takes 11 to play football. One really good player in hoops and another pretty good player can do wonders in hoops, especially at the smaller classes.

Washington will need 50 to beat McGuffey and I don’t think they’ll quite get there. Unless McGuffey makes turnovers/mistakes they’ll win because Washington will never stop them.

I don't think John's idea is far fetched. I think he means a coaching clinic. College Coaches do it all the time. So do business's and Industry. Maybe a retired coach like soon to be Bob Palko could give a seminar on effective Program Management.

A few weeks ago I speculated that Butler should pull out of WPIAL for a few cycles. Now AG has done that. Any rule preventing other districts from accepting those teams and them being eligible for playoffs in that district? Perhaps joining D8?

Yes, any switching of districts must be approved by PIAA. Farrell wants to come back to WPIAL. PIAA hasn't approved it. No way PIAA approves a school going to another district for one sport only, just because they can't compete.

Not to beat the A-G decision to death, but I don't like the timing. I totally understand the rationale and the need to get program on better footing, but not really fair to other schools to make this decision in middle of 2-yr cycle. Any chance the WPIAL might push back on them and say "stay for one more year or leave WPIAL for all sports?" I mean, member schools have to keep other members in mind, right??

Mike, don't sell Avonworth short this week vs. Shady Side Academy.  They were unstoppable against McGuffey until a couple of ill time turnovers took place.  I think that it will be a close game.

I'm not selling Avonworth short. I think they have a legit chance to win. I like Avonworth. But I think Shady Side has to be the favorite. I think Skyy Moore is a legit candidate for Player of the Year. Haven't seen him play a game, but love his highlights. Has offer from Tulsa for defense. I think he is underrated as far as a college recruit. More schools should look at him. Is athletic. Has good body.

No. Scott Heinauer has won at all levels. He has a program going. Just that a few other schools are a little above them in 5A.

Yes, I'll go out on another limb and say TJ is one of the top teams and will get to the championship. Please don't forget Belle Vernon, even though their starting QB is done.

Some I know think Seneca can get to Heinz Field this year.  I don't agree.  PR just handled them easily.  Your thoughts against NA if they are on their side of bracket and end up in a semi?

Well P-R won 21-7. I wouldn't say they "handled them easily." Seneca's defense has been impressive. But their offense is lacking. I can't see them beating NA or Pine unless one of those teams makes a number of turnovers in the game.

Yes Michael no one has an advantage you’re very quick today. I’m not saying people have an advantage...I am just saying it would make more sense for athletics AND academic for coaches who teach to be able to get

How do you justify most conferences getting so many teams into the playoffs that have losing records but 1A only gets 8. I get you dont want blow outs in the first round but all other conferences will definitely have blow outs.

Because WPIAL wants four games at Heinz Field. That means four classes have to have eight-team playoff fields. That's basically why.

It was mystifying. Even coach Jeff Metheny said he was mystified. I never saw a Bethel team handled like that. But that's why you can never be sure about teenagers. And sometimes things start to snowball in a game, and it's hard to stop it. I think Bethel bounces back and this week's USC game is close. Tossup game.

rumor has it the WPIAL has come down on Clairton for the events that happened last year against Summit Academy and they cannot play a home game even though will either first or second and should get a home game. Can you confirm this?

No just football. But they came to WPIAL for football because not many big schools in District 6 in biggest classification.

This is not one of Central's best teams in the past decade. That said, this isn't one of Mt. Lebanon's best teams. Lebo can definitely play with Central, but I'd go with Central by maybe one to two touchdowns.
