No idea about playoffs yet. Stay tuned.

Mike, do you know any good 7th or 8th graders that we should be anticipating in the next few years?
Mike White
12:38
Easy. I coach some 8th graders but I don't publicize them. Let's wait a little.

Is a shot clocked ever used for teams that come to PA from States that use a shot clock?  Or have teams from PA had to use a shot clock when the play in out of state games where they are required to have one?  If so, what was the feedback from the coaches and teams?
Mike White
12:41
I did a story on this a couple years ago and surveyed every WPIAL coach boys and girls. 71 percent would like a shot clock. I would like one, too. But national federation has not adopted it so ... Some say cost for shot clock systems would be prohibitive for some schools and you have to have workers to work it every game. But how do some states manage to do it? I wish it were here.

Who did Char Val tick off to deserve it's Football classification ? Games vs Aliquippa, Beaver Falls, Blackhawk and New Castle ? Seems very unfair
Mike White
12:43
Why is it unfair? They had to go in some conference. I would imagine you would want them in the third conference. But that conference already has enough teams. Plus, geographically no one from that third conference would fit in the first conference where Char Valley is playing. It's the most appropriate place for Char Valley, given the teams that are in 4A.

I watched Cugini from Aquinas.  I am not taking anything away from the young man because 35 ppg is a boatload but he is a product of a run and gun system and extremely poor competition.
Mike White
12:45
Yes, coach George Yokitis used to be coach at Vincentian and likes up and down system. One year at Vincentian, his team averaged 90 in the regular season. That certainly helps Cugini. But let's give him a little credit. He scored over 40 against Imani. Over 30 against Clairton. That's still pretty impressive. Those teams have some decent athletes and players at the small school level. No one is saying Cugini is a great college prospect - and that's OK. It's OK to be really good at your own level.

Mike....interested to hear your opinion on the Butler football move.  Smart decision for their program?  What does it do to the WPIAL 6-A classification?
Mike White
12:47
No problem at all with decision. That program may have folded if they kept playing in WPIAL. Team was dressing 24 players at end of year. Maybe this move will allow them to have at least a little success and save the program. As for 6A, it doesn't do anything either way. I have come to find 6A conference play and playoffs to be kind of boring. Only 8 teams now. I will go out on a limb and say Central and North Allegheny will be pretty good again.

Have you checked out the Southmoreland girls team? 15-0, 9-0 section play.
Mike White
12:47
I have not.

Mike- I am surprised by how few wpial coaching jobs came open this year ...what you think?
Mike White

Just wait.

Is tj legit in hoops this year too? I remember they had a pretty nice team a few years back
Mike White
12:51
Yes, TJ went to semifinals a few years back. Have struggled some since then. Obviously, they are better this year. How good? Tough to say. I think Penn Hills right now is the class of 5A. After Penn Hills, you've got Mars, Shaler, Char Valley and a few more. Hard to say right now who is next in line after Penn Hills. Still watch our for Mars. Lost a few games when Michael Carmody didn't play. Big one tonight vs. Shaler.

Any suggestions for the best games of this week to watch?
Mike White
12:53
Shaler at Mars tonight is a good one. No. 2 in 5A at No. 3. Small school Springdale and Sto-Rox tonight. How good is this Fritch kid at Springdale. 6-3 point guard averaging a double double. Interesting. Friday has TJ at Char Valley and a few more. Good event at Montour Sunday with some good games. John Giammarco's PBC event. USC vs. Mars. Highlands vs. Allderdice. Uniontown vs. Ambridge and few more.

You mention not publicizing 8th graders. Bronny James has highlights from every game on espn as a  freshman.  I feel for that kid.  It is tough to live up to that kind of spotlight.  It is amazing his dad did it with all of the hype he got.
Mike White
12:54
If someone in 7th or 8th grade is a good human interest story, fine. Publicize them. 7th or 8th graders have even gotten scholarship offers. But I try not to make it a habit of publicizing 8th graders. Always find it funny how someone rates, say, the best 6th graders in the country.
Double deuce
12:55
Mike, who did Char Valley bribe to not have to be in a section with TJ, BV & McKeesport? Hilarious that anyone can think the draw they got is unfair.
Mike White
12:56
CV's conference is not unfair at all. It makes sense.

12:56
How do you think shaker matches up in 5A to win it all?  Also, knoch and highlands rematch coming up in 4A could We see these 2 play eachother again at the Pete?
Mike White
12:57
The Shaler game tonight at Mars will be interesting. Shaler is good. How good? Shaler beat Mars the first time but Carmody didn't play. Knoch is one mighty intriguing team also.
12:58
Hey everyone, that's about it for now. Good stuff again. We'll do it again next Tuesday, and hopefully it will be at regularly scheduled 11 a.m. Unless I need to see Dr. Pepper. .... Everyone be good.
