who do you like in the TJ, Belle Vernon game. I really like TJ's offensive line.
Mike White

TJ offensive line very big - and very good. One of biggest Bill Cherpak has had. But Belle Vernon has a lot of kids back, too. Belle Vernon won matchup at Belle Vernon last year. They meet again Friday at Belle Vernon. I'll take TJ.

Competition notwithstanding, Tyler Brennan had 270 yards and 5 TD's on Friday.  Last week he had another 5 TD's, including a pick six.  On the strength of that I have North Hills as my sleeper to make some noise in 5A.  Gateway, Penn Hills, and Peters are tough mountains to climb, but if anyone can knock them off who do you have?

We shall see about North Hills. They haven't really played anyone yet. I'm taking a wait-and-see approach on them. I really like Tyler Brennan. Terrific basketball coaching in his junior high days has helped immensely. He has excelled despite once being hit in the head with a "henweigh."

What's up with Bishop Guilfoyle? They got smacked Friday
Mike White
11:43
I agree X. Can't be surprised that they lost, but they got shut out 30-0. They're obviously not as strong as they used to be.

Pine Central and NA all very similar, but central def line looks big and fast. Aren’t they young also? Should be great games

Central defensive lineman is Brian Dallas. He's a senior. Probably one of better DLinemen in WPIAL. At least supposed to be.

Hi Mike....I know you don't talk about them much....the 87 North Hills Indians football team...but do you think anyone could have beaten them at any time ever?
Mike White

I would never say never. It is a different game nowadays. But that team was tremendous. Obviously. No. 1 in country from start to finish. Seven seniors went Division I or I-AA. Gave up 20 points all year. First team defense did not allow a point. I don't care the era, that's tremendous. That team would face a lot of passing teams today. But thing is, that team had excellent DBs also. Pat Carey (now the coach) played at James Madison. Chris Cisar played DB at Penn State. I'd put them against anyone. And linebacker Eric Renkey was one of the best defensive players I ever saw on the high school level. One of most dominating, too. People forget how good he was. Shame he had injury and weight problems at Penn State. Although he was starting as a true freshman. I still remember Pat Carey describing a play where Renkey hit someone so hard in a game and Carey said, "I really thought Renkey killed the kid." .... And Renkey had the best line I ever heard from a player in the locker room.

Ranked No. 1 in country, North Hills lost to Gateway, 7-6, in 1986 title game in front of 20,000 at Three Rivers. Renkey walked to the middle of the room and said, "We came within 3 yards of winning a national championship. If I see anybody walk out of here with their heads down, I'll be inclined to fist him." ..... All heads rose in that locker room. Renkey was about 6-3, 240.

No one has mentioned Jim Render getting his 400th win yet.  I just want to give a shout out to that amazing accomplishment.

What? It was all over the place Friday and Saturday. And hey on same night, two miles away, Jeff Metheny got his 200th win at Bethel Park. Nice accomplishment. Metheny one of most underrated coaches around.

I meant that nobody had mentioned it on this chat...
