Hey Mike, I'm hearing through the grapevine of a possible Northgate/North Hills or Northgate/Avonworth merger.  What are your sources telling you?

No idea and have never heard anything official on that. Sure, people say that should happen, but that doesn't mean anything official is happening. Again, would North Hills or Avonworth want that? That's the big question. They certainly aren't seeking it.

Farrell has best chance. Erie Prep isn't as good as they have been but still can go far. Wilmington is good also. And State College could be a factor in 6A.

People reading this might say who are those guys? Well guys who came from Puerto Rico and were big factors for Boyle. But these days, you might be Chago at Archie's on the South Side. Archie was a Boyle guy also. But he found his calling with his "spicy ranch" wings at his place. And the "Paul Zeise grilled cheese."

How did WPIAL determine 4A sections.  Didn’t do Indiana any favors by putting them with TJ and BV.  Travel distance is awful as well.

Well there are only 16 teams in 4A. That's the problem. Only two conferences. Not a lot of choices. Yes, Indiana has a lot of travel. But they would've had to travel no matter what. Blackhawk, Beaver, New Castle, Ambridge, Montour in the other conference. That's not any better is it?

Who is responsible for determining non-conf. Opponents - WPIAL and/or the individual schools?

Schools can schedule a Week 0 game the first week (Aug. 24-25). That is up to them. They can play whoever they want. WPIAL schedules the rest of the season, even non-conference games. WPIAL insists that all those non-conference games are random. But no way.

Well originally he was going to make a decision in August. Pitt came on the scene late, offering a scholarship in June. He had said his four finalists were Pitt, WVU, Ohio State and Indiana. Then in August he said he was going to wait to make a decision because a few southern schools, including Mississippi State, were showing interest. So his recruiting is a little mysterious right now. I just talked to him a few days ago and he said nothing is new and he has no visits planned. I think he went to Pitt-Penn State game. I would say WVU has an excellent chance, but if he was going to go there, why wouldn't he just do it now? Stay tuned on this one.

Just FYI. Little bit of recruiting news this morning. Penn Hills WR-DB Dante Cephas said on Twitter that he will play at Kent State.

What possible outcome did WPIAL expect when scheduling Avella vs. Jeanette and Mapletown vs. Clairton for two seasons? How can matchups like these benefit any of these programs?  Can't figure out thought process there.
