I have not been to RMU new place, but heard it's very nice. Not sure when WPIAL contract with Pete runs out for basketball. Although RMU is nice, here's the problem: Capacity is 4,000, right. WPIAL sometimes ran into same problem at Palumbo. 4,000 isn't enough for some doubleheaders.  WPIAL had problems at Palumbo when doubleheader had big crowds. Can't fit everyone.

Also big thing is price. What will RMU charge WPIAL to use the place. Used to always be WPIAL and PIAA games at RMU for years. But there hasn't been for a good while. If the price is good, WPIAL would consider it. If I'm RMU, here's what I'd do: Try to get some semifinal doubleheaders there or even quarterfinal doubleheaders.

Mike - when will you be appearing on the KDKA Nightly Sports Call with Pomp?
Mike White

Ahhhhh, never. I did it a few times years ago. Don't really like going somewhere and forcefully trying to disagree with people just to disagree. And at some point, I'd have to talk hockey. And believe me, that ain't happening.

Did not hear any complaints about the field conditions for the Championships. Heinz field must be in pretty good shape.

It was in very good shape. In recent years, they have re-sodded field right after WPIALs. My guess is they did that again although I'm not sure.

I have read and watched old WPIAL championship games at Three rivers stadium on YouTube and saw the goalposts were the NFL width from 1980s until 1996 what made them change the goal posts to the official High School width ?

A lot of complaints. Ace Heberling wouldn't do it when he was in charge of WPIAL. But they finally relented, and rightly so. NFL goal post cost North Hills WPIAL title in 1985. They tied Gateway, 0-0. North Hills' T.J. Osman hit upright with field goal. If it was high school goal post, it would've been good and North Hills wins.

Any preseason picks for your fab 5 in BB?
Mike White

Yeah Ethan Morton and Isiah Warfield. Not going any further.

TJ has their best team in years. I think they can beat CP if their defense limits the CP offense. CP defense has given up a lot of points so TJ should be able to put up some points.

Talked to both coaches. Thought before the season was Prep wouldn't be as good. They had lot of inexperience and they're not big. But guess what? They're still good. TJ is good, too. I still think Prep is not quite as good as past teams. This might be TJ's best chance. But BIl Cherpak told me yesterday that they thought every year was their best chance to win and they didn't. But I think this is the year they do it.

Who is more accurate at picking winners - Fumbler or Dribbler?
Mike White
11:46
I'd have to check with their mothers. They keep track of that stuff.

Well hey, that's it for now. Gotta go and start studying my Triple-A map so I know how to get to Westmoreland County. See ya.
