Mike what do you think about The Mars Planets so far They are having a Good Season so far
Mike White
11:48
I like Mars. Ryan Ceh having a really good year. One of most underrated players in WPIAL. A 6-5 wing who can do a lot of things. Just did a story on him last week. They made 15 3-pointers in first half of a game last week. I don't know if I've ever heard that for a HALF from a WPIAL team.

Has it suprised you that Moon has struggled a little so far. Coming into the season on paper it looked as if they would run away with 5A.
Mike White
11:50
I think they were definitely the top team coming in and still are really good. They have had some close games, but they aren't exactly playing Cupcake High. And I don't think anyone ever thought they were unbeatable. But they're still going to be good, and Elijah Guillory still is a major factor that not many teams have.

Looking at the Quips situation logically, would three transfers matter? No. How does the PIAA justify its decisions with schools like Imhotep, ST Joe's Prep, every Central Catholic where every player is a transfer. Why is the rule applied differently.Part of it is public vs private but really it is the weakness and lack of leadership of the PIAA. You can't answer for them. But every public school in PA should protest.

As I sad above, the classification formula rule might have been an attempt to placate some people. But it doesn't address what still is major concern - public vs. private/Catholic/charter schools. And no one in authority still wants to take that on. The classification formula rule was just a band-aid.

Lebo @ USC tn. A must watch. Will you be there and who you got?
Mike White
11:52
No, I will not be there. Talked to USC people today and they expect a packed house. Should be really good one. I'll take Mt. Lebanon.

high school change in fouls has kept the games flowing…quicker games …
Mike White
11:53
Definitely would agree.

Speaking of OT, North Hills put up a heck of a fight on Friday against Mars.  A very young team that I think will make waves next year.
Mike White
11:53
Maybe, but need to make waves this year.

2023 Lebo: the best Wpial basketball team ever. Thoughts?
Mike White
11:55
Oh, here comes the stupid comments from Mt. Lebanon people. I think must be students. Please go back to your class and quit posting on here. I think you need your "phonics" book for class today, don't you? Or are watching a film strip.

Who do you like tonight Lebo/USC?
Mike White
11:55
I'll take Lebo.

11:55
Are there any teams in 4A that will give LP a run for its money? Also, what are your end of year section champ predictions?
Mike White
11:56
Gotta look at Uniontown. They're pretty good. Montour not bad, either. LP definitely the No. 1 team, but no one is unbeatable.

Franklin Regional for real? Have you seen them.  I'm hearing that R&R are pretty much unstoppable...
Mike White
11:56
Have not seen them yet. I know they have a big one Friday I think against Gateway.
SingleA
11:57
It looks as though Imani University will continue to roll class A. I bet most people are excited to get them the heck out of Single A, even though it is still a joke what they do.
Mike White
11:57
Those are your thoughts. I have nothing to say.

Wait are u saying Iowa women’s bball would lose to a WPIAL 6A champ????? U are out of your mind!!!!!!!!!!!
Mike White
11:58
Nope. Ask a lot of people who have some knowledge. I have seen and heard these type of things actually played out.

Have you seen any tape on South Park's Luke Scarff? 6'8 and only a Sophomore. Looks like a good athlete too that can play all over the floor.
Mike White
11:58
I have not.

How can Imani Christian Academy say they want to play a national schedule and be part of the WPIAL? I don’t interested how that can be allowed. How do they keep getting talent if they aren’t recruiting?
Mike White
11:59
You can play whatever schedule you want as long as you play your WPIAL section games.
Mike Mo
11:59
When will the new sections for the 2 year cycle in hoops be released?
Mike White
11:59
For basketball? Not until spring.

I have watched a majority of games this year between 5a and 6a teams.  I have watched only a couple games of teams from 2a and 3a.  The difference in size, skill and gameplay is vastly different from either side of the classification list.  As a writer do you take those things into consideration when choosing stories?  A kid averaging 15 points a game in 5a or 6a is much more impressive to me than someone who is averaging 25 for a tiny school who plays weak competition in the lower classes.
Mike White
12:00
Good question. Yes and no. We know a kid scoring 28 a game in 1A might not be as good as a 5A player averaging 14. So what? A good story is a good story.

Based on previous years, It seems that girls basketball has dropped this year as far as Elite Level teams.  There are a few of them out there, but not as star studded as the past.  Your thoughts?
Mike White
12:01
Ahhhh, this year I would probably agree. Doesn't seem to be much in the way of powerhouses. That can go in cycles, though. But I wouldn't disagree.

Hi Mike - what's your call tonight for the game in Butler?  Can that Butler backcourt slow down the NA guard what's been scoring all of those points?
Mike White
12:03
I think you're talking about Joe Dopirak. He's not really a guard. Although he can step out and shoot a 3 here and there, he scores a lot of his points 15 and in. Really good around the basket and in mid range. But I wouldn't classify him as a guard. I really like him, though. I think he's about 6-4. Butler has no size. So he might have another big game. But remember, Butler has two really good guards in Littlejohn and Carney.

Any thoughts on Knoch, kinda flying under the radar at 9-2 wins at Deer Lakes, at South Fayette and Mars
Mike White
12:04
They're not under the radar. They've been ranked in our top 5 previously. I did a story on them, too, and their turnaround.
