Of course Clairton has a chance. Everyone has a chance. But if you made me pick right now, I'd make Quips 16-point favorite right now.

Not sold that Imani was that good
Mike White
11:30
I agree. I think they are pretty good, though. They have Jeannette this week. Interesting game. Imani at Clairton next week.

Hi Mike. Any idea why KO/Beaver game is being played Saturday night instead of Friday night?
Mike White
11:31
No, I really don't. Maybe someone on this fabulous chat knows.

Mike, How many teams in 5A do you think have a legit chance to win the WPIAL
Mike White
11:32
Maybe five or six. I don't think 5A is as good as last year, at least in terms of depth of quality teams. A number of decent teams though.

Any thoughts on North Hills making a WPIAL run?  Looks like they might have the stuff, but they've been know for finishing excessively average recently...
Mike White
11:34
Good to hear from you Stanley P., If North Hills beats Moon Friday, which I think they will, they are the front runner to finish third in the conference. But that still means a pretty tough quarterfinal game. But NH almost beating West A on the road said a lot.

What do you feel about kiski area?
Mike White
11:35
Not much. They are 0-4
11:36
But this is Sudden Sam's first year at Kiski. And looks like they have been in every game. They have trouble scoring, though.

How about the job Joe Rossi has done at South Fayette?  Has the potential to finish a 6th straight undefeated regular season despite the jump up in classification.  SF gets a lot of coverage for sure, definitely warranted in my opinion.
Mike White
11:39
Joe Rossi has been praised and South Fayette covered extensively. I don't know what more to say.  Funny. He almost quit years ago because he didn't feel he was winning enough. A win this week ties Braddock for second-longest regular season winning streak in WPIAL history.

SSA your #6 team in AAA?
Mike White
11:40
No.
Shady Side much improved but let's wait a little. Big game with Freeport this week.

I think our new coach is doing a great job at highlands
Mike White
11:41
Agreed. The "Dominator???" Dom Girardi.
The old coach didn't do a bad job, either - Sam Albert.

How are the transfers from WA working out
Mike White
11:42
Kenny White hurt his knee the first game. Hasn't played since and will be out few more weeks at least. He's in a brace. ... Lipford at Montour has done some good things.

Not sold on Pines D.  Lebo put up 29 with backup junior QB in his 2nd start.  Lebo only put up 24 against Canon Mac
Mike White
11:45
The defense isn't terrific. Then again let's look. Shutout a pretty decent program in Wayne Ohio. 7 points to Seneca and 6 points to Penn Hills on a returned fumble. Not too shabby, as Deuce would say. They have some playmakers on defense and Thomas Burns helps, no doubt.

Thanks on the his name

Do you think we'll ever see any real parity in 6A?  I mean, there hasn't been any really since the late 2000's (when it was 4A), but now that some real competitors are down to 5A, are we only going to see CCHS/NA/PR on the highest class titles?
Mike White
11:48
Define parity?? If you just look at the 14 teams in now, there are always going to be tomato cans. But Central has come down this year. Pine will still be good next year. Some good junior lineman. But without No. 15 at QB and some others, they will fall down a level. So you might see four or five teams comparable to each other next year. But hey, look at last year. You want parity??? Who would've ever thought Seneca would get to the finals.
11:50
Well, I think Ryan Matsook is a pretty intelligent guy, but it doesn't take a Post-Gazette sports writer to see that this was coming at Beaver Falls. I think they had two starters back from last year and their best player Malik Shepherd left for Beaver Falls. You don't normally see a state champ fall this far, this fast. But ... I will say it was still shocking they lose to Ellwood. As for Ryan, I think he might have left even if he had a decent team coming back.

You had Montour winning
Mike White
11:51
Yes I did. And your point is?
Golden Ram
11:51
So far this season,  who is your breakout players?
Mike White
11:51
Definitely Aidan Cain of Mt. Lebanon. He didn't play the past two seasons and now he has 50 catches in four games. That's unreal.

Wash High beat up on South Park pretty easily last Friday. South Park is atop the Interstate Conference in 3A. Is 3A down or does Wash High have a serious chance of dethroning Steel Valley in 2A?
Mike White
11:53
Wash High is pretty good and things will only get better this week. WPIAL just made two transfers at Wash High eligible Monday. One of them is David Walker, DB who transferred from Georgia. Already has Louisville offer. Another RB from Canon-Mac also transferred and is supposedly good.

I hear Kenny white will be back for the PCC. The PR defense is very very good this year, the Lebo WR is a stud that's why they gave up all those yards and despite that they only let up 4 TD's being on the field over 100 plays
Mike White
11:54
I don't know about Kenny White's return. I was told a couple weeks and that was last week. I agree. Pine defense is pretty good. I really like their linebackers - King and Co.

Look out for Burgettstown this year!!
Mike White
11:55
They are having a Devil of a season. 3-0 and they really don't play anybody until Week 7. Then it gets tough. Check back with me then.

To speak to the "parity" comment...other than 5A what class has parity really?  The list of dominant schools is short across the WPIAL and there has been little change for years...Clairton, Aliquippa, South Fayette, Thomas Jefferson, West Allegheny, Central Catholic...I don't know the stats but I'd venture that in the past decade those schools have probably won half the championships!
